I think it's refreshing to hear a band become so popular when they're not "shredding" on the guitar or virtuoso musicians. It's pretty stripped down music, but the end result is excellent. Good music can stand on it's own without over the top musicianship.
I don't know I can't even listen to this album anymore, the first time I heard it I really enjoyed it but the more I listened to it the more I have grown to dislike it. Now when it comes on shuffle on my ipod I kick myself for forgetting to take it off.
agreed.
well, i that i dont like them / think they are more a fad than talent.
that singer... ugh. UGH!
they got meh reviews from the coachella bunch this weekend and they generally like them ... underwhelming was used alot ...cr****
I dreamed the other night that my good friend who has never played an instrument in his life became a member of Vampire Weekend. I was like, WTF!? HE gets to perform at BONNAROO!? Gotta admit I was pretty jealous and pissed off, not happy for him during that dream. Then I was like, eh, VW isn't that talented anyway so I understand why he's in the group.

Agreed here. I think the music itself can stand. However, there are very few bands that have longevity without musical chops, so we'll see how things go for them. Though, on the other side, they are only 23! years old, so I think they have a little time to figure things out (though Kings of Leon are pretty similar in age and have 3 solid albums and a headlining spot at Glastonbury this year, so...)

I gotta disagree with this, I feel like its harder to become popular if ur shredding all the time. You could literally name hundreds of bands that have become popular going about things in a more minimal and stripped down way. Maybe im misunderstanding your post tho
