Not to be mean, but there's a whole lotta of lameness going on there compared to last year. Obviously some good stuff, but wow...some of those acts make me cringe.
Jazzfest is by far the greatest musical experience Ive ever had, both times I went. It beat every festival Ive ever attended by a longshot. It New Orleans thogh

I have been once and had a good time for what its worth. Stayed at the Mariott i think it was, or the hilton. I forget. Like stated above, its new orleans! Post Katrina who knows though. Not really sure what the vibe is like there now, has to be on a positive note though.
It looks like we might be doing Jazz fest (the second weekend) for my bachelor party, and I have never been. Any big time tips you guys can give me would be appreciated.
Okay, so once I got passed the "headliners", it looks pretty intriguing. A lot of lesser known gems pop up at jazzfests from what I understand. If it wasn't such a budget drainer for me financially, I'd definitely be down. But then, I could say that about any number of festivals all over the world...
I went last year, and Bruce & The Seeger Sessions Band played the most moving set I've ever seen in my life. It was also relatively cheap since I only had to pay for tickets since my entire family is from the New Orleans area. Great time.

I spent friday at Jazzfest. I have loved Jazzfest since I moved here in 2001. This will be my last as I plan to move to Florida in late June.
I absolutely had to see Van Morrison, I've loved his music for as long as I can remember. I knew he had a reputation of inconsistant performances but I was hopeful for a good show. That is what I got, a good but not great show. Van had a very good band and he played with much enthusiasm. He played sax on many songs. He played a few hits, most notably Moondance, but no Brown Eyed girl.
I also caught all of George Porter Jr. and his Runnin' Pardners. I saw partial sets from The Subdudes, T-Bone Burnett, and Dr. John.
Next week it's the Allman bros. and probably Galactic. I'll also see Gov't Mule with Dr. John as the Nighttripper in a Superfly Presents evening show.
