I hate working retail during the holidays. Plus we don't close till 11 pm. Really not looking forward to today.
The worst is working it when you have Bone Thugs tickets for tonight. One of the greatest tragedies of my life. On the bright side though, if that's one of the greatest tragedies of my life I must be doing alright.

Reminds me of when I worked at the campus book store on Christmas break one year during college. My suggestion: get your employer to hire a really attractive twenty-year-old from Puerto Rico. Makes the time waaaaaay more enjoyable.

Not gonna hold my breath. Best Buy doesn't really draw the attractive ladies in.

Got a couple of small bonuses this year and we calculated our $ before I go out doing practically ALL of my shopping tonight. We were doing alright. Well a month ago I drove all the way home from knoxville with the E brake on. About 30 miles. The breaks went soft so I did the whole "Back up the hill with your foot on the break" to reset them. It got better but today they went out again. Dave is taking the car into the shop, I just wonder how bad it's going to hurt when we get screwed.

I used to work at a clothing store in the mall. Since I'm a Jew I always got the holiday shifts. People are lunatics I tell ya, lunatics! It's just clothing! #scarredforlife
Hey everyone. Just as everyone is currently on the mental health funding bandwagon, my wife (who just finished her post-doc year and is a few months from being a licensed psychologist) is going to lose her job she was just hired for because Bobby Jindal is cutting all funding for the clinics that would be employing her. Even though the funding came from federal grants, Jindal wants zero deficit for Louisiana at the costs of health care and education. I'm not sure how that works. Anyway, I'm a full time grad student and will not get my next student loan money until the end of January. Also, my car needs about $400 in repairs. Bottom line, we are going to be desperately in need of cash for the next month or so.
In light of all of this, I am selling as many things as I am willing to part with, including my drum set, clothing, books, dvds, vintage comics, etc..
I recently won two free Bonnaroo tickets as a part of the Bonnaroo 365 Tour. I am heavily debating on selling my two tickets to help out with the next month. I will not ask a price that is unreasonable, possibly at a price around $500 for both tickets. This is not a huge discount, I understand, but after taxes and shipping and other fees, this would be a pretty good deal for someone who would buy the tickets on the day of sale. I already feel bad for soliciting on here, and if this is a problem, I will delete this post.
I am so sorry you're going through this. We still have positions for Dr. level psychologists here but I don't know if that will last after our new Gov takes office. Of course the new budget director is the head of American's for Prosperity in NC which means we're probably as Quacked as you are within 12 months.
The question shouldn't be "How do we stop a bad guy with a gun?".
The question should be "How do we stop bad guys from getting guns?".
Yes, but also "How we do we start to lessen people's propensity for violence?" It's not a one-brush problem. Diplomacy will be required in some places. Mental illness treatment in others. And education/reacclimatization in all.

Oh definitely. Don't get me wrong. I don't think it's just as easy as "Stop bad guys getting guns". But it's certainly the better alternative (IMO) to "Good guys with guns stop bad guys with guns".

The mere fact that there has to even be a debate about tighter, stricter gun laws in our country (and we are not even talking about an all ban), speaks volumes about how deep the cultural problems, the societal dysfunction, goes. A heated national discussion would be one thing maybe but this weapons debate will have to be a protracted nasty war that goes on and has been going on for too long.
a model security plan for schools that relies on armed volunteers
Armed volunteers in schools. That's the plan y'all.
So basically we have a Sheriff that deputizes every friend who has a gun and set 'em up at the schools. Because if our schools are lacking anything it is Wild West style shoot outs.
GRRRRR. This weekend is going to be a nightmare at work. Working "overtime" all weekend (which for a part-timer is actually just 30-39 hours, JUST under paying us overtime) and we're open til midnight. Not to mention our tech support is closed for this weekend, and all our technicians (me) are out doing sales on the floor. Not for me.

First my car fails inspection and costs a grand, blah... then i Get home from pals class today after getting tb and fit tested for my oregon assignment thinking all I had left to do was pack and my recruiter calls to let me know there's "a few" competencies/tests I need to complete before I leave... 57! Wtf... Today's a I hate travel nursing kind of day. i know what my night is going to look like, then working four of the next five.
Though once I make it to Nashville to kick off the new year an start the road trip west next week, all will be forgotten.

Well if you stop insisting more violence is the way to combat violence maybe you wouldn't be told to go away. Also last week a kid brought a f-n gun to school and pointed it at another kid on the insistence of their parents -- child body armor sales have skyrocketed, and people seem to running to buy automatic weapons out of some perceived fear that ALL DER GUNS BE TAKEN. So stop - the NRA seems to still be winning this round. Arming everyone does not solve the problem - maybe we should stop promoting that injuring others is recreational and necessary (popular culture and war after war after war). Maybe we should concentrate on HEALTH and mental health services, and family planning? Or is that too damn socialist? Have some boundaries man - we are seeking a better union and humanity - not to go back to glorifying death in the town square.
It is crazy to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results each time. If the answer to gun violence is having more guns, all that does is help the NRA - which btw is a quacking lobbying group. They don't care about your second amendment rights, they care about making money for themselves and the people they represent - gun and ammo manufacturers.
It's like ALEC, but just for firearms and getting people murdered.
