I’m also starting a new job monday as an intensive case manager!! Super pumped, had a very shitty ABA job before and i’m vehemently anti ABA after seeing how traumatizing it is to people on the Autism Spectrum who go through it. Glad to be have a job that actually is dedicated to helping people.

That sounds like a super interesting job! Good luck with that. What does ABA mean, or what did you do?

Thank you! i’m basically gna be a social worker. i’ll be doing outreach to multiple clients and helping them to gain independence, hone in on their skills, find housing and get them to appointments so its cool to know i’ll get to make a difference in so many peoples lives! Aba therapy is an extremely harmful practice that essentially tries to mold autistic people into neurotypical passing ppl by forcing them to experience aversive stimuli and preventing them from self stimming. most autistic people who experience ABA often are diagnosed with PTSD after.

That sounds amazing! Then we're kinda doing a similar job - only in a different setting. It's what motives me aswell even though there might be a lot of dispiritedness (is that a word?).
Yeah, I had to look that up and immediately frowned. What the hell. ASS is a developmental disorder, like why would you work in on the behaviour of that person? So odd. Completely the opposite of what should help them: change the environment around them! Make people aware of tips and tricks people can do to help people when they feel confused or overwelmed. But also give people with ASS tools to help them become more independent.

Good for you! My wife was a case manager when we started dating. She’s now in an administrative role but still has to roll up her sleeves, so to speak, with the staffing shortage.
I found out about ABA after my kids were born and told two therapists, both figuratively and literally, to go fuck themselves.
Congrats on the new career and I hope you love it.
Y’all, I am needin’ some positive vibes! So I absolutely hate my current job as mentioned somewhere in the GRR thread. But my wife’s company sent out an email last week sayin’ that they’re lookin’ to hire an entry level IT person, and this is exactly what I need! Could also help me finish my associates degree by the end of the Spring semester instead of Summer/Fall! Submitted my resume this mornin’ and I can’t stop refreshin’ my email on my phone!
Update: interview tomorrow durin’ my GRR-job lunch break! And since my boss’s boss is my father-in-law I already have made sure all this is cool with him, and he’s excited fer me!
Also I don’t t like my direct boss and would love to complicate his life a little by givin’ my notice tomorrow!

YAY I finally got my kid into a preschool! He was about to start at one right as covid hit and all child-minding was shut down here except for kids of essential workers, and since things re-opened it's been a real struggle to find one that has good covid protocols AND has space.
Hopefully now he'll be a bit less feral just in time for kindergarten. And also fingers crossed for the <5 vaccines to hurry up.

What's the fun in that?
LOL it's more for his teachers than me. I don't mind the feralness so much, but I only have one and they'll have like 20ish to look after
I was offered the job and took it. Start first week of December!
I get to keep my base pay (minus the commission on sales), and start with vacation time (instead of earnin’ some 2.2 hours of vacay per full work week), and will have access to other groovy percs (I mean my lovely wife works there, so we already have access to the company beach house).
This may make Shaky Knees a real possibility!
::edit::
My boss took the news surprisingly well and mentioned he wasn’t really surprised by the news since I usually spend lunch studyin’.
A weight has been lifted! Now to pass my piss test and say hello to my ol’ friend CornCat in a few more days!

Emma Moon Andthekraken was born at 9 AM on the dot on Wednesday, Dec. 29.
It was a bit of a harrowing process - c-section after 21 hours of attempting to induce labor. But mother and daughter are doing well. Dad is freaking out and can’t stop staring at this perfect little creature he somehow had a part in making.

yaaaay! saw you'd just posted in here and was happy this would be the post
she came just in time for you to drink frequently out of your dad mug since you'll be continuously chugging coffee to stay alive these next few months lol
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Amazing and I LOVE the name. Beautiful. Over document, take in every moment (good and bad), remember time moves at its own pace and with kids it seems to be super speeded up, so enjoy it all as much as possible.

Our dog Omar is a lumpy dog. He’s had surgery once before to remove what turned out to be a Stage 1 tumor, so we try to keep a good eye on him. A while back, we noticed a weird lump on his leg. The vet thought it was a mast cell carcinoma andd said it for sure needed to come out. So we scheduled surgery, but then he had a neck problem that required him to take a course of prednisone, so we had to postpone the surgery until today. In the meantime, we had noticed that the tumor had gone down a lot, which she has said could happen with prednisone. Today, Josh took Omar into the vet for his surgery, and when she looked at him, she said the prednisone had helped so much that she didn’t think it was a good idea to even try the surgery at this point, so no surgery for Omar today! We’ll keep an eye on it and if it grows again, we’ll have to do surgery then, but big yay for not having to do it today!

So I have finally been sent .mp3s of a forgotten band that I had spoken of back in…Sept/Oct? I’ve been tryin’ to get these songs since this dude I met on the Internet in late ‘02/early’03 told me they even existed.
The band Hot Sauce Johnson was shortly signed to Outpost Records in ‘98/99, but the label was soon absorbed by Interscope and the band was lost in the transition. Their debut was produced by one of the Beastie Boys, but the name escapes me.
I always thought with their initial album they should’ve had a good start; just a solid summertime soundin’ collection. And it was a fresh sound in the late ‘90s-early ‘00s. So I’m glad to finally have these 15 mostly new tunes (a few were on MySpace and SoundCloud) after so damn long!

Trying to get shit done this year, because I'm not getting any younger. Last year I purchased beehive components(2 deeps, 2 supers and nuc), and took a beginning beekeeping class. I didn't purchase an actual "hive" however, due to school. But I just signed up for another beginners class starting in 2 weeks so that I can refresh and plan to purchase a hive this spring.
Additionally, I signed up for an "End-of-Life Doula Professional Certification" class through The University of Vermont College of Medicine. Death doulas are not licensed professionals yet, rather work privately with families and individuals to assist in the transition. However I am hoping earning the certification through a College of Medicine will give clients added confidence and some official functionality in the future.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Didn't wanna jinx it because this process has been an absolute nightmare, but closing was successful and my wife and I are now the proud owners of a condo in downtown Birmingham 😎

moving is an absolute nightmare, no surprise there, but here's the view from the dining room

that’s a pretty solid view! Birmingham has some great views imo
my buddy lives in Vestavia and I love it around there
