does anyone know the estimate of how many tickets have been sold so far?
some places I hear only 35,000, others I hear around 65 - 70,000..
does anyone have a definate answer, or do you have to have inside info to know?
I think this year might have the smallest attendance.. I'm thinking maybe 50,000 or so.. not that it would be a bad thing for a smaller Roo.. that just means more of a chance for good spots to see shows
I just don't see it drawing a huge crowd this year.. usually there are at least two jammy headliners, and the jam headliners are the ones that bring the festival goers.
when I say headliners I mean the first 3 artists on the list.. the big ones.
not that this line-up sucks or anything, I just don't see many Radiohead fans shelling out 200 bucks for a Roo ticket when Radiohead is setting up for a big tour after Roo anyway..

I think a lot more people are gonna shell out 200 bucks for a Roo ticket b/c that is how much it is gonna cost most people to see Radiohead in the states this year.
Unless you were lucky enough to get tickets for any of their shows (they are only playing small theatres - 3,000 seat venues - places where the Disco Biscuits play now) and tickets are going on ebay for around 200 for 1 and 400 for a pair. So if I really wanted to see Radiohead I'd just go see them at Roo.
I agree - there's a guy I work with that's basically buying a 'roo ticket just for Radiohead - it'll be interesting to see how many of the attendees don't show up until Saturday...

Im gunna bet that this is the smallest turnout as well... and i dont think Radiohead is going to influence the turnout anymore than WSP, Dave, Trey or any other headliners in the past... They're just one of the bands, there are plenty others who will draw a significant crowd... If a bunch of Radioheads dont show up till saturday i bet you wouldnt even notice... Its gunna be different this year but i really dont think Radiohead will make or break it...

Radiohead can consistently sell out 20,000 seat ampitheaters, with the status of the current tour, I have to believe there will be that many or more rh fans attending Bonnaroo that wouldn't have if they weren't headlining.
I dunno, I'd go to some great lengths to see Radiohead, but I don't know if I'd drive from Pennsylvania to Tennesee just to see them. Of course I would, and will, drive that distance to go to Bonnaroo.
Nobody really knows how many tickets have been sold.
Any numbers tossed about are just rumors and guesstimates.
I totally agree and haven't seen any kind of information that claimed to have any kind of factual basis to it.
I also could care less how many tickets are sold. If its sold out, that would be great. If its 25,000 people that would be great. Just different kinds of great.

well, i do think that lot of us 'jamkids' are really psyched to see R-Head, especially at Bonnaroo. theres gonna be some good magic in the air......Maybe they're not the only reason im shelling out 200 bucks, but i know its going to be a potentially life changing experience! Even if its the smallest roo yet, its still gonna be an awesome time if a little more unique than usual. I will say that i dont understand why petty is headlining though.....

Considering the fact that pairs of Radiohead tickets are selling for $500+ on Ebay right now, I'd say there's a good many people that will shell out $200 to see them headline a festival - plus get a chance to see 80+ other bands.
PLUS the sold-out shows aren't anywhere near TN, so it's the closest drive for tons of people anyway.
who knows, maybe itll sell out and I'm completely wrong.. I really don't care either way...small turn out or large one. both would be cool in thier own respects.

Although a really small turn out would mean no more 'Roos (but I can't see that happening in any possible way).

I think it'd have to be ridiculously small for Superfly to stop.
Like if they sold less than half, which I'm sure they've at least sold 40,000 by now.. I mean how could you not sell tickets with that line-up? Like everyone's been saying, at least 20,000 of the Roovians this year are going mainly because of Radiohead, then you've got to add about another 10,000 for Oysterhead (maybe I'm over-estimating that one, but it's thier first show since 2001, so that's got to bring in something), probably another 10,000 or so for Phil so right there you have 40,000 and that's not even concidering all the other great acts that will surly bring thier own crowds in...
like I said, I'd venture its going to be about 50 or 60,000 thousand this year, which is not bad enough for Superfly to call off future 'Roos
plus, I've read articles with Superfly saying that they don't expect to sell out every year and that a smaller turn out doesn't discourage them from holding future Bonnaroos.

Plus all of the people like myself who aren't diehard fans of any of these artists. Just going for the general lineup and a great experience. I think that's a huge chunk of the crowd.
which is what makes this festival so great, really... some people just go for the experience of Roo!
the festival has really grown into itself, in my opinion. there is a mythos around it now, an intrigue that keeps new people coming every year.. it's really quite amazing that in just 5 years, Bonnaroo has become a festival of legend, with tales of it's community reaching just about everywhere.

If you were a huge radiohead fan and had to drive 3 plus hours to see them and pay 200 bucks. Why wouldnt you just go see them at the roo if it was about/little farther the same distance away? Seems real simple to me.
Radiohead can consistently sell out 20,000 seat ampitheaters, with the status of the current tour, I have to believe there will be that many or more rh fans attending Bonnaroo that wouldn't have if they weren't headlining.
you're ignoring the fact that those shows take place in major cities where people don't have to drive hours out of the way to see them. I don't think your typical Radiohead fan approaches seeing shows like your typical jamband fan, who will travel great distances to hard to reach places over extended periods of time, to see one band. A typical Radiohead fan is going to wait for Radiohead to come to town, and then go to that show. Now I'm not saying ALL Radiohead fans are like this, but when compared to Widespread Panic Fans, or Phish fans, there is always going to be a far greater percentage of people who travelled to see the show.
I'd be absoulutely FLOORED if 1/4th of the Bonnaroo population was at Bonnaroo solely for Radiohead. IF you said that about Widespread Panic, I could believe you, but not Radiohead, simply because I don't see your typical Radiohead fan, who doesn't listen to jambands, flying or driving from great distances to Tennessee in June for a festival that is notoriously a hippie drug fest.

Careful on the generalisations of course but....the vast majority of Radiohead fans I know, in person and on-line, are very obsessive about their music and go to great lengths to see them. I do know that I've driven 5 hours and crossed country borders to see a Radiohead show.
And you said the typical fan will wait for them to come to town, well, they tour the US about once every three years and they only hit about 20 cities when they do, so it's not exactly that easy.

And don't take my 20,000 comment as meaning I think that many people will be there solely for Radiohead. Of course many other factors to convince people to go. And I don't see not liking jambands as being a deterrent, since as has been pointed out repeatedly here, that genre isn't represented as much as it usually is. And why can't Radiohead fans enjoy a hippie drug fest? I know I can't wait
Three of my friends and I are flying from Tucson, AZ for our first Bonnaroo. I doubt we'd be coming if it wasn't for Radiohead, but I'm really excited about several of the other acts.
I know I don't speak for everyone, but Bonnaroo happens to be the perfect place for me to see Radiohead. They don't generally come around these parts, and I consider myself pretty lucky that I don't even have to leave the state to see them. I'm not 100% certain, but I think the closest they've ever been to my area was either New Orleans or Atlanta, and they're not all that close.
I'm a lover of both Radiohead and jam bands, and if I didn't go this year, I'd be kicking myself in the a$$ for God knows how long.

I can't wait to be introduced to all this new music! I am familiar with quite a few of the artists on the roster, but there are sooo many I've never heard before, or at least never seen live. It should be great!!
I'm going to echo Terrapin's "some people just go for the experience of Roo!" That is me. This was the first year I ever really considered going to roo. I love a happy crowd, even in the heat and with all the different music, comedy and people watching available I just thought it would be a good time. I ended up dragging four others into this that are not going for any particular band - but we are fans of many. No matter what the crowd I'm going to have a great time.
