now, i know that this could be taken as a horribly dumb question... but just bear with me here. ( also I am not aware of this post being innapropriate, so just let me know, or just delete it. i apologize in advance if this is the case. about drugs? i have never been to bonnaroo before, yet i have heard a ton about it, and i benefitted from those who returned from the festival. i am aware that there are drugs at concerts and especially festivals like such. i am not particularly worried about it, but what are the cops like, is it all around, your not going to miss it. i wonder this for the purpose of, do you take with you, or do you expect to find it there. also what kinds of drugs do you find there. i am used to the normal things to find at concerts like lsd, shrooms, pot, nitrous, but what other things are found here? any help would be appreicated. feel free to email me too. i know this is a dumb question.
really i am looking to find out that there aren't such drugs as cocaine, heroin that are all over the place because i have had issues with these drugs in the past, and i don't want to run into it EVERYWHERE. feel free to email me if you want. thanks. sorry for such a lame ass post.
Well it's pretty much all there. The ones you mentioned that you want to avoid, and I would recommend everyone does, aren't quite as common as the others. You won't run into those everywhere and if you really don't want to here about them there are less traveled roads to walk. (shakedown street is what you may want to avoid) Everyone has their own experiences there. I've heard of these drugs being there first hand by shady folks sellin but it's still a rare occurence I would say. Shrooms and what not have always been all over the place and easy to find. Security has never been a problem, at least not that I've encountered. Unfortunately the jamband scene is associated with drugs, so maybe since 'roo is moving in a different direction there won't be as many of the drug crowd there. Just make sure your there for the music first man. Everything else is a just a bonus.

i hear what your saying. what exactly is " shakedown" street. i'm a bonnaroo noob, so i have no idea of these things. please forgive me.
as for drugs being everywhere. i pretty much knew it. thats what i understand. and although i understand that many people probably would pay 170 bucks to get some drugs, i am not. radiohead is my favorite band since i was like 10 years old. i can't wait to see them, among the other good bands that are going. how many years have you gone?
lots of drugs at bonnaroo. it's kinda ridiculous actually. "shakedown street" is a term that indicates the main strip of vendors and people who come to sell their stuff. You usually find the most drugs on shakedown. There are several shakedowns at Bonnaroo. It literally is all there. I've been every year, and while you can get some of the skunkiest weed to come into TN, you can also get offers for coke and other harder drugs. I don't think because the lineup is more diverse that this is going to change. Bonnaroo has developed into a scene, and the scene is here to stay, even if some of the bands don't. Basically, if you are uncomfortable with it, just ignore it. It's easy to do. There will always be people there to sling drugs, but mostly the majority is there to see some damn good live music, and have a great weekend they can remember forever.
drugs are there and it is as if it was legal...bonnaroo was my first festival and i couldnt believe shit liek that went down that easily...at first it was like being on another planet for me...a very fun planet...it was actually sort of a lesson..learned a lot of new terminology that weekend...i didnt see that much hard stuff though..i dont fuck with that shit anyway...laters..

Bonnaroo is an arguement to legalize marijuana.
My first year ('04), I could believe what I was seeing. Pretty much every crowd waiting for a band had a cloud of smoke rising from it. Even a row back from "security." After three days mingling with 100,000 people (or more by the local sherrif's count) amd only two audible acts of agression (both involving chicks yelling at their dudes), I was sold: legalize marijuana and illegalize beer!
Well, maybe that's a bit far, but you know what I mean.

ps - As for the other stuff, there is nothing that screams freedom like walking back to your tent after enjoying music until 5am and hearing every nickname for a drug muttered by folks passing by. This year, I'm going to invent some shit just to see if anyone's interested. "Meal Worm. Who needs Meal Worm?"
thanks for replying. i am not really that worried about it, i just wanted to make sure it was what i was thinking it was. mostly a bunch of herb, and hallucinagens floating around opposed to a bunch of junkies and what-not. that isn't my kind of environment. they tend to be angry a lot. i, on the otherhand, don't tolerate that. i just wanted to make sure. i'll be getting my ticket next saturday at 9:00 cst. i am so excited i can barely wait. i don't even think about graduating high school anymore, its all bonnaroo. i am so stoked.
Bonnaroo is what you choose to make it. You can pretty much find whatever you are looking for, but on the other hand you can avoid things just as easily. That's what make it so cool.

skillful, man, i know exactly how you're feeling. 'roo is gonna be the perfect way to end senior year. for most people its whatever stupid stuff you do after prom, but for me its gonna be bonnaroo.

yeah dude. i am in an accelerated program, and i am done with high school in 4 weeks. the guys i'm graduating with are so fucking excited. but i am at least 100x more excited about bonnaroo, and i am not even thinking about graduating. only bonnaroo. i can't wait to go out, camp, chill, listen to some damn good live music, meet some cool people, chill more, and just have fun. i am so fucking excited. i tried to go to bonnaroo in 2004, but i couldn't go then, in 2005 i was in school in milton, nh... now i am going and i can hardly wait. i think about it all the time. i am so excited. no better way to end high school. we should definitely meet up and throw it down bonnaroo style. i am so down.
I went to Woodstock '94 the summer after I graduated high school and it was indeed the perfect capper (and the best time of my life up to that point). Plenty of similarities with a Bonnaroo experience although Bonnaroo has better music, better management, a better setup, and a better crowd.

thats what i want to hear. i don't know how you will feel about this, but screw being old. regardless of whether or not your going on a decade at your job, graduating high school, just legal to drink, whatever were all the same age at heart at bonnaroo

Age is all in your mind! I've been going to shows for 30+ years and have no intention of stopping, why should anybody, it's fun! This will be my third Roo and I can't wait. My drivers license says I'm pushing fifty but my head space is locked in at twenty-one. Enjoy!

Damn, i still have a year left of highschool, ha. Age really doesnt matter at bonnaroo though. Last year me and my friend hung out with our neighbors who were in their 30s so much that one of our few cars down neighbors asked if we were their kids, haha, it was pretty funny.
Yeah i can definitely see that happening. i have been in a community like that for over a year, and it just makes everything so much happier. age is only a factor that some people choose to dwell over.

i read a lot about cops busting people, and checking shit and arresting people... yet i also understand that there are goodies everywhere. and they aren't hard to find. how does that workout? any insight...
In 04, they just glanced into our car (although I did see them searching more thoroughly through other vehicles, and I have heard of very thorough searches). Last year, we didn't come in until Friday, we did day parking, and they did not even glance into our car.
I think there are factors that make it more or less likely that you will get searched. One thing I've heard is that having an RV makes it more likely you will get searched.
As far as off the site, again, certain factors will affect the chances of getting pulled over. The way I figure it, the less you stand out, the less likely you are to get searched. (probably not fair, but I can't help but think it's true -- the only person I've ever seen pulled over was a VW van).
And glass (bottles)... going through the checkpoints last year, it seemed that they were mostly interested in glass bottles (hint: put them in the bottem of the coolers)
Post by melikecheese on Feb 6, 2006 17:13:31 GMT -5
they do pull some random cars out to search with the dogs. I read a few articles in some parapers last year about it. Basically our check was "got any glass?" Nope, all cans, I don't wanna cause any problems, "Good man, go aheada guys have fun." I would hate to say it but the car with all the sticker next to us and all the very hippy looking kids in tie-dyes got searched way more then ours. They were pulling stuff out of the trunk. Me and my friend in a clean cut honda seemed to not be a worry. Honestly I was worried about this kinda thing the first year I went but once you get there you like, ""i worried why??" I just by my goodies there just in case...you never know.
the security people straight up saw our bottles we brought. the dude mentioned something to another guy, and they waved us throught. we thanked them and proceeded to have an amazing weekend.

that is sweet. i mean, really, if bringing bottles are going to potentially cause a hassle and what not, it isn't THAT important. althought bottles are pretty good, it isn't that important. i am so excited about going. radiohead has been my favorite band since i was like 10.

yeah. this year we're taking my friend's vw bus and after getting searched last year, there's no doubt in my mind we'll be searched again. but we're aren't bringing any contrabands this year so it'll all be good.
