Since it's near impossible to try and find someone to eat with when I am out in the field because my schedule is so fluid, I end up eating lunch alone pretty much all the time. I either take advantage of free wi-fi or eavesdrop on conversations of the people around me. At lunch the other day, there was a woman sitting at a table with what I figured out were her son and two granddaughters. She had an open Bible next to her at the table (which isn't a rare sight here). I proceeded to listen to her badmouth basically everyone in their family over the next 10-15 minutes and explain how they were all fucking up in life. She then launched into a tirade about how there were going to be a bunch of people at church on Sunday that just showed for Easter and Christmas. Apparently, those people don't understand what God really wants from them and were all falling short in their duty as Christians. I was amazed at her ability to make all those statements seemingly without an appreciation for how messed it they sounded coming out of the same person. Her son readily agreed at which point they moved the conversation to a homosexual member of their family. Apparently, he thinks that God approves of him, but he is in for a rude surprise when Judgement comes. The son replied, "The good Lord above made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve." Seriously, somebody actually used that phrase in conversation to prove a point. It was mindblowing in the saddest way possible.
But God made everyone... He made Sarah and Robert and June and Sally and Horatio and everyone else in existence.
So yea, God made Adam and Steve. They just happened to fuck each other after that.
What I don't understand is how Adam and Eve fucked then had Cain and Able, and that somehow led to the entire population that is here today. That's a whole lot of inbreeding. Did they have more than two sons? If not, then where the fuck did everyone else come from?
Yeah, the good Lord also tells you to not eat shellfish and kill the shit out of someone if they aren't Christian but I don't see many people following those rules.
Scientologist do. They have that Fair Game bullshit where they come after anyone that disagrees/leaves/threatens 'The Church.' Fucking weirdos. I just watched that doc last night, hence the sudden insight into that crazy "religion." I really need to stop watching crazy ass shit on TV.
Yeah, I don't know that it's really about protecting the faith so much as it's about protecting the Church of Scientology's profit margin. Corporations are kind of like big churches/religions anyways, so I guess you could commend Scientology for being direct about it.

I think they had like 12 children but they only talk about the two with the drama or some bullshit. The bible had so much cut from it by the church. I think there are other texts too.

Yeah, there's the Old Testament Pseudepigrapha and New Testament Apocrypha.

I realize how ignorant this is, but I just can't believe there are still some people who think this way. I try to be extremely open minded, and even though I feel we as a society have "outgrown" religion, or at least are beginning to, I accept religious people with open arms and find their points of view fascinating. But this, this stuff just pisses me off. It's not the religious aspect, it's the downright hypocrisy. If you're going to hold the rest of the world to a high moral standing, you have every right to do so, but you better make sure you're walking the walk. The concept of "judgment" is rather hypocritical in and of itself, but to actually believe a gay man will burn in hell despite the quality of his character is beyond ignorant. It's insane.

That might help explain how we ended up with states like Mississippi and Alabama.

You forgot about the flood. After many generations of inbreeding from Adam and Eve's children, God hit reset on everything and flooded the whole earth and we had to repopulate again from Noah's own family. So there has been a lot of inbreeding to make the people who live on this planet now.
That explains why a lot of people that come to this board and /r/bonnaroo during speculation season are so dumb, huh?

And don't forget that before the flood, the average life span was hundreds of years. The longest being over 900 years. So they had plenty of time to get the inbreeding just right.

As someone who is non-religious, I believe that all religions have certain basic tenets and core values that we can apply in our daily lives. For some people, religion can offer a greater sense of purpose, fulfillment, and community. However, like any other man-made construct, religion is inherently flawed and easily corrupted. In the hands of ill-intentioned people, religion has been exploited for terrible purposes, including intolerance, oppression, and even murder. It's sad that a region with an incredibly rich fusion of cultures such as the Middle East is in constant turmoil because people cannot tolerate each other's differences and seek to oppress or annihilate those who view the world differently. It's also sad that a modern industrial nation such as the United States still wrestles with discrimination and intolerance on a daily basis. Can't we all just get along? /rant.

Agreed completely.
I'd love to visit one of the Creationist "Museums" once. I bet their "science" is rock solid. Seeing Bill Maher visit one in Religulous was pretty good.
my depression has hit an all time low and I don't know what to do.
I'm really sorry to hear that. I've been diagnosed with a major depressive disorder and even though I don't know what you are going through right now, I know how bad it can get. What helps usually helps me is talking a walk and/or listen to binaural beats. Talking with friends can also help. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

We'll be visiting the site of a creationist museum next week on our drive to our hotel for Coachella, but we're not going inside. We're just going for the dinosaurs.
As I have talked about in other threads, I'm in the running for a dream internship at the moment. Had a phone interview on Tuesday, suppose to hear back Wednesday or Thursday next week about whatever the next step is.
I can't recall a time that I have went through so much anxiety. Every-time my phone buzzes for an email I immediately check it...it has went beyond the "first thing on my mind when I wake up and last thing on my mind when I go to bed" stage. It's got to the point to where I'm having a hard time concentrating on anything else. If I get it, then awesome. If I don't, tough pill to swallow but I will move on. Just need to find out.

I remember that red dinosaur from the movie about the video game tournament with Jenny Lewis and Fred Savage. Seems like it may have been in a Pee Wee Herman movie too.

I'll second what Suriel has suggested. Talking a long walk or engaging in any form of exercise can help counter depression. Not sure if you have taken this step, but if it's a chronic issue, I would also recommend speaking to a doctor and/or a psychologist/counselor. I struggled with some chronic but non-severe depression in grad school, and meeting with a psychologist/counselor once every few weeks was very helpful. If you're someone who is constantly hard on him/herself, overanalyzes everything, and tends to focus on the negatives, I would also recommend purchasing Don't Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson.

You are correct! The dinos are featured in the movie The Wizard as well as Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Not a personal Grrrr but an annoying one.
The Indiana law that allows businesses to discriminate against others is really frustrating for a lot of reasons. But what makes me even more sad is that the small pizza place that came out and said they wouldn't be catering any gay weddings has received some threats and complaints so they are closing for a little while.
They now have a crowdfunding campaign that has seen people donate over $240,000 and still climbing.
So these people chose to go out of their way and say they will discriminate against homosexuals, get complaints and threats, and are now raking in the money and being turned into martyrs for those who oppose gay rights.

WTF America?
I think it's law in 20 states, 14 more are looking at signing the same law.. and Arkansas, yay, didn't pass the law yesterday bc Walmart stepped in.
Also, we have something similar in place that is federal law. I won't mention what president signed it into law in the 90s bc, well, I love that president. So.
