I'd be quite pleased with that. I think that CCR anywhere is a headliner. They have had too many great songs and John Fogerty on his own is close to top billing. I mean, he just shared a tour bill with Willie. A reunion would be huge. Springsteen would also be a huge performer, I think even though night one was the rock legend, I think that he and PJ could be switched if they were both playing, leaving PJ Friday and Bruce Saturday headlining the festival as a whole.
I'm curious to see who gets brought in to "headline" the second biggest stage each day. While it's not as big as the headliner or often the pre-headliner, it's still usually a big act to try to draw some of the insanity away from the mainstage. 06 it was DCFC, Cypress Hill, and Bonnie Raitt. Someone mentioned Arcade Fire for this spot and I thought that would be great. I'm kinda low on ideas this early so I can't really think of some others.
What about the Arctic Monkeys? I don't know how they go over with the Roo crowd as a whole, but they have been said to give electric live performances and are big without being headlining big. I think they would make for an ideal last act on the Which stage.

i don't know if they are even big enough to headline Which Stage. They are more of flavor of the week band. But who knows, if their 2nd album is good, maybe 2008. i just don't see Roo signing a band like the Arctic Monkeys until they have proven themselves a little more.
I gotgot about the Artic Monkeys. The did win that british award over Thom Yorke if that counts for anything. I can see them playing on the 2nd stage, but not closing it.
I guess this another example of the vast difference between music in America and music in England. In England they sold some sort of record amount of albums in the first week, more than any other debut in history I believe. I think they're much better than DCFC, and both played SNL last year (if that's worth anything) so I would think they'd be a fairly big draw. Maybe not a stage-closer, but I would think a big signing none-the-less.

Anywhere else they may be big, but i dont think the artic monkeys would be huge news for bonnaroo. Lets not forget, beck didnt even get to headline this fest, so big bangs can look not so popular in comparison to their company. I've been listening to the deepest end lately, and I think if Gov't Mule could get this back together, it'd be big enough to headline, maybe add a few other sit ins to the show. I'm sure this thing was a real pain to pull off though.
The Deep End thing seems to be over. The pinnacle of that was The Deepest End show in New Orleans where all the all stars came out. They made a DVD. I think the era is done. But if they were to ever resurrect that, Bonnaroo would be the perfect place.
id like to see michael franti and spearhead headline. i dont know if they are quite big enough. but id enjoy it over seeing the same headliners recycled each year. there just arent many bands out their big enough to headline roo. i guess they have to recycle the bands that are big enough. but im hoping for at least one fresh headliner. we got 2 last year.

I am seeing a lot of smaller bands listed as headliners. Bands with less them 3 albums would probably never be asked to headline. You have to consider the time frame that needs to be filled. Artic Monkeys could never headline. Out of the 80,000 people less then half have probably heard that album.
White Stripes could put on a WOW factor 3 hour show but to many people are into hating them or loving them.
Shins just arent good enough to headline, no offense, love the band but this stage is not for a indie rock band who can just bust out thier 2 dozen songs. They need to have a much bigger sound. They need to give the festival something more then just a set.
I could see these people headlining, maybe? lol, i dont knwo, im stretching it.
CSNY Dylan Outkast (I would not be happy with a hip hop headliner) Rolling Stones
A lot of small bands are being mentioned that could never headline but you definitely don't need a lot of albums to headline. Dave and Friends only had one album of material. Different situation though I guess. An indie band would need a few albums worth of material where Dave and Friends pulled from the DMB and Phish catalog. Not to mention the more jam inclined bands tend to throw in more covers and explore the material more.

I know this might be crazy, but what about say AC/DC for the classic rock headliner???? Too cheesy???? Too metal????? Too old????? I thinki I would get a kick out of seeing those guys and jamming out to some Back in Black.
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
AC/DC is cool, but they aren't really relevant across the board in today's musical world. On the classic rock stations they're still big, but as far as I know they aren't putting out new material, so it'd just be the same songs as 20 years ago.
Outkast won't headline because one of the two, I think Andre, isn't touring anymore. Their draw is thus reduced greatly. Dylan hasn't had a big jump since he last played so headlining wouldn't really make sense, unless it was a one off with some special guest (which would be AWESOME) he won't be top. CSNY could probably headline, I'd probably enjoy that. As to the Rolling Stones, I'm almost positive they're too big. They can play a big field in Austin and charge $85 a ticket, which all goes to them. Bonnaroo would have to give them 25% of everyone's ticket just to get them to play.
Tool and Pearl Jam look like better, more realistic shots to me.
However, can you imagine the uproar that Prince playing would cause? To think that people were mad about Radiohead and Tom Petty. However, I think that Prince jams more than either of those two, and has the guitar skills to light up anyone anywhere. I just never see it happening.
When it comes to huge solo(ish) acts there are very few that could play that haven't before. I think Elton John would be wonderful but I don't see it happening. Springsteen would be an impressive sign on.
Hey, what about Paul McCartney? He's supposed to be touring in late 2007 to make up for divorce losses, and the guy is a total legend. If he played I would have a huge sh!t eating grin on my face.
If anyone complains about prince they should be shot in the face. The man is hands down headliner material. If James Brown can headline, prince can headline.
Neil Young is a rock legend and an unbelievable musician live! He'd rock the shit out of alot of people at Bonnaroo, a Canadian Legend! My Morning Jacket is going to be fuckin' unreal again, gurantee, after the Amazing Petty show last year, MMJ put on a rock fest throughout the night! Pearl Jam, Chili Peppers, Allman Brothers, and there needs to be a British rock band...possibly The Who, or maybe Robert Plant, perhaps even Clapton!
Someone mentioned Robert Plant - he came out with a new album again this year and he was on one of the bonnaroo CDs that they give out (I think in 2005), so he's on Superfly's radar. I personally would love to see him, esp if he did some Zeppelin stuff.

How about The Stooges? They've gotten back together, they're legends in their own right, and they're apparently putting together a new CD, last I heard. Though, honestly, I'm not sure how they would fit in, especially as headliners... not to mention Iggy and Co. are a little (read: LOT) past their prime.
I could see Modest Mouse headlining with their new CD coming out and with Johnny Marr of The Smiths fame with them now, though I doubt many people would dig it.
Personally, I'd love if Superfly pulled out someone like Tom Waits or (be still my heart) Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds for headliners, but I doubt either would fit the bill, legendary though they may be.
I saw Plant last summer, almost half his set is Zeppelin material, brilliant rocker! Could you imagine a possible Floyd reunion for Bonnaroo '07...not gonna happen, but that would totally nuts.
As to Plant, I've heard/seen unconsistent things about how he performs nowadays. I've seen Youtube videos where it was surprisingly good and videos where it's mediocre to pretty bad. As to reviews, they've been up and down so I haven't taken anything to mind. If he were to perform well, he would be a very cool performer.
I am curious though if Plant solo is big enough to headline. I figure he could, and Zeppelin is huge, but in today's musical world is he a bigger solo performer than Bob Dylan? I think it takes someone with a really big modern presence to headline at 'Roo. Then again, Roger Waters or Gilmour aren't that big on their own, but their tours are a big deal, and I would be shocked if they weren't to headline.
To reiterate and hopefully bring up new ideas, when you look at Roo it's obviously a progressive festival, going from really busting out the jams to a more level balance. This makes me wonder who they could book that would continue the feelings of progress, like Radiohead did last year. I don't think RHCP would be as big of a shock given their repeated festival appearances. The closer we get to the announcement, I'm thinking the choices dwindle to the big saturday performer being Tool or Pearl Jam. Both would show change, especially Tool. Anyone else who could reasonably fill it?
