Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
yeah dude me and my friends are trucking it down. leaving wed morning <10am and going at -least- to savannah, ga but preferably jacksonville, fl before we crash for the night and finishing the rest of the drive off thurs. there's a couple people in each car so we can swap drivers, but yeah its gonna be looong (though not as long as the drive back will seem)
i considered flying for a while and when i was pricing out round trip tickets on expedia.com the best i could find was like $230 from newark liberty, and when i thought about gas split between a few people and the price of a hotel room the road trip seemed cheaper (and more fun naturally )

damn i have never had much intrest in langerado because of the sillyness of no reentry and seperate latenights. but now i am jealous. right now people are hitting a fest in warm weather. im freezing my balls off and working. lucky bastards!! ;D cant wait to hear stories and for tapers to start posting shows!
"SUNRISE — Authorities are vowing to beef up enforcement at a popular three-day South Florida music festival after “flagrant” drug and alcohol violations led to 216 arrests."
I saw more than a few folks getting shaken down in a big way. Plus, one night there was a helicopter with a spotlight flying around the camping area. Needless to say, that scared a few folks. While I don't support a "crackdown" in any way, some of these idiots were just asking for it. I mean, the cops were fully uniformed -- a little discretion would have went a LONG way.
damn.. and i was looking past all of the other obvious flaws to go next year. looks like i will have to scratch it back off thie list. damn i hate cops that have nothing better to do. im sure someone was commiting crimes somewhere and they are worried about people having fun. fucking nazis.
how about the friday night hour-long siren parade? course anyone at a late night thankfully missed it but it was absolute insanity, my entire campsite group basically just crawled into our tents and tried to shut it out.
i bet i know the exact group the article is talking about doing shit in front of cops, i walked passed em on many occasions and they certained seemed far from concerned about discretion.

this problem is easily solved by not camping at the fest and not being stupid if you're doing something you shouldn't in front of cops. it's a great fest, so if you want to go don't get scared away because of foolish people being careless

Honestly, to be fair, this wasn't a Wakarusa situation where the police were intrusive or overwhelming. You saw them there but most were friendly, courteous, and understood the dynamic. The bottom line is that the arrests were most likely those who chose not to use any discretion whatsoever.
Bottom line: I would not pass up on Langerado, which was a tremendous festival, just because you're concerned about the police situation.

This is the first year I've missed Langerado in a while, so I can't comment on the police situation for this year's fest, but in the past it's been a non-issue. Be cool, like others have said, exercise some discretion and you'll be fine. It's really an awesome fest.
xiphoid, john, attornaroo, aquariumdrunk, or anyone else who made it wanna give us the musical highlights? I'm very interested to know how the MMJ, and Cut Chemist sets went off. Hell, whatever you wanna talk about is good. I'm sad to have missed it, and need to see some experiences!

Cut Chemist actually had to cancel a few weeks pre-festival so he was not there.
My Morning Jacket blew the roof off the place. In my mind, they had the set of the weekend. As often as I see them live, they are always tremendous and this was no exception. I was transfixed.
Explosions of the sky also had a transcendent set, just electric and perfect.
Other highlights for me included:
1) The New Pornographers 2) Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks (Janet Weiss is an incredible addition) 3) Assembly of Dust 4) Girl Talk 5) Greyboy Allstars 6) Tea Leaf Green
my set highlights with favorite parts are as follows (probably in order but not 100% sure)
1. moe (New York City, Wind It Up > Good Trip > Plane Crash, E: Buster was U-N-R-E-A-L!!!)
2. Disco Biscuits (Little Shimmy In A Congo Line> orch theme (and matisyahu came out during the middle and did a verse from 'close my eyes') > Little Shimmy In A Congo Line , Memphis>42) ... i'll never forget looking up at the stage in my state of mind during 42 and watching everyone's hands going craaazy
3. STS9 (Be Nice, Arigato, E: Aimlessly) - the entire set was mind-blowingly good. my arms didn't stop swinging poi the entire time, and i saw a nutsload of other people getting their glow on too their late night set on thursday was incredible too
4. Matisyahu (Time Of Your Song, Ancient Lullaby, Exaltation, Chop 'em Down, King Without A Crown) i think his backup band has gotten a lot better recently, and had some jams without him singing that i really enjoyed
5. Perpetual Groove (Three Weeks) i didn't really know much about these guys at all and they were my biggest surprise of the festival, especially 'three weeks'...perfect type of music for their timeslot, i was just closing my eyes, looking out at the sun (they were at Swamp Tent, the best stage there due to shade , dancing and loving life the entire time
6. Lotus (Sunrain > Around the World > Sunrain) i'd seen these guys once before and knew they would be killer, and they definitely got the place hopping. i can't WAIT until they get more well-known and start getting late night sets...i'm keeping my fingers crossed for one at all good!
7. Toubab Krewe (?) i've loved toubab after 'roo last year and their set was wonderful at 'rado too. i can't find their setlist anywhere online and i was still going from the previous day's party favors so i can't remember but they def played Autorail which was funfunfun but no Malawi or Devil Woman
8. Girl Talk- way too short of a set, i think he's gonna be a good time at 'roo 9. Soulive - good stuff, just wish Everglades stage had some shade, hot as nuts 10. Pepper

the police presense there wasnt bad at all. most of them were in the parking/camping area. on the actual festival grounds i never saw more than 2-3 uniformed officers at an given time. most of the stuff that article talks about was most likley in the parking area, there was a bunch of locals there that had no intention of actually going into the fest.
and anyone i saw was smart enough to use the tinyest bit of discretion and the cops totally didnt see anything. and even so they didnt seem to concerned about it at all.
sat night in the parking lot i remember 5 nitrous tanks going with the police no more than 50 feet away, and there was no problems at all.
so to sum it up, it wasnt wakarusa pt.2 at all, in fact it barley seemed like there was a cop there.
on to music.
1.Trey Anastasio (fri night) awesome awesome awesome show, his playing was on point. wasnt the greatest set list ever, but he played every note like his life depended on it. i know alot of people arent fans of trey sans phish, but whatever, i had a blast.
2. Lotus first show i saw all weekend, early friday and they put it down, sound in the tent was AWESOME.
3. Disco Biscuits also an awesome time, i caught the first 30 and last 20 minutes of there set, things got a little too intense for me and i decided to go catch some MMJ.
4. MMJ first time i have seen them, i only watched about 30 minutes of them but i was really impressed, the swelling progressions and massive climaxs seemed almost magical in the cool night breeze.
5. greyboy allstars had never heard them before this show but they were a really fun band.
6. medeski martin wood, what needs to be said?
i could keep listing but i wont. worst show i saw all weekend though? Matisyahu, just like roo last year, BORING. i really gave it a chance too, i sat through the whole set and just ending up staring at the ground and yawning.
