Hey, I hear lots of talk about water bottles and beer in cans, but nothing about recycling! I'm guessing there will be no receptacles provided, considering the size of the event??
Sooo... my next question is: will anyone be bringing their own bags to take back their recycling with them? And are there any things rooers do/plan to do to help the environment?
We'll be stopping by a friend's house in Nashville, so here's the recycling center we'll hit up. unless we just hold onto everything till we get home
East Center 941 Doctor Richard G. Adams Drive Nashville, TN 37207 615-862-8631 Mon. - Sat.: 7:30am-5pm Sunday: noon to 4p.m.
You can recycle all your items there. They ask you to put the garbage into the correct colored bag. They also have garbage cans every where so you can seperate out your recylclables plastic, glass etc.
They provide you a green bag for bottles (even though they're a no-no) and plastic when you get your wristbands. Plus several clear garbage bags too. There are 50-gallon drums in Centeroo with covers labeled for each type of recyclable.
There's really no excuse for people to trash up the place with all the available places to sort and store empties (but people still do anyway ).

I pick up trash (esp. glass) all weekend as I walk along (not in Clean Vibes or anything). I find events like this to be weird karma nexus..es (is that the plural of nexus?). It's like the energy of the people make karma much more severe and immediate, in terms of both good & bad actions. Best to be nice and do for others whenever possible.
Like pigs said, they provide you with large bags for trash and recyclables.
When the camps start clearing out you see large piles of recyclables and trash bags sprouting up all over. Then, from what I understand, the garbage dudes shoot around and start picking the crap up.
You would think the government would offer some incentives to towns who meet proportional quotas of recyclable materials collected every year. In College Station the city didn't give a rat's ass if you recycled.

Yeah, without incentives many towns just use landfill space (which is frequently less expensive than setting up and maintaining a recycling program). I know in many parts of Kentucky it's cheaper to bury it in a valley.
This is the group that has handled the trash at roo in the past, along with other large fests. They have lots of photos linked from this site - photos that can inspire and photos that can make you really sad when you look at the amount of trash left after only four days.
In my packing I'm trying to eliminate as much packaging and immediate trash as possible. (like taking the cans out of the box and leaving the box at home) While I'm still creating some trash I'd like to leave as much at home where I know it can get recycled and not put the burden on the fest to do it for me.
Dozer, thanks for the link to Clean Vibes. There were some great pics ... I found this one that explains what happens with all of the glass-bottled beer that gets confiscated:
I just recently moved from Michigan to Pa and I was soooo bummed when I found out they had no bottle return! I don't see why every state doesn't do that. It sure gives people the motivation to go recycle their beer and pop empties.
