I imagine that Ali Babba or however you spell it will be there, those guys are a hit at just about every summer fest. Its like $8 or so for a wrap but its Ali Babbas you gotta get at least one... I eat mostly my backpacking food and cheap lot food or snacks (grilled cheese, quesadillas, energy bars, trailmix etc...) to save on money but when i get in the mood for a nice hearty hot meal i always find a vendor that satisfies... Theres alot of ethnic foods and typical fair style stuff too... I didnt see very many organic or vegetarian/vegan food options around last year and it would be cool to see more of that, i know they were out there but not a whole lot...

That's good to know. I guess I'm going to have to either do the grilled cheese/quesadilla thing too, unless they have some fake meat at one of the grocery stores we pass on the way to 'roo.
Like Lucid Interval said, there was a lot of festival food there. The first day I think I bought a corn dog, but after that I stuck to buying smoothies for the rest of the weekend. I'm not a vegetarian, but it was really hot at the beginning of the weekend and I was leery about how well the food was being stored, chilled, etc. I know, I know, I'm just a silly paranoid girl, but I did not want to get sick in a portapotty.
i love the food at roo!!!! i recommend the chicken on a stick! its killer although the chicken teriyaki is basically the same thing for the same price and i think ya got more chicken plus rice and veggies at the mainstage row of vendors allthe way at the far end is this taco burrito stand(taco flavored kisses) these things are like the size of my head and really really good....if you are tyring to go cheap there are dollar grilled cheese and quesadillas at vendors and you can always find some one selling grilled burgers and hotdogs for a buck in the camp area.... there were some hippies selling quesadillas out of their site and they had this organic homemade bannana bread and it was the best bannana bread i have ever had.... also ive never head of anyone getiing sick from the food at roo....not that it couldnt happen though, im a paranoid person also, there are lots of places i wont eat, but at roo i just say fuck it and its worked out so far (knock on wood)
I intend to pack less and buy more of my food from vendors this year. It's all decently priced, there's a huge selection, and it means less of a headache for me.

thats the main benefit is how much easier and less time consuming it is... who wants to waste time at roo preparing food? and food takes up alot of space in a car. most of the vendors are 24 hours a day too so you can get grub whenever the urge shows up....usually about 5am after a latenight for me
Your main concern with lot food should be Hep C, not food poisoning.
On SCI tour a year or so ago about 150 people came down with it - all due to poor hygiene during food prep. Hep C is what took out Phil Lesh's liver.
Don't want to be a pain, but I think you mean Hep A. It freaked me out a bit when I saw Hep C, because you normally get this thru blood contact (like dirty needles). I googled the SCI tour and hepatitis and it was Hep A that made people sick. But the message is the same, make sure the people preparing your food wash their hands! Or, you could just get the vaccine

ummm i think ill go with clean hands even if i got the shot there is still something to be said for clean hands.... really i have always thought that the food vendors were clean and safe... i saw some guy dripping sweat into stuff as he was cookin ...it was in 04 and ya cant blame a guy for sweating in that heat.... kinda gross but i ate it... fuck it its bonnaroo... i couldnt have made myself a pb&j without sweating in it on that day let alone cooking over a big ass grill

No pain at all, thanks for the correction. I'd rather the right info be out there than keep my fragile ego intact.
Hep A is what I meant to type. I was thinking Hep C because of the comment I made about about Phil.
So what is the average price at these vendors...if planning on packing light and buying more meals at the vendors than actually cooking..how much could one expect to spend.

It all seemed fairly standard outdoor festival / fair food prices to me. $4-5 for a foot long dog or sausage, <$5 for a big plate of fries, around $5 for a big ass burrito.
This year I'm budgeting around $30-40 a day for food and drinks. I figure I'll eat about twice a day inside centeroo and have snacks at the campsite and lot food at other times.
I've never been to 'roo, but I can say that I already have a favorite vendor food from roo... my roommates told me about something they got at roo called a "Spinach Mozzadilla" which is basically a quesadilla with mozzarella, spinach, tomatoes, and pesto sauce... sounds weird, but tastes amazing. We make them all the time here at the house, and I'll be looking to buy one at roo...

That sounds so good right now... I've never tried those ingredients in quesadilla form, but there's a first time for everything. Maybe some fresh basil, too?
I love the food at Bonnaroo, especially inside Centeroo, there is so much to choose from! I only ate meat once (chicken) and the rest was all veggie-friendly - some great tofu stir fries, nachos with rice and beans, etc. All of the food was really good (and I'm a bit of a "chef" so I'm pretty critical). I'd say you could get a really good filling meal inside Centeroo with all the food groups for under $8.
On Shakedown the only thing I tried were the $1 garlic grilled cheeses which are pretty good if you want a cheap, fast, hot snack. Then there's the unnoficial vendors in the campsites which were really good and cheap as well - we had some great tamales the first night and really great breakfast burritos Sunday morning.

Sounds good except for the tomato part - I don't know why, but I've hated tomatoes since I was a kid.
I was thinking of buying half my food there, and bringing the other half. I might just get a bunch of MREs to bring - they're not great, but they're perfect for this type of thing since you don't have to spend time preparing them and they don't take up much room.

It's all about the french bread pizza from a campground vendor, peoples.
I got a really good random wrap one time -- seemed easy to make. Guy just threw some grilled chicken, ton of cheese, a little bacon, maybe some onions, and a ton of ranch dressing. Good & fast.

Grilled cheese is the way to go for cheap. They are good and for a buck you can eat all day for 5$. Tons of carbs for energy and protien in the cheese. Seriously the Garlic Grilled Cheese on Shakedown Street might be the greatest thing to ever happen to the low income music lover.
im think wraps all the way. they dont take up much room, you dont have to worry about them getting smushed traveling like bread, and the ingridents are ridicolously interchangable, and one can be made for every meal!

well, the main ingredient in a typical pesto sauce is basil, but I guess if you really like basil, you could add some fresh basil too...
i hear that. i love ketchup though. i think its that slimey texture that kills em for me
Yeah it's definately a texture thing...I'll have ketchup, tomato soup, tomato juice, hell even salsa - but if someone puts a big ol slice of tomato on my sandwich I get green in the face.
The first Roo I took tons of food. Last year was my second and we cut down very much on the food that we brought. The vendors in centerroo had very good pizza and other items. This year I will be cutting back again. Last year we got into Manchester early afternoon on wednesday and went to the Wallmart. I am not a big fan, but it was easiest to buy all our food there and then ice down. That meant that we did not have to worry about the coolers until we got to Manchester. We saved on ice and when we rolled in wednesday evening our coolers were iced and ready to go. Plus the Wallmart parking lot is crazy and worth seeing all the people and the fun they are having

Yeah last year as we were checking out of Walmart (the first time I have stepped foot in one in over 6 years since it was the only place in town) I overheard two checkout women talking. One said it was her day off but she came in to work anyway because they needed more help and she said "I wouldn't miss this circus for anything!" referring to the madhouse of Rooers in the store.
