I had an idea. I want to see a Big Band type thing... but ROCKING! With horns, clarinets, big kettle drums, possibly a harp...
I don't know if something like this even exsists.
Well, Zappa plays Zappa is pretty close to a rock n roll Big Band. Check out a Zappa album called Make A Jazz Noise Here, from his 1988 touring band. Here's the lineup to give you an idea of the instrumentation he used: Frank Zappa (guitar/Synclavier/vocals), Ike Willis (rhythm guitar/vocals), Mike Keneally (stunt guitar/keyboards/vocals), Robert Martin (keyboards/Synclavier/ vocals), Ed Mann (percussion/Synclavier/vocals), Scott Thunes (bass/mini-moog), Chad Wackerman (drums/electronic percussion), Walt Fowler (trumpet/flugelhorn/Synclavier), Bruce Fowler (trombone), Paul Carman (alto/soprano sax), Albert Wing (tenor sax), Kurt McGettrick (baritone sax).
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
