Hello fellow bonnaroovians..
i'm coming in from canada, and this is the first year i'll be 21 and therefore old enough to buy my booze in your fair country instead of carting it with me over the border... so i'm wondering which state is the cheapest to buy my booze in, i'm coming in through michigan, ohio, kentucky and (obviously) tennessee.
Also, are their particular kinds of stores i shoould go to? Here in ontario we only have one store for liquor and one for beer (all gov't run), but down in the USA it seems like everybody is selling beer.
Just find yourself a moderately sized liquor store in a town you scoot through. Otherwise, most gas stations sell beer. Unless someone knows something that I don't, I'm not aware of any major differences in booze prices/taxes from state to state. I mean, at least not to the point that you should only buy your alcohol in one particular state. Good luck!

I'm in South Carolina -- we have to have separate liquor stores, by law. Of course, we also have counties that are dry on Sunday, so we've got problems right out of the gate.
There are some "party store" type places that sell both, but the liquor section is still separate (like in another room, etc.) so that they can be legal.

Oh right - forgot to mention that pretty much every food store sells beer here. I'm mentioning all this b/c I figure TN laws are close to SC laws (since we're so close together).
Mississippi is backwards! We have dry counties and wet counties - places where you can buy beer on Sunday and where you cannot - but never never never will they sell beer and liquor in the same place - not sure about TN

OHIO
All gas stations and grocery stores (walmart included) carry beer and watered down booze. Please not its not ALL stores. You may hit a few couties with no booze.
Some grocery stores have state liquor stores now, its becomeing more common. The state liquor stores sell both beer and the hard stuff. A few of them are open on Sunday around center ohio.

Listen to me. Wal-Mart sells beer. Wal-Mart sells everything. It may be different state to state but I gaurantee that you will find at least one wal-mart that sells beer.
Kentucky, not sure about tennesse but liqor taxes are definitly way cheaper than ohio, thats why everyone down here crosses the river whenever they need to stock up for a party. And i cant see tennesse being any cheaper really, but i dunno. And im pretty sure itll be cheaper than michigan too.
The Wal-Mart here in Manchester, TN does in fact sell beer. They don't do exotics or foreign (unless you count Beck's) but carry most of your American Big Brewery beers. They also sell light wines like Boone's Farm.
Well, the super wal-marts (or whatever they're called) sell beer cause they have grocery stores in them. There may be states somewhere where you could find liquor at Wal-mart, but Tennessee isn't one of them.
Personally I refuse to shop at walmart though, it's just a matter of principal.
oh buddy, they're already here... i'm always surprised at how busy walmart can be on like a teusday morning or some non-shopping hour... at least ours haven't made the transition into grocery stores yet!
thanks for all the info guys, i'll try to remember to bring some kokanee down if that's the beer everyone wants to trade for!
One more thing: how much can i expect to pay for a 24 of beer, or a fourty of something harder?

If you will be driving down I-75, as soon as you pass through Cincinnatti into Kentucky, there is a huge party supply/liquor store in Covington right along the front street along the Ohio River called "Cork 'N Bottle" www.corknbottle.com/. The place had an awesome selection and pretty reasonable prices.
No matter where you stop and get your booze, if you are buying beer, don't do it in Michigan where we will charge you an extra $.10 a can for a deposit that you are likely to never collect.
well of course, you're getting miller lite and PBR. you can get sixers of PBR for like 3.50. miller lite is effing gross, so i wouldn't know. natural light is the cheap.

Why spend $3.50 for a sixer of PBR when you can shell out $5.50 more and get 24 more beers!?
Nah, but like Mike said, light beer's monetary value is only outweighed by the fact that it can be drank for hours upon hours. Anyway, I gave up my short lived beer snobdom a couple years back and I enjoy a lot of lighter beers. Don't get me wrong, I love "good" beers as much as the next guy (I got some Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA yesterday for a hot price), but can still enjoy my cubes of Busch Light.
