Wow. I'd say that a good deal of VW's fans are in the 28-35 range, which would put them smack into the Graceland timeframe. As to LBM's influence on the album, all anyone would have to do to know that is read a little bit.
Id say a good deal of their fans are more in the 17-28 range. if uv been to one of their shows u would see this. like the nyc show they did. I felt old and im only 22

Welp, I know my friends and I all dig them and we're in the 28-35.
there are a bunch of videos on pitchfork.tv today for them (including a string section), including a interview with how they formed and where their name came from
I was really digging this band but I had to stop listening to them because I was sure I would get sick of them by the time Bonnaroo rolled around. They are one of those catchy-type bands. Glad they are playing on Thursday so there won't be any conflicts but I would probably see Battles instead if they played at the same time.
Thanks for Q'ing me into this band. Picked up their CD and like it alot.
Though...
I like the CD alot....it is quite short. I hope they do play on Thursday cause I would like to see them and would like there not to be a schedule conflict. I hope they play on the same stage as MGMT that night.
does this band kinda remind anyone else of the little ones? they also played on the bonnaroo thursday last year. kind of a similar sound...at least to me.

It takes a little time to really get into this band but I must admit....they are pretty sick. No they aren't instrument virtuosos. They won't be pulling any solos like Warren Haynes or Derek Trucks. They are poppy, relaxed, feel good music for the most part. I was first interested in them when I saw their video for "A Punk". It's different and pretty cool. But the following videos are the reason that I really have become a fan of theirs. Do yourself a favor and check these out:
Oxford Comma video - A cool little video of the 4 guys playing Oxford Comma. It's my favorite song on the album right now and this is a well produced, stripped down performance. Just simple stuff, but it sounds so good.
Cool sitdown show - This is a video I found of them doing the same song as above.....but live. It's at Roosevelt Field NY I think it says....but the awesome thing here is that they're just sitting and jamming in front of all these people, really laid back.
** Kids don't stand a chance ** - This is the video that officially won me over. They filmed this in France I believe but its just a little sample of how they can take their simple sound and really do a lot with it. They play in this small alley looking area with really great acoustics. No microphones, no audience. Just them playing in a place that sounds awesome. The song rocks and the lead singers vocals rock. He's really getting his volume up. Watch till the end to get another quick little performance while htey walk the streets.
Please don't sleep on these guys or hate them because of the hype they are getting. Get to know them. I'll be seeing them for sure.
I've been listening to the album a lot lately and found something interesting. My kids 7 and 3 have been dancing to it almost as much as the Ramones....what does that mean
It means your kids have great taste in music.
Does anyone know if they will have strings up on stage with them at 'Roo? I saw their Pitchfork.tv performance had 3 string players with them but I don't know if they tour with them. If they are with them at 'Roo, we're in for a hell of a show.

^^
The strings are supposedly on tour with them. I'd imagine they'd be there.....but if not i'll still enjoy. It would rock to have them there tho. They add a subtle awesomeness to the music.
I don't know I can't even listen to this album anymore, the first time I heard it I really enjoyed it but the more I listened to it the more I have grown to dislike it. Now when it comes on shuffle on my ipod I kick myself for forgetting to take it off.

i just watched a couple of videos... the live video (not late night TV...) is pretty good
i wouldn't be seeing them at ROO though... sounds like what i listened to at 17, IMA robot, mates of state, junior junior, scissor sisters type dancepop
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

that singer... ugh. UGH!
Yeah, I've got to agree as well. I've yet to understand why people think this band is so great. And...am I the only one that has an overwhelming urge to punch everyone of these dudes in their face and watch them bleed all over their cardigan sweaters? I mean, I'm a lover not a fighter - but these guys just grate on me to no end.
Its not that I hate them and I even bet their live show will be really fun, its just this album gets tired pretty fast. actually, really fast. Their next album will really define them though because it will decide if they can hold on or if they're just gonna slip away into obscurity.

I'm still listening to this album and I'm still not tired of it... I think there are a lot of people jumping off the bandwagon now, which is, I guess part of the backlash to the backlash to the backlash... Anyway, they're music is perfect for a great Thursday evening tent dance party at the Roo, so I'll definitely be there...
I dreamed the other night that my good friend who has never played an instrument in his life became a member of Vampire Weekend. I was like, WTF!? HE gets to perform at BONNAROO!? Gotta admit I was pretty jealous and pissed off, not happy for him during that dream. Then I was like, eh, VW isn't that talented anyway so I understand why he's in the group.
