Hey all, I went to Roo last year '04 and bought my tickets 10 days before the show on stubhub.com for 100 bucks a piece. Anyone know if the tickets sell out real quick at the third tier or is this the normal pace? I am assuming they tier the tickets in the fashion they did to make it look like the tickets are running out, and making people buy quicker. The only reason I didnt buy them right away is for lack of money. Anyway, if anyone knows about how long the third tier is expected to hold out, let me know. Much appreciated. Hope to see some of you this year at the Roo! -Andy
Superfly is frustratingly tight-lipped about the things like the number of tickets sold so far and the number of tickets in each tier (the latter seems to me like a very suspiciuos and questionable business practice) so I don't think anybody knows how the sales are going or how long the tickets will be available. My guess is that tickets will be available right up until the delivery date (sometime in late May?) gets close.
There was much discussion last year about how fast things would sell out, and in my opinion it wasn't 100% coincidence that the sellout was announced right around the date that all of the tickets were being shipped out. I believe that '02 and '03 sold out considerably more quickly, but don't remember the timing of those years as clearly. From last year it seems like there is a pretty good balance between the number of tickets being sold and the number of people who want them. I didn't hear any stories from last year of people who wanted to go and were willing to pay face value but couldn't find a way to get a hold of a ticket. And although I would beg people not to come without tickets for the crowd situation, there have been frustratingly cheap tickets available in line outside of the festival every single year.
In any case I think you are exactly right about the tier pricing: the vast majority of the tickets are for the third, most expensive tier.
Disclaimer: Of course anything could happen and they could sell out tommorrow for all I know.
