Februrary 1, Sharon Osbourne announced that Ozzfest tickets would be free this year and that they would solicit sponsors to pay the venues and the artists. I am not sure if this is a good thing. I can see it turning into a downright molestation of fans inside the venue (and possibly outside as well) by the sponsors who are trying their damnedest to get their money's worth out of the cash they dropped. And half of the attendees are young and can't afford to support the sponsoring companies: i.e. credit card companies looking to sign people up.
I went to Ozzfest last year at Alpine Valley, got to see a very energetic Ozzy on the second stage from about 20 feet away, saw System of a Down rock their asses off, and a couple of very good up-and-coming new bands. But I don't know if it will be worth the bother this year, if I can even get a ticket in the first place.

I work at a hotel about 15-20 minutes from Alpine, so we are always booked up for Valley concerts. Last year's ozzfest group surprised me... there were actually quite a few older people. I'm not sure how the ticket prices will affect the fans, but i plan on being there if at all possible. I'll probably end up working though
I mean, for zero dollars, it can't hurt! I understand it's different for people who have to make more significant travel arrangements...

i have my doubts about this.
i went a few years ago when the headliners were Slayer, Judas Priest, and Sabbath. It was pretty cool and i wouldn't mind going again, especially if it was free, but there has to be some sort of a catch.
