What the ppl at Roo should do if they plan on having Primus as a late show is to have them on Friday nite with Vida Blue and have a cool Jam band to go with Ween on Sat. This was ppl who want to see a good alternative band have something and the ppl who want to see a more tradition jam band have that choice. I am sure there will be decent stuff in the smaller tents to offset Saturday if Primus and Ween play the same night.
The best would be, according to the information we have of yet--- Vida Blue and someone else(Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon) and then Ween and Primus on Saturday Night, with a late late night show with Medeski, Martin and Wood(when I am really feelin' fine)
definitely jmp, i want to see them fill that last slot.
also, im a huge fan of primus, but i really dont think they have the right kind of show for the late night set, that will somewhat upset me if thats true. havent gotten into ween much either, so i hope, if all of the first three late night sets are correct, that the last one is really techno/jazz/jammy. SCI would fit the bill great.
Here is the info that seems strongly confirm on band's websites/E-mails:
Vida Blue Friday late night Ween Saturday late night
There are rumors of Primus Saturday late night that I am unable to confirm.
Some interesting info I picked up while doing some research:
MMW: they are playing shows on June 11, 12 and 13 that are not Bonnaroo acccording to their website. They are playing a show in Ohio on June 12 at 11:30 am and a show in Pittsburgh on the evening of June 13 w/ 311 (time is TBA but one can assume that a MMW/311 show would be in the evening). This STRONGLY supports the rumor that they will play a late late night set from 4 am -???? on Sunday morning (the end of Saturday night), since it would be the only set for them that would be logistically conceivable.
Umphrey's: On the chatboard at umphreaks.com (fansite) someone claims that they overheard a bandmember saying that Umphrey's was playing Saturday late-night at Bonnaroo. Maybe this is BS. Maybe its true. I don't know. Ween and Primus were already rumored to be the two Saturday late night bands. Maybe one is Friday late night instead. Maybe there are more than two late night stages scheduled.
Maybe this is all hypothetical bologna. I don't know.
Well the official schedule hasn't even come out yet and I already have a conflict with Vida Blue/Umphrey's. I hope there aren't too many conflicts like this later on. However, if you were to choose one, which band would you want to see more?
So if you we trust the rumours out there (Primus seems to be the only rumory variable at this point) and the "two bands playing late-night" setup of the last two years, it looks like we know the deal now:
Friday night late night: Vida Blue and Umphrey's McGee
Saturday night late night: Ween and Primus
Strong possiblity: MMW late late night Saturday night/Sunday morning
A few comments: -these are odd pairings and I think virtually anyone would rather see them swap one of the Friday bands for one of the Saturday bands just for the sake of variety and options for those whose taste might be more specific. Personally I would love to see all four proposed late night bands, but I think significant segments of the crowd might be more inclined to either the Friday night pair or the Saturday night pair. It seems like it would be better for everyone if they mixed it up.
-for those concerned about a Vida Blue/Umphrey's conflict, I would say don't worry. 12:00-4:00am is a looooong time slot and I think both of these bands can fill it up(Umphrey's certainly can). The stages should be relatively close to each other and the beautiful thing about Bonnaroo late-night sets is how easy it is to rotate between both parties.
-I am a bit skeptical that both Primus and Ween can fill the whole 4 hour slot. I love Ween and as a bass player have a healthy respect/interest in Les Claypool, but I am just curious about whether or not these bands can play for four hours based on their M.O. Last year, the Lips went about three hours and then particle took over til dawn. See my post above for why I think MMW may take this "Particle slot" this year.
-The late-night sets have been one of the biggest reasons I love Bonnaroo the last two years, even though I slept through Friday late-night last year (bringing an alarm clock this year). Overall, I think the info we have so far suggests that I won't be dissappointed this year between midnight and dawn!

From what I have seen from the past two Roos on paper... there are two main acts that play at night and then about 3-4 smaller acts in the other tents.
last year they had an arcade tent with a dj and a smaller tent with a cover band in it. but the first year it was just the two tents. last year particle played after the lips ended. they were suppossed to play from midnight until four but only played till about 2 or 230. then particle went on at about three.
As cdb120 posted in the Adrian Belew thread, Belew's website confirms that Primus will be playing a late night Saturday set (this is the first hard info I have seen about this). The site also mentions that they will be on the Main Stage. This could easily be a mistake (late night sets have always been in the tents) or it could indicate that the late-night setup will be changing this year. Hmmmm.
