A few of my friends and I are going to be riding a Greyhound to Bonnaroo, and I'm a little worried about a few things. First of all, I've traveled greyhound once before, and I hated it, but no one wants to or can't drive (only one minor, but I don't drive, and the other three, their parents don't want them driving). Being in a group of friends will probably be better than last time when I was all alone. What I'm mostly worried about is the packing list. I read the light packing list on the second or third page, but that still seems like the greyhound people will have a shit fit over. A hiking pack will fit all of that, correct? Also, I don't make much money at my job (working 4 hours a week, at 5.85 an hour sucks), and playing in my own band saps a lot of money. So, tickets for 'roo, and greyhound (around $350 after all is said and done) is going to take pretty much all the money I have in my name. So, how much should I take to be able to survive, plus maybe get a few "goodies", and maybe some glass (if I'm lucky)? I'm very excited for this, because I love a lot of the bands on the list, and I can't wait to see them all in one crazy weekend. Any help will be awesome.

You're going to need a good amount of spending money man, and emergency money too... You can bring alot of luggage on the bus its no problem you just tag it and throw it underneath... The best thing to do if you want to survive on little cash would be to pack alot of food, if you've read my other post about how i pack you get the idea... If you dont mind drinking the free station water you wont really need money for that either if you want fresh its $6 a gallon or $1-$2 bottles around the campground... If you have a group of friends just put all your heads together and figure out how to make it work...

At Bonnaroo 2004, I was forced to take the Greyhound bus home from TN to Wisconsin after my car blew it's transmission. It was alright - I met a lot of people from 'Roo who took the Greyhound.
However - there is one horror story that I have heard from multiple people that took the bus: One the drive down and when you stop at a bus station, be prepared for Police. These people told me that the Police asked "who's going to Bonnaroo?" and proceeded to search their belongings. If you confessed and got rid of the stuff there would be no trouble - but if you tried to sneak it on, or even have any kind of drugs that aren't marijuana, it could lead to an arrest. One group of guys I traveled with said they saw this whole scenario played out right before their eyes. So, just be smart about it.

Man i've taken the Greyhound all over the place for the past few years and i've never had anyone hassle me... I've barely even seen a cop at a station... Only outside and around the shadier bus stations.... You'll notice more and more Roo peeps at the bus stations the closer you get to TN, the nashville station was PACKED with us last year and again i didnt see any cops... Im kinda glad i dont have to take the bus this year but its pretty damn usefull when you do need it...

We got a ride in the back of a pickup truck from some locals for $5 a head, it is walkable but it'll be hot and its a decent hoof, not sure how far exactly im sure you could mapquest it or something... There should be plenty of people around helping with rides from the bus station....
