You guys are really reaching. How about this. Robert Plant has said Zeppelin won't tour. Superfly has said the rumors are untrue. Zeppelin won't be there.
Metallica won't be there either.
I know its fun to dream but you gotta deal with reality. At some point you realize Santa Claus isn't real. You do know Santa isn't real don't you?
Karma because you're saying not what I want to hear, but rather what it most likely true. (except the part about Santa. He's real.)
I can see how people want to read between the lines of Superfly's statement and highlight the wiggle room they left themselves, but it is still highly unlikely. Yes, "inaccurate" may mean many things like Metallica won't be there but Zep will, however what is the most reasonable interpretation? That inaccurate=false. I fully agree that it doesn't totally rule out Zeppelin at Bonnaroo, but I do think it's time to start thinking about who or what is more likely to be at Bonnaroo. That's all I'm sayin'.
OK, then. If I had to name one suspect for a headliner, it would be The Cure.
They'll be in Florida June 13th and Georgia June 15th, so they're in the neighborhood with a free date on the 14th - Bonnaroo Saturday. They're also headlining Sasquatch, from what I hear.
ive been reading through this whole thread and liking pretty much everything people have to say. i have not yet been to a roo, missed out in 04 because of personal issues. i saw the black crowes and nma at red rocks in september and it was amazing. would love to see that dynamic of luther playing with rich and chris again. kings of leon is also one that i would personally love to see and since they have played with pearl jam that would be a nice touch for things. beastie boys, g love, allison kraus, modest mouse, flaming lips, ryan bingham and the road, atmosphere, 311, and maybe some ABB, would be some great performances. whoever they have headlining does not matter to me. its an experience that i will not miss out on again.

The music may be partially what Bonnaroo is about... but the atmosphere, the people, and the experience are what i pay my $250 for.... you'll see... you can not even imagine what The Farm has in store for you

I, for one, would be thrilled with The Cure playing Bonnaroo. They definitely jam out more than people probably realize. And Robert Smith's vocals are as pure as any male vocalist out there.
I'm just not sure they fit as a headliner at Bonnaroo. I think people would be let down if they were hoping for Zeppelin and got The Cure.
It's sort of akin to Bjork or The Beastie Boys. I think these acts are all too big to headline a late night stage, but not big enough to headline the festival. Could be wrong though...
MMJ is in studio.. i wonder if this makes them a prospect? neil young is touring in europe? does this make him a prospect as he returns? he has a box set and a documentary coming out?
who else has something new coming out in the spring?
not really a rumor rather wishful thinking, David Gilmore with very special quest Roger Waters in the 1a.m. late spot on the Which Stage. Tell me that wouldnt be sweet, them or Primus is same time slot. Please let there be Primus

Not really much of a rumor, but I'd say Back Door Slam is a dead lock. They played ACL and Lollapalooza last year, tore them both up, Ski Jam thus far in 2008, and are touring the U.S. extensively. No matter who they play against, I'll be there.
For those deprived thus far, check 'em out. Guitarist could make Warren Haynes sweat.

The Beastie Boys I think are definitely big enough, but I agree about the other two. The Cure are a nostalgia act that were never THAT big (I mean Police big) to begin with, so it's not a huge draw. And Bjork may be well known, but she's too controversial (read: weird) to be a headliner.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

If Beastie Boys headline it will be the biggest dance party of the year! I dont think they should really have them as a headliner, more of a late night which stage like the flaming lips..which was over crowded. I dont see why they dont have beastie boys play on the main stage late night...That would be sawweeet
I am a noob at this board and am not really sure how to post. Anyway this site has WSP for Bonnaroo on Thursday, June 12, 2008. Don't know how reliable this is or anything but figured I would post it.
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.
