I'm not setting foot into that "5th Round Prediction" thread, so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet. Either way, I guess it doesn't belong there because we have a verbal confirmation from Colonel Bruce (per a connection over at JamFanForum.com) that the Codetalkers are scheduled for a 1:00 main stage slot on Sunday. I know nothing about them, but am eager to explore.
I cannot believe Casey at JFF talks to the Col. The Col. is one of my heroes.
My Codetalkers thoughts from the Round 5 prediction thread:

Can someone tell me about Codetalkers? Please.
Well, first and foremost the Codetalkers feature The Col. Bruce Hampton (retired):
If you aren't familiar with him, he is basically the godfather (or maybe just god) of all southern-jam-freakiness. And he used play a mean chazoid, although apparantly he's on guitar now. He has a long history of southern psychedelia. I became aware of him with Aquariam Rescue Unit in the early '90's (although I'm a huge Phishhead, they are quite possibly my favorite jamband and the one I most regret not having seen) with Oteil Burbidge and Jeff Sipe among others. He might have mystical powers.
Not least of all, he was the star of Mike Gordon's film "Outside Out":
And the Codetalkers are badass as well, basically a jamband but with bluegrass leanings (there's a banjo and an upright bass involved). The Col. wears a suit for it, so its got to be important. They killed at Bonnaroo '02. I remember feeling that I had to "get up early" to catch their 2:00 Saturday set. There was no crowd, I was right up front for the whole thing (my first and only time seeing the Col.), and it was one of the highlights of my weekend. There's a track on the "Live From Bonnaroo 2002 Vol. 2" disc called "Body in the Lake", that never leaves my mP3 player. For the last two months its been the only track by a non Roo '06 artist on my Bonnaroo playlist because it just instantly evokes Bonnaroo to me.
If they get added, they will be in my top 5 (or 6 or 7) must sees.
I'm gonna see Aquarium Rescue Unit at All Good. You should go.
Acquariam Rescue unit without the Col. (or Jeff Sipe) is an entirely different animal to me. I would love to see them though, I used to have an EP from right after the Col. left that I liked and I'm one of Oteil's biggest fans.

lloks like theyve got the main stage sunday at 1 according to the schedule thread. that will be an awesome way to start the last day at roo. and phil will be an awesome way to end it. i cant wait! i bet the codetalkers will have a smallish turnout so that will be sweet to be up close without the hassle. and id imagine lots of people will leave before phil so hopefully that will be an easy up front too
CodeTalkers rock. I saw them outdoors last fall at Magnolia Fest in Florida and just a few weeks ago at Freebird Live in Jacksonville FL. Not only is the music something not to be missed but so is the show. They are a group of personalities on stage and they have fun with a crowd. Also, the roo weekend is their new CD Release Party Weekend!
Dozer "Sometimes in life you have to make a few mistakes, I threw the body in the lake"
I agree. Sunday is looking to be a nice ending to roo. It has been a long time since I have had a chance to see Phil play and I have been listening to the Codetalkers ever since the adds were announced. I can't wait to see them play.
As the Codetalkers continue their travels through the northeast, the band is now gigging as a trio. Bruce Hampton has taken some time off the road, while Bobby Lee Rodgers, Tyler Greenwell and Ted Pecchio perform in support of the group’s forthcoming release, Now (which includes appearances by The Colonel). Meanwhile, the group has clarified the state of Hampton's involvement in upcoming shows:
“Months before Bruce's recent abrupt hiatus from the band, there had been plans to step back once the band's tour schedule picked up pace in support of their upcoming CD release. The fact is that Bruce has been on the road for forty years and wants a break. He has always said that The Codetalkers were really Bobby Lee Rodgers' band, and Bruce's presence has always helped draw new fans to the shows, but most kept coming because of the very things that drew Col. Bruce to Bobby Lee in the first place. The winning addition of Tyler and Ted also helped take the band to the next level.
But, with the impending release of the new CD, the band and Bruce decided that this was a fitting time for him to take a breather. The plans were that he would appear in key high-profile dates, but leave the hardcore touring to the younger boys. He assures us all that he will always be around and will always be performing, either with The Codetalkers, or with other bands here and there. He will definitely be at Bonnaroo! As for the more routine dates in the coming months, the assumption should be for now that Bruce will not be present. We will certainly let you know the dates when he will be performing.”
I've seen the Codetalkers a number of times. The last time I saw them (in Jacksonville, FL (March 31)). The Colonel was really laid back and did not really put himself out like he had in past performances I'd seen. He stayed behind the keyboard all night. Other times he was much more animated on stage and would play more than just a keyboard. So, while he has added a lot to the music, and it will be great to see him at roo, I'm also looking forward to finding out what the Talkers sound like with out him. One has to wonder, "Will they keep the ties now that he is leaving?"

"He will definitely be at Bonnaroo!" - Thats all I needed to know.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

Last time I caught the Codetalkers they played at a local bar on the coldest day of the winter. You could see your breath indoors and only about 30 people came out. Didn't matter, they killed. It was like a bizarre private party. They told jokes, we brought them shots. The Colonel is the world's greatest good ol' boy. I saw him with ARU and the Fuji Mariners too. Kinda bummed my chances to see him play are going to drop off a bit but I guess the guy deserves to take things easy. This year's Roo is chance to see two musicians, Bruce and Buddy, who jammed with Jimi and I'm not gonna waste it.
