OK, I'll join in on the Tool fun.
2 of my closest friends had been diehard fans for years when I met them. We all share and listen to pretty much anything we can get our hands on. They never understood why i didn't like Tool.
Its not the I don't like them, I really dig most of their material. They just never turned out to be a band I would listen to constantly. I never raved about them, so people took it as I didn't enjoy them. That said.
I'm really getting excited to see them and have been forcing myself to listen to as much as I can. One of the aforementioned friends is extremely jealous that I get to see them and I "don't even like them".
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

HaHa that is exactly what happened to me. I never really listened to Tool before I found out they were playing Roo. My one friend absolutely loves them. He gave me all their stuff and was so jealous of me going to see them and the Police, two of his favorite bands. He's never seen them live and the only chance he had he was hospitalized the day before the show. So now after all my talking of going back to Bonnaroo and all the other bands there(he's got pretty much the same taste in music as me) he ponied up and bought a ticket. Funny thing is he's gonna be missing part of his internship to go, his internship to become a cop It's gonna be his last hurrah I keep telling him.
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
I've seen tool 6 times, and they're concerts are really amazing. They focus on the music and the visualizations they produce. You will rarely see maynards face in the light (although i've always seen them indoors). The band personally is just the background of the show. Adam (guitar) looks like he's bored half the time, and Justin (bass) tends to show some emotion. The true beauty of the band is Danny (drums), you wont realize how insane his skills are until you see the gigantic drum kit he uses and the superman speeds he drums at.
For people who are fans of their older stuff, I've never heard them play anything off of opiate, and only a few songs off undertow besides sober. So more than like its gonna be the bulk of 10,000 days with a few aenima and lateralus in there.
As far as moshing goes, they dont like this. In the last round of tours they have been putting seats in the typically GA Floor seats of their concerts.
I hope they play wings for marie/10,000 days. The intensity of the song mixed with the lasers and other visualizations is something that everyone will not forget anytime soon no matter what your head is full of.

well actually even when i make a "dream" set list. i try to be pretty realistic. if they played anywhere near the 2 1/2+ hr. that bonnaroo headliners usually play they could play that set. they would play all of the singles, some fan favorites and a surprise or 2. my only real dreams in that set are opening with rosetta stoned, closing with third eye and playing pushit. if i wanted to dream some more i would replace some of the singles with jimmy, h, disposition/reflection/triad, euglogy and flood.

i hope they do the freak out "drug songs", third eye and rosetta stoned, because i wanna see some hippies minds exploding.
can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, so if so pardon me ;D
otherwise, i've been somewhat concerned that that is exactly what could end up happening, but not in a good way. while i certainly would like to hear those songs, i'm wondering what kind of effect they'll have on the crowd. because i don't know about you, but there's nothing that kills my vibe at a show faster then seeing the medical personnel or security pushing their way in and realizing that what i'm hearing is someone having a very not good time. let's face it, there's always plenty of people who are overdoing it and its amazing how contagious that kind of negative vibe can be, especially in a crowd. it won't take more then seeing like 2 or 3 to ruin the show for me, if it happens...
yeah i've been stumbling over similair words here on inforoo since the line-up leaked. i really am concerned about that. imo roo can solve this by putting a really possitive band latengiht afetr tool. maybe a sigur ros additions. it would "lift everyones spirits" in a very phychedelic way
i really don't see tool going longer than 2 hours hence the shorter setlist. they don't need to play longer, their show is perfect the way it is except for "the pot" i really hope they don't play that one

sorry, i didn't see this before. skipped that whole page somehow. i really do think seeing tool will fuck with some people. and from my point of view, i don't do any drugs at all, i would think it was amusing to see people freaking out. but i wouldn't want anyone to be harmed at all.

I've seen them alive, though it was awhile ago, and let me assure you that it was amazing. I wasn't that big of a fan, but I was blown away. The whole atmosphere from the visuals and the music and the energy of the band was just amazing. Also, I wouldn't be so quick to judge on the Tool songs themselves, Undertow, for example, is an absolutely amazing song that I wouldn't qualify as "trippy" necessarily or anything like that. Just do yourself a favor and show up.
it really is an amazing experience! i honestly don't really care what songs they play because they know what the hell they're doing and it's always perfect...i for one will be dancing my ass off in the front row ;D

www.toolband.com mentions Ticks and Leeches and Triad.. maybe they are adding those? I would love for them to atleast add Parabol/a and replace schism.

i think they have only played ticks & leeches once, so that would be cool.

Dude karma for that, I almost spit my coffee at the computer.
For all that are worried about losing your mind you will be fine. Unless you cant handle your yourself. about the metal head crowd I dont think you will have a problem. I grew up in New Hampshire and have been a die hard phish fan for a long time. I still love metal though and tool in my mind isnt as heavy as most bands and the first time I actually heard of tool was at a phish concert in Vermont.
Stinkfist Swamp Song Forty Six & 2 Schism Right In Two Opiate Wings For Marie 10,000 Days Lateralus Vicarious Ænema
this was their last setlist, before danny tore his bicep. realistically, the roo set will probably be something like this with maybe a couple extras thrown in, like disposition/reflection/triad or hopefully third eye. if they play third eye the entire crowd's head will collectively explode...
The setlist from lastnights show.. ugh Don't get me wrong, I really cannot wait to see rosetta stoned and wings 1 + 2 live, but I was hoping for more classics. The Grudge would kick ass, Eulogy, Parabol/a. They did play for a full 2 hours though, so maybe that is a good sign of things to come.

^ Did they look like they could of played for another hour or so since it is a 3 hour set? I think what they will do is do there main stage show (lights and everything), and hopefully go old school for an hour and play old tracks and rare songs for them. They would be amazing to me and I would be a happy man. Tool is my only must must see because I have never seen them and I will not miss them...period!

they played sober. do they do that often?
yea, pretty often. i think they will play a little longer than usual at bonnaroo, but probably not 3 hr.

I wasn't there =( but I really hope they can still play the old stuff, Maynard's voice is getting older. I am seeing em in greenville the week before Roo, so my first 2 Tool shows in 2 weeks, kickass.
