This will be my second time making the trip to 'roo (first time was in 2004). My fiance and I are driving through the night (from Detroit) to make it there by 8am Thursday. My question is, I want to bring a laptop for the ride down so she can watch movies on it or something. I need a power adapter that won't blow a fuse in my car, and perhaps I could plug in my low-voltage battery charger for my digital camera when I get there.
Have any of you been shopping for, or own, something that you could recommend? Any help would be appreciated, thanks guy!
Just a regular old plugs-in-the-lighter inverter (~12VDC -> 120VAC) should work fine, probably about $10-15 at an auto parts store. Neither the laptop nor the camera charger should draw that much current so you shouldn't need to worry about blowing a fuse or anything.

As far as the camera goes... if your camera has a rechargable battery I'd say head over to ebay and just buy one or two (or more!) extra batteries and charge them before you go. The batteries for my camera cost like, over $30 retail and sellers on ebay sell the generic ones for a starting bid of 1 cent! (with shipping about $2 each) And in my experience there were so many for sale that the bidding never goes beyond about 10 cents

How sure are you of this? I've been straining trying to look for information lately and I haven't been able to find ANYTHING! I really don't wanna mess the car up, or my laptop for that matter. I saw a 300 watt power inverter at Target this afternoon for $7, would that be TOO much power? How do this stuff work? My laptop draws 65 watts, so I would need something that is larger than 65w?
Radioshack carries this badass adapter that charges your cell phone, computer, and something else all at once. If you go talk to somebody there they will find something for your needs
How sure am I? 90% or so, laptop power supplies are (usually) pretty good at smoothing out AC power. The $7 inverter probably puts out a modifed sine wave (vs. true sine) which should be OK (you can double check w/ the laptop manufact.), 300W is max output, if your 'puter draws 65W, then thats what the inverter will supply. Here's some pages that explain a lot, www.donrowe.com/inverters/inverter_faq.html www.roadtripamerica.com/dashboarding/Power-Inverters.htm Hope that helps!

If you are still worried though you can always get a auto/air adapter made by the manufacturer. You should be able to find one at a decent price on ebay.
