My first year, it was an instant joke amongst my crew... I mean, there've always been "brotards" all over roo... what difference will a few 10 thousand make?

It's about making high grades, contributing to the community
i'm sorry to ask, but are you being serious?
There are seriously frats like that, and thats really what they're supposed to be. The schools i've been to that is not the majority of them though, but that also has lots to do with the school.
I'm in a frat. I'm definitely not stereotypical. Most of the guys in my frat hate my taste in music (which I think most Bonnaroo fans would probably somewhat enjoy). I remember seeing a lot of "frat guys" last 'Roo chugging a helluvalot of beer and acting like idiots. I just hope those sort of folks go see Kanye West when MMJ is playing.
I decided to improve my social station I joined a fraternity organisation Tucked in my shirt Signed on the line Right away they said about to improve my mind The car I drove The books I read The food I ate The booze I drank The girls I took out My breath
Said kid, we don’t much like the way you walk And you gonna have to change the way you talk They said your dress is kind of sludge And your attitude is mighty grudge Said you got to learn to bubble You got to bubble with enthusiasm I started bubble Most important thing you can’t forget Is learning the entire greek alphabet I never did really understand That that’s gonna make me anymore a man But I learned it I can whip through that son-of-a-beta backwards in five seconds Then they hit me with some pretty bad news Concerning the payment of monthly dues I never did know where that money went I never was sure it was well spent But I paid it I’m no troublecauser and besides I figured that’s life If you want good friends it gonna cost you
Well, finally got to be party time I got a great big old jug of wine I went back to the house in about an hour [when the boy’s were] drinking whiskey sours Brandy alexanders Frozen [daquires] Reciting the greek alphabet to one another
I could see I was gonna have to do my very best To get myself out of that fraternity mess I stood right there outside the door And I chugged that wine like never before Walked inside and bubbled All over a couple of their dates
So now everything’s back to normal again But there is still lots of room for improvement my friend ’cause that fraternity stuff is too much for me Next time I’m gonna join a sorority Really get me something to bubble about
Gotta love Townes!! Tons of my friends are in frats and I really don't have any reasons to hold it against um..... I've usually had a good time at their parties. Sure there are some doucebags, but you're gonna get that with any group of people.

my 2 cents...
i'm in a sorority. i hold two positions within the organization, one being philanthropy (organizing all of our community service & volunteer events) and multiculturalism & diversity. we also have a scholarship chair in charge of maintaining and improving our academic lives, (yeah yeah academic lives is a lame phrase but oh well) and believe it or not those positions are actually much more active than our social positions. i know that no one is outright attacking greeks here but i feel like i need to defend it a little bit because its become such a big part of my life.
i think realistically that the whole reason that a lot of people are against greeks is because of the stereotype in movies and things like that, so i really dont hold anyone at fault, but i also want it to be realized that that's not the way it is.
i mean, i wear buffalo sandals, dread tams, hemp and wood jewelry and listen to the dead, phish and the allman brothers all day...i'm really not what you think of when you think of a sorority girl...
i sound preachy, i'm sorry! let's just love everyone

we definetly had a brofest next to my campsite in '07, discussing with a few campers in our site... collectively we never saw them leave their campground to actually go to the fest. HAHA that is what this thread is about man!
^that happened with our neighbors at vibes last year. One REALLY drunk guy kept yelling at everyone to boycott the music. He stayed within a 20 ft radius of his tent the ENTIRE festival. I never saw him without a beer in his hand. i saw him wrapped in a blanket nursing one as the sun came up... i couldnt believe it.
Oh come down from your pedestal Greeks. I am calling total BS on the philanthropy stuff. You joined because it's a social organization, not to help out other people. DMB is the ultimate Bro-nnaro act; Panic is second down here in the south; and neither of them are here this year.
Wow...I'm kinda surprised at some of the attitudes in this thread. I have plenty of friends in Greek organizations at multiple schools and I've never really seen this behavior from any of them. Given, there are the few douchebags out there that give everyone a bad name but damn...take a chill pill! I can't even remember the number of times that I've seen a frat/sorority name on a highway cleanup sign. When I helped with the United Way last year, there was a sorority from Ga State working there too. And another thing, I drank my bodyweight in beer last year, but still got around and saw plenty of artists play. I didn't cause 1 lick of drama. 99% of people @ Roo are adults n they're gonna do what they want to do...why waste your time judging them? Couldn't you do something more productive like have a good time?
joeyt, are you serious? You have no business telling anyone else why they joined a frat or anything else for that matter. Some do good works and help a lot of people and the others are responsible for the stereo types in this thread. Knock it off.
You know what I find the funniest about this post? Those who are being judgmental and making generalizations about frat guys are the ones who probably cry and moan at home that they are misrepresented, judged and ridiculed for not fitting in.
In high school I was what was then called "alternative." Black hair, half head shaved, biker jacket, doc martens, torn stockings... you know the drill. I despised the popular crowd, the jocks, the mall rats because they were such conformists. All they cared about was being popular and showing off the fancy things their parents bought for them. And their taste in music! *shudder*
Come college, I started with pink hair, and ended as a very involved member of a Greek sorority (who still had half her head shaved and wore doc martens). I always thought sorority girls were snooty brats who slept around while wearing the family pearls. I ended up the social chairperson, editor, personal development chairperson and my time in a sorority helped me get involved on campus, raise my GPA and keep me from dropping out. I actually think I drank LESS when Greek than my year when I wasn't.
My point is, judge not lest you be judged. I hate those guys (and gals) who seem to only drink, have fights and bully those around me. However where I live, most of them are not with college educations and not members of a Greek organization. And those I know have no desire to camp for four days in TN heat without electricity and comfy amenities... I mean, how can you confirm the beer will stay cold and where to hide the bottle of Jack Daniels?? ???
Assh0les come in all shapes and sizes, and if you had experience with more members of Greek organizations, you would see the normal cool ones far outnumber the jerks.
Not a sermon (though I did get all crazy quoting the Bible), just a thought
Karma Bamadancer. I was greek (hell I was even the president of my frat 11 years ago now) and my fraternity had 0 bro types. In fact we were much more into Phish and passing around the pipe (though I overlooked this of course as the president) then we were into the whole greek stereotyping that is going on. Just remember everyone there are all types of people in all types of groups and this is why stereotyping is ridiculous.

Also, this years lineup is waaay less bro-errific than 06'. The bro'ness of the music is not that bad this year.
That's true, even radiohead has a slight bro following. There are several bro bands on the list this year, but then you also have some straight up anti bro bands (Gogol Bordello, Pearl Jam, Mastodon). Plus, all the bros I talk to about Bonnaroo are like "Oh, yeah, I missed that set because I was wasted." So, I think we'll be safe from the bro fauna. I'm just worried about grumpy hippies because of the presence of metal and punk bands.
the ratio of jackasses in greek life is equal to the ratio of jackasses not involved in greek life. and isn't feeling superior to ANYONE like, totally anti-hippy?
yo gang, i started this thread to poo-poo on bros. not greeks. you know the kind of people i mean: riums on the ford 350s, saving seats at velvet revolver concerts, yelling really loud at the gym about how impossible rugby try-outs are, indexing phish shows in terms of "brews pounded" instead of setlists, etc.
id have to say the frat community is definitely turning more towards jam. and im sorry but most of the frat stereotypes are true as far as im concerned. i had to endure the university of alabama for a semester with all those kids and it was awful. ive never been more embarassed for a group of people in my life. however now i attend the great GA state university, and while there are still greeks here, the difference between them here and at UA is huge. Its all relative really. But if you ever want to see when keeping it brosef goes wrong, take a walk around tuscaloosa. You cant even begin to understand frat-tastic to you have been there.
