I am so sick of middle aged white men who will never have to deal with a pregnancy making malarky rules regarding what a woman decides to do with her body. I am doubly sick of it because it meant I had to go picket my state senator's office in 90 degree weather during my lunch break. Here's an idea, if you don't have a vagina don't make rules about it.
there used to be this elderly couple who would march up and down a major road in our area every Sat. morning pushing a fake baby in a stroller with signs about abortion being murder, etc. this was nowhere even in the vicinity of a clinic, BTW.
having worked with so many children whose parents clearly did not want them and don't even meet their basic needs, I wish all the people who protest and legislate against abortion would instead spend their time and energy supporting these kids with money, legislation, etc. the number of foster kids alone is horrifying.

So right. and I work with families of kids with disabilities, including some horrible fatal genetic issues. The problem is that I completely agree with the pro fetus peoples right to their beliefs but like everything else they shouldn't have the right to force it upon those who believe differently.

right- I happen to love kids, and babies, but the idea that anyone can force a woman to carry a baby she's not prepared for or doesn't want is ridiculous. forcing a woman to have a baby does not make her want it, or magically provide the resources for her to properly parent it.
and I just finished a practicum in developmental-behavioral Peds. having discussions about wrongful life- which is a whole separate issue- I can't imagine having to decide with some of those pregnancies.
knowing your child would only live a few months or years, and spend that time in constant pain, I don't know how anyone handles that.
Worked an 11 hour day. Looks to be the same tomorrow. And I found out that I need an ultrasound on my thyroid Thursday & I need to go to a gastro specialist for a colonoscopy. Joy. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

bummer but the good news about the colonoscopy (prep notwithstanding) is that at least you won't remember it!
Having a Yay! Grrr! day. My father has opted to not move to Alaska with us, which is, at this point, a yay. He's lived with me since my mother's passing in 2010, and at first it was wonderful to have him around, I don't feel the need to hover over my remaining parent any more. He will be much happier without the cold temps and long winters, so I will be glad just to see him when he comes to visit.
The major Grrrrrrrrr is that the orders have been finalized and the move has been moved up from November 2014 to August 2014. We still have to be screened for the move (per the Army since they consider Alaska overseas), get our house in shape to sell, and figure out what we are doing with our oldest dog because his arthritis would cause him a great deal of pain during the winter if he makes it to that point and I feel it would be cruel to subject him to that.
Also on the Grrr list is that soon I have to start getting up at 5:30 in the morning during the week so that I can get my sleepyhead daughter up and ready for school. The middle school here starts super early, and she is going to be getting on the bus around 6:15. I figure next week is the perfect time to start getting adjusted to this schedule before school starts on the 7th, but damn...I like my sleep, even if it is only til 8 on most days.
I'm starting grad school next month, so I tried to contact my advisor several weeks ago via email and he never responded, so I made the rounds emailing people who referred me to other people who finally referred be directly back to my advisor who did finally reply after a couple more tries. A whole sentence and a half. He told me to call him during his office hours today, 9 until 1, so I've called a couple times and.. yep.. no answer. I had a few months until classes started when I first started this, and now it's less than a month.. asdflkjasfdiouxzvlnsdfoijad

Can you go to their physical office? That sh*t helps. I got my application for graduation at UT declined 3 times for 3 different reasons, so I took my transcript and my application down there and told them I had all day and needed to speak with someone about it. One of the supervisors ended up speaking with me after about 10 minutes, and she approved it without any further mess.

I can, yes. I would've done that long ago but I didn't know if this guy was even around or on vacation, teaching summer classes, or something else until recently. When I finally did get him on email I told him I would stop by his office, just let me know when would be a good time and he told me that he would prefer a phone call. Plus, it's at least a 45 minute drive from here so I don't want to drive there unless I'm sure he's going to be there.
Edit: bad wording. I meant "yes, I've been totally willing to, buuut"

That's shitty. Was this advisor assigned to you or did you pick him?

That's shizzy. Was this advisor assigned to you or did you pick him?
Random initial-advisor assignment. I'm hoping after the semester starts I'll get assigned a more permanent advisor who will be better.

I'm really, really sorry you have to wake up that early! That would be my nightmare. On the other hand, I could take your dog!

I have a bit of experience with helping students get in contact with advisors and if you cant get in contact with the guy email all the other possible advisers and see which ones respond to you. Most of them love to help someone who wants the help and couldn't care less what the first letter of your last name is. No point wasting all your time to contact the guy who obviously doesn't care about helping you
So I went to the package store near my work, and was looking for some Captain Lawrence Kolsch. They had it, but the bottles were pretty dusty and looked like they been there a year. (There were other six packs nearby in the cooler which had "born on" or "best by" dates in 2012.)
I went to another package store, a new one nearish my house. I walk in, they don't have any Captain Lawrence in the coolers. I walk towards the door, and as I'm at the front counter the girl looks up and asks if I didn't find what I was looking for.
F*ck.
And then came the social anxiety attack. And a bunch of other questions. And them wanting to put in special orders. The people in the store didn't know what Captain Lawrence is, then was asking if it was even available in Connecticut, but yet a couple minutes later had found a few of their bombers on a shelf. I end up seeing some other Kolsch right near it, from a brewpub near Hartford, and just went with that. I like that Kolsch, and I'll go find the Captain Lawrence later.
It's just like... god. damn. it. I just want to be left alone. And I don't want to wait three weeks for a six pack.

My work basically put the kibosh on me switching shifts saying that "my transferring would be detrimental to my 3rd shift team" yet they will not give me a raise until the end of the year.

Scratched my cornea this morning, vision excessively blurry in that eye now. Gonna take a couple days to heal, I wouldn't care so much if Newport Folk Fest wasn't this weekend! GRRRR!! I hope I can see alright by this weekend

It's becoming so frustrating trying to convince my close friends to go see concerts with me. For the past 3 years or so I have been going to shows pretty regularly (mostly with my GF and 1 or 2 other friends) - I have no problems with this, but I really want my close friends I grew up with to start seeing more shows with me. Pretty much the only show I've ever convinced them to go to was The Roots and they all had an amazing time, but after that I still couldn't convince them to come to more shows. They mostly only listen to hip-hop which is somewhat of a barrier.
I don't understand how they're content with just going to the same shitty bars every weekend. Concerts are such a great escape and so much fun that I want them to experience it with me, but it probably isn't worth the effort any more.

I'm in the same exact boat. It's gotten to the point where I'll just go by myself. Most of my friends have fallen victim to the bar scene as well. It's pretty sad.
Just got back from my thyroid ultrasound. As I'm leaving, the tech tells me, "Don't go home & worry too much over it, these things usually turn out to be nothing." What the Quack. I wasn't worried earlier, but now I kind of am. GRRRRRRRR
Oh, and Phillip Phillips was playing on the waiting room tv. GRRRRRRRRRRRR

There's one venue in Boston (Royale) which has been hosting a lot of good shows lately - but my girlfriend hates it. Thinks it's too boughie looking (no denying that) and the drinks are too expensive (or that). But I'm willing to put up with it, she's trying to get out of seeing Black Joe Lewis with me just because it's there.
If you've seen The Heat, that movie with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy - the club shown in that movie is the place.

Just want you to know I'm thinking of you. Yell if there is anything at all we can do.
