The Indiana law that allows businesses to discriminate against others is really frustrating for a lot of reasons. But what makes me even more sad is that the small pizza place that came out and said they wouldn't be catering any gay weddings has received some threats and complaints so they are closing for a little while.
They now have a crowdfunding campaign that has seen people donate over $240,000 and still climbing.
So these people chose to go out of their way and say they will discriminate against homosexuals, get complaints and threats, and are now raking in the money and being turned into martyrs for those who oppose gay rights.
WTF America?
It's things like this that make me wonder if I should be angry with stupid people, or feel bad. To see things that way would be absolutely horrible I imagine.

THIS INDIANA SHIT IS PISSING ME OFF SO MUCH. So glad DC govt implemented this:
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

I think it's law in 20 states, 14 more are looking at signing the same law.. and Arkansas, yay, didn't pass the law yesterday bc Walmart stepped in.
Also, we have something similar in place that is federal law. I won't mention what president signed it into law in the 90s bc, well, I love that president. So.
There's a big difference though. The federal law and other state laws specifically forbid civil discrimination. The Indiana one took it one step further. I loved hearing the governor try and back peddle. "I don't think anyone specifically introduced this bill to try and discriminate against people". Bull fucking shit, that's the EXACT reason they passed it.

nerdbyrd is correct. There are 19 states total that have an RFRA law in place, that nobody talks about. Also, the law in Arizona that got shut down, still has RFRA laws in place. Didn't we just talk about this? Or was that in my real life?
Ya Arizona had the full blown fuck the gays version passed through both legislative bodies before being vetoed by the lesser of two evils governor (seriously the new guy is even worse than Jan Brewer ever was) because she was scared the NFL would relocate the Super Bowl

True.
My governor got told by Walmart to veto it. He didn't. He asked for it be recalled and reworded to match federal law. Federal law trumps state law SO BASICALLY WE JUST WASTED TAX PAYERS MONIES and made the world think even worse of what Arkansans are. I work behind the capitol and it got crazy. People were spitting on law makers. Ugh.
Old people retire down south bc it's so warm. I'm hoping in another 10 years they will all die off and the south will get away from this whole bible belt bullshit bc younger generations tend to be open minded and less "i went to church 3 times and i hate gays" bullshit.

Ok. I'm done ranting lol
This is why marijuana laws are now getting passed. Because my age group is now the majority and voters/congress people/senators/ect and my generation is a bunch of weedheads.
As someone who is non-religious, I believe that all religions have certain basic tenets and core values that we can apply in our daily lives. For some people, religion can offer a greater sense of purpose, fulfillment, and community. However, like any other man-made construct, religion is inherently flawed and easily corrupted. In the hands of ill-intentioned people, religion has been exploited for terrible purposes, including intolerance, oppression, and even murder. It's sad that a region with an incredibly rich fusion of cultures such as the Middle East is in constant turmoil because people cannot tolerate each other's differences and seek to oppress or annihilate those who view the world differently. It's also sad that a modern industrial nation such as the United States still wrestles with discrimination and intolerance on a daily basis. Can't we all just get along? /rant.

I just can't believe that they have made that much money in donations yet we still have issues with a million other things that the money could go to.
Hate is a powerful thing.
I was thinking about this today; hyper-hypothetical scenario:
I, being a bigoted small business owner, love this new law as proposed by the Indiana legislature. Sure, I can now fully express my spiteful, ignorant views on how some one being LGBT affects me personally. But the gravy on the pizza is that I can use this law for all sorts of extra discrimination against lots of other groups of people. Are you like me? Do you want to learn how?
The law says you can refuse service to an individual based on your belief the individual is LGBT. How can you tell? How can anybody prove you don't 'know' they are LGBT. So, now I can also include people of Jewish faith/genetics, any one with a skin tone I don't like, short people (mostly because of the jockeys, but hating is fun so why limit it), and uppity females...as long as I state my belief they are LGBT
I can turn anyone of them away due to my belief that they are LGBT, with the real reason being my numerous other bigotries.
Back to real JFG108 now.
How would any shop owner determine the gayditude of a potential customer? Does the law address the minimum standards for a shop owner to correctly identify a potential victim of this bullsh!t?

Haven't heard it phrased like that before.
Well, that is what I call myself, so I figured I would just be the voice of a generation and throw that shit out there!
This is what Urban Dictionary says:
TOP DEFINITION weed head A higher level of pot head, someone who buys weed no less than a quarter ounce a time a weed head would roll blunts daily. Weed heads are generally successful pot heads staying in school and making money.

Fuck, I haven't had a blunt in YEARS. Maybe back in high school days? Keep your tobacco, give me the sweet herb! No way I could smoke j's in Europe, where they mix the tobacco and bud.
We were from Houston, the home of chopped and screwed rap. So smoking blunts was kind of mandatory listening to that. I might need to throw on some DJ Screw in a minute.

I personally don't roll blunts. I prefer a bowl (only glass). Before I was a responsible mom (who has been busted and my kid still plays naive... just last week he busted me again) I would roll those all the time. It is such a waste. Fuck that.

You should consider the switch to an all vape life style. Once you give up combustion, you'll never want to go back. I can pick up on so many more nuanced flavors now. Not to mention it's sooooo much healthier. Smoked from a chillum a while ago, and I could feel it in my throat later that day. Could tell my voice sounded a little lower too.

So I have a pax, but something is wrong with the heating element. I have sent it off since just lubing the mouth piece like they suggested didn't work (so dirty). I couldn't find vape here for awhile but just got a connection, I think. I am kinda old school, probably because I am older, but I really like fresh sticky icky. I like vaping for shows and fests and travel. I was going to start making my own, since I found a recipe and my guy is a nicotine vapor. Either way he said if I can get the liquid he can hook me up with something to smoke with.

My bad. I thought "weed head" was just another term for stoner. I see the difference now.

The part that blows my mind is that people who run businesses care more about servicing gays than they do $$$. Sure, this pizza shop gets some money for being first, but that money will dry up pretty quickly and people will move on to the newest cause celebre. That same pizza shop in a year will need to serve all customers or they will go out of business. At least I'm hopeful of that.
I'm really sorry to hear that. I've been diagnosed with a major depressive disorder and even though I don't know what you are going through right now, I know how bad it can get. What helps usually helps me is talking a walk and/or listen to binaural beats. Talking with friends can also help. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
I'll second what Suriel has suggested. Talking a long walk or engaging in any form of exercise can help counter depression. Not sure if you have taken this step, but if it's a chronic issue, I would also recommend speaking to a doctor and/or a psychologist/counselor. I struggled with some chronic but non-severe depression in grad school, and meeting with a psychologist/counselor once every few weeks was very helpful. If you're someone who is constantly hard on him/herself, overanalyzes everything, and tends to focus on the negatives, I would also recommend purchasing Don't Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson.
A little late to the party but I agree with this 100%. My psycholigists has helped me more than I ever thought someone could. Talking to other people about depression can be difficult because unless you have it, it's pretty hard to understand how someone feels. Psycholigists understand that it's not just "feeling sad" all of the time. Theres still going to be good days and bad days but there's great comfort in knowing you have someone to talk to.
Just got out of a meeting about the big downsizing coming to my department in which said that there would be enough work for us in other departments and we should not worry about being laid off. Then they end the meeting by informing us that our manager has been laid off due to the lack of work. Ugh, so much for everything y'all said right before that.

Yeah, the good Lord also tells you to ... kill the shit out of someone if they aren't Christian but I don't see many people following those rules.
I was gonna look for the "Shit My Family Says" thread, but this is more convenient.
The husband of one of my cousins earlier tonight mentioned that he'd like to kill anyone who doesn't stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance. Those who refuse to stand for religious reasons (or laziness, or being spoiled brats that don't obey) should move to Syria.
Well, that is what I call myself, so I figured I would just be the voice of a generation and throw that shit out there!

Guess I'm a weed head too. But I only smoke other people's blunts. Such a waste.

Yeah, I had a very similar meeting almost 1 year ago exactly.
"We're downsizing in your department, but you'll have jobs saved for you in other departments. Don't worry!!"
Needless to say, I don't have that job anymore. Stay on your toes!

things suck. to make a long story short, i currently have interlock on my car (yea it's terrible). and now i need to have a clean last 90 days (no fails=above .02). and now this thing decides to act like a total pain in the ass. it failed me on wed morning at .022. scrambled and got the roomie to give me a ride in. worked all day, got home, napped, decided i was gonna go out and get some food. the interlock failed me at .025. how in the hell does my BAC go up throughout the day without drinking. mind you i'm a very scheduled person, i eat the same thing for lunch everyday so there are really no changing variables that would make this out of the ordinary. got it re-calibrated yesterday afternoon, went home, napped, got up and failed it. ate dinner, tried again, fail. FUCK going back again today to see wtf they can do. the problem is going to the interlock place the guy can't really do anything besides re-calibrate it. i can write a letter to appeal my fails (which i will be doing0, but it's the government so who knows how long that will take and if they will even do anything
