Ah this is going to be a fun day. Got a text last night at midnight that the person who was supposed to work today wasn't going to be to make it, so I got stuck with the all day shift. And the first person I help was a blind girl that in giving directions to the bookstore I said "the first door you'll see on the right".
I know this is the Grrr thread but this made me LOL! (Quacker wants to know if she is now in New Mexico?)
Been fighting against MGM building a casino in my city for awhile, and today was the vote to allow them to be considered or not. We lost, and less than 25% of citizens even came out to vote.
How can so few people care about the future of this place??
Found out over the weekend that a few of our friends have been betting on whether or not relationships are going "make it." My boyfriend and I are not pleased. One person bet $40 against us. He told us this with a smile and then started laughing.
I can't wait for a lot of these guys to graduate and leave. I'm sick of them putting me down because I don't have a college degree and thinking that I'm not good enough for my boyfriend because of that fact. I'm over the condescending way they speak to me. Them graduating in December is going to be the best birthday present EVER.
They get no more of my delicious baked goods ever again. Except maybe in December. Maybe I'll make a decadent "See ya never!" cake.
Not that I even need to say this, but that's quacked up! You can't call those people friends if they're doing all that. A college degree in no way influences your worthiness as a person or within a relationship. Don't make them any more cakes.
THIS ^^^. And 'Troy', if you can figure out how to get some Ted's Fish fry down to RI hot and ready to nom, Quacker and I will bow to you always.
Chin up! Karma has a way of taking care of the petty people.

It's a hot day in July with no other contests going on. Probably got little attention in the corporate media. And most people are probably still bought on the idea casinos are actually a good thing and good to the communities which host them.
Of all the lowest lows they've ever reached, Fox News, which now has an entire channel of men and women justifying the slaying of a child, has officially reached sick fuck territory
A nasty rain squall just came through and knocked over everything in my garden.
I've been rescuing my garden for 2 weeks now. I feel ya! Grrrrrr.
Just tied back up fallen tomato limbs and cut off the broken green bean plants. The rain makes everything grow like a field a fire, but then the heavy downpours and winds rip it all to smithereens!

Sounds like you may live in Georgia. It is the rainiest I have ever seen it. My tomato plants are over 6 ft tall and cannot stand up to the wind. It's my first time gardening and it was really sad it all get taken down today.
My hedgehog kept running and running and running endlessly in his wheel what seemed like the entire night last night. His wheel is a bit noisy so it made it quite difficult to fall asleep.

I hope that you at least got to enjoy some fruits for your labor? Any chance to rescue some?
In my experience with gardening, tomatoes are always the most difficult to keep secure/under control/trimmed. We built a 6 foot tall trellis this year with 8 foot metal fence posts (drove 2 feet into the ground) and heavy duty wire to grow the larger plants on. I'm still having difficulty keeping them secure. Tomato cages, unless you're growing a very small variety, don't do shit to keep a plant secure. We came back from Forecastle last year, and just about every plant had toppled over, cage and all! What a mess.
You can probably save your plants as tomatoes are tough as hell and basically just a weed. Unless they were broken close to the main stem?
I sliced through my thumb cutting an onion for dinner tonight.
Oh no! How is your thumb
It's actually not as bad as I was afraid it was going to be. I think my thumbnail got the worst of the damage, so it only really hurts if I accidentally hit it (which I have done several times because I'm clumsy like that). Now I'm just keeping the nail covered up so as to not accidentally rip it off.
“It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.” ? Lemony Snicket
so we buried my cousin on tuesday. i've never really known anyone so young to die. i feel bad but i had to take down any pictures in my house with him in them for awhile. i hope he doesn't mind.

I need to vent for a moment. I'm a planner. I like to plan things well ahead of time and know where I'm going and what I'm doing. I can handle some spontenaity but if there is something that involves me, I like to know about it so I can plan for it. But especially, I like to know if something involves me and it will require my taking off of work. PLEASE TELL ME! I realize that not everyone is a planner, but COME ON.

That sounds totally reasonable, even if someone isn't a "planner"!

You're not asking too much, especially when work is involved. EAP - So sorry for your loss

I'm not a planner at all and even I think that is unreasonable.
