Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
They've never had a female headliner, have they? Or maybe a country act to stay demographically competitive with Coachella's new country festival? Willie Nelson and Friends, maybe? It's not like the festival is far from a bottomless pit of Willie's friends!!! (Maybe tap into both markets with Willie backed by the Dixie Chicks?)
Then again, there is the controversial 30 day/150 mile rule that Super Fly may or may not employee in maintaining the exclusivity of their attendees near the festival. Isn't there usually a CMT festival in Nashville the week before Roo?
If they really wanted buzz for this festival the biggest signing that they could make would probably be Guns N' Roses. Not a good fit for Roo, especially with their notorious track record for taking the stage late or canceling last minute. Even if they still had Buckethead in the band I don't see it happening. (Unless they were scheduled for a late night set to begin with!!!)
So it would be a progressive signing but I don't think that it would be the right one.
Beyond that I'm sort of on the fence as to whether I'm going to Roo or not. But anyone of the following headliners would insure my presence at Bonnaroo this year: Neil Young (or CSNY) David Bowie Bjork Prince Manu Chao
Personally, I'd love if Superfly pulled out someone like Tom Waits or (be still my heart) Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds for headliners, but I doubt either would fit the bill, legendary though they may be.
Tom Waits is unlikely as is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. But I hear Nick and the boys have a new Stooges inspired band that will probably be making the rounds soon enough. And Superfly did book a lot of acts on the Anti label last year lending at least a sliver of hope for a Tom Waits appearance...

Yep, Nick's new band is called Grinderman. Great stuff. They'd fit in pretty well at 'Roo as a late night show, in my opinion. But, yeah, I doubt either will make an appearance.
When? They were touring through last week and there's no info on their website. I'm not much of a fan but I'm still surprised!
Nothing's official yet but from what I gather, after the grammy's they're done. The sisters are apparently tired of Maines antics and want to focus on their families.

Country trio the DIXIE CHICKS are hatching a secret plan to split up after the Grammy Awards next February (07) because sisters MARTIE MAGUIRE and EMILY ROBISON want to concentrate on being great mothers. Insiders claim the siblings are "tired and wrung out" after spending the past three years defending themselves from comments singer NATALIE MAINES made onstage in London in 2003 - and they're desperate for a long-term break.

Tom Waits should headline for real. Maybe if we wish it enough it will really happen. He must be primed to do some sort of tour in '07, even if he is notorious for never touring. He did release one of the best albums/compilations of '06...
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds would OWN late night. They exist for shows like. Grinderman would probably own too.
How about BB King? He would be incredible in whatever capacity, I would hope a headliner. He loves to talk, give him three and a half hours and he'll have all the room to run his mouth he could ever want. I think I've mentioned it before but listening to him this morning brought the fire back. And if he wouldn't want to do the time on his own, how about BB King/Eric Clapton? I'd be in heaven.

I'd be napping but I'd be happy for all of you blues lovers in the Rooniverse. I'm not much of a fan and I've got issues with Clapton but this festival is just bigger than my tastes so more power to you if they sign him/them.

The article goes on to cite the National Enquirer as a source so take it for what it's worth.
I doubt that they would be a Roo attraction and they may indeed break up but I disagree on principle with any web article that uses a tabloid as its sole named source.
On another note, while I like Tom Waits and Nick Cave and would like to see either artist at Bonnaroo, neither one is likely to be a headliner. They are both better served in co-headliner role. They are both likely to give popular sets but unlikely to inspire tens of thousands of people to travel hundreds of miles and I think that that goes into Superfly's thinking.

I know a lot of people have talked about Tool and Pearl Jam being very likely headliners for '07. I'm going to have to agree with Pearl Jam being very likely. That their name was thrown around so much last year, and given their love for 3+ sets at their live shows and their love for live music in general, I feel like Pearl Jam is a HIGHLY likely headliner for '07.
That being said, I don't see Tool ever performing at Bonnaroo. On their recent tours they have played about 1.5 hour sets and probably would not roll out a 2.5-3 hour set for 'Roo. Plus they just don't seem to feel like a Bonnaroo headliner to me. I dunno, I couldn't see them there.
Yeah, I know it's a big show IF SCI are there (they have to be there, don't they?) but I don't think they'll headline unless it's their last performance. They would make for a sick late night show though, give them a 12:00 to 4:00 and I think every Cheese fan there would be happy.
The Allman Brothers have played twice before not headlining so I don't really see how they'd jump in prominence. I'd happily be wrong, these guys can take as much time as they want to play, but I don't see it.
Good point on Pearl Jam though. I've never had a chance to see them live, but looking at their setlists, they play long shows that I think would fit fine into a headlining length set. Like this one from their last tour in Sep 2006:
Set 1 Wasted Reprise, Life Wasted, Animal, Corduroy, Severed Hand, World Wide Suicide, Even Flow, I Am Mine, Gods' Dice, Given To Fly, Do The Evolution, Wishlist, Lukin, Not For You(Modern Girl), Comatose, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Jeremy, Why Go
Encore 1 Last Kiss, Inside Job, Black, Crazy Mary, Alive
Encore 2 Big Wave, Better Man, Leash, Baba O'Riley, Yellow Ledbetter
I don't think Tool will end up at Roo, at least not as headliners. I just don't think that after headlining Coachella, Bonnaroo would want them headlining, at their place the next year, it would be sort of like admitting they are second fiddle (Radiohead was an exception and a few years had passed).
As for my three headliners I would say: Pearl Jam Some form of Dave Matthews (whether DMB or Dave and Friends) Not real sure on the third, perhaps SCI or Widespread
Somehow I get the feeling that Superfly and Ashley Capps are holding something back. I get the preminition that they're going to suprise us all with something bigger than we could have ever imagined. That being said, I have no idea what that could be.
Also, with the roo officially being dubbed a four day festival, could it be possible that they may be sneaking in a fourth headliner, and allowing everyone in on Thursday, making the VIP night on Wednesday? I know that AC Entertainment said they're constantly looking for a way to bump it up a notch. I'd say that's a definite way to boost the hype.
i kind of like the selection of smaller but still high caliber acts on thursday as opposed to one headliner. but i would be very happy if they could have all of that done by midnight and give us a big name thursday latenighter. although im not sure if they would do that with it being a work night for the community around roo. id like a sunday latenight too but that presents the same problem,
Which poses the question "Who really gives a flying f**k?" As much revenue that Bonnaroo produces for Manchester, Tennessee they should be able to handle one loud work-night of music every 365 days.
Samjaco, I like your thinking that they're holding something huge back. Things have been very quiet, the Radiohead rumors were definitely sneaking around by this point last year. It'd be impossible for them to do something outside of our imaginations, given all of the Pink Floyd and Phish talk on here, but a Rolling Stones (not that big of a fan, but they are HUGE) level headliner would be quite a capture. I would like to think that they are selling tickets before the lineup to try to give the true fans a chance to get tix before some huge surprise or something, but that's very wishful thinking. We just gotta hold tight.
Someone mentioned a "mini-headliner" for thursday night, and I think this is a practical idea. I don't know how it'd go over with the people as a whole, but I think it'd be a deserved chance for MMJ if they were given this role. They're pretty much THE Bonnaroo band, and just keep getting bigger and better every year. A storming thursday night headlining show would be pretty much the most badass way to start the festival possible (presuming it starts late enough to give everyone a chance to get in)

The only thing I can think of for this (beyond the Pink Floyd thing, which I don't see happening outside of Europe....) is Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Maybe that's just me being hopeful for my dream scenario...but damn, it could make some sense right?

Ah man, I have mixed feelings on this. A lot of people don't show up to 'Roo until Friday, and missing MMJ, the band that arguably STOLE the entire festival with their incredible set last year would be a bummer. Though it would be awesome to have a Thursday headliner as good as MMJ. I like the idea that has been mentioned in the past about giving MMJ a few years and letting them headline Friday night or something. They are definitely deserving, they just need the popularity to back them now.
i would have to say umphreys is the bonnaroo band and not mmj. of course im not really a fan of mmj and umphreys rocks out with their thingys out at every show. that is just my opinion though. i know mmj is huge. but i think umph would better fill a proposed 'mini-headliner" spot

HM. I would add a few acts that are in SOME realm of possibility.
Rolling Stones Prince Paul McCartney Elton John (though ruled out) U2 Michael Jackson (itd be huge!)

Bob Seger i dont think could headline, i like him in a pre-headliner spot though, id definatly check him out. I do think pearl jam is likely, iv been watchin some of their live clips, and they can really jam. Also, if it really were SCI's last show, and you make it a Keller Williams Incident, i think you could give that a headliner spot. So my dream, and pretty possible idea is.
1st - Clapton or Cream (I think this will be the big suprise this year) 2nd- Pearl Jam 3rd- Keller Williams Incident
U2 may also be a big suprise, and although i'm not a huge fan, it sounds like they put on very good live shows.

Just to add fuel to the Pearl Jam rumor fire that is already ragin':
"One thing is certain, though -- my inbox keeps filling up with the hopes and dreams of other fans that think one major headliner will surely turn heads when they're announced as one of the big dogs on the bill: Pearl Jam. I've got it on fairly good authority that they're going to be there, but for now, call it what it needs to be called -- a rumor."
Yep. I think this article is in the main section, but I pretty much misplaced it and shoulda put the thread here.
About CSNY - I think I'd much prefer Neil Young solo. I don't know what their live shows are like, but I don't like the CSNY catalog nears as much as Messers Young on his own. Does anyone know what a CSNY live show goes like? All I heard is there was a lot of soapboxing on the last tour.
