Alright, so, this'll be my first Bonnaroo. We're staying at a hotel (my girlfriend's wishes, not mine) and I was curious whether or not they let dayparkers in on Thursday? I'm hoping they do because a) It would give us a chance to scope out the grounds and get a feel for what we're in for the next day and b) If rumor holds true, I really don't want to miss The Wood Brothers or Devotchka.

When the gate's open the gate's open but i can tell you this... you might not want to be trying to drive in and out all weekend it will just end up being a hassle. After you're wiped from all day of festival activities and shows and long walks to and from your car you might just want to crash man, camping is the way to go, soooooo very much less to worry about. As for scoping the grounds out, you probably wont have time in one day lol Tell your girl to pack smart and get ready to go campin'
Read this post for more opinions... some much less biased than mine
P.S. Do you already have the hotel reserved? Cuz i wouldnt be suprised if they were booked already and some people mentioned that you might have to get a full 4 day reservation during that weekend... If your girl feels super grimey after the fest just get a room on the way home and shower and rest up for the drive, how far are you coming from?

Man, that's what I want to do, but I can't talk her into it. She doesn't like the idea of going three/four days without a shower, which is understandable, but I wish she'd just grin and bear it. Oh well. We'll be staying pretty close and I won't be doing much (if any) drinking, so my only real fear is the traffic.

Well i dont know about where they have day people park, my guess is that its toward the edge of the fest near a gate which is a pretty decent walk from centeroo. If you dont have the hotel reserved you should get on it, but seriously man, its going to be a hassle. Bonnaroo is pretty overwhelming in alot of ways and going in and out and constantly thinking about having to go in and out could turn out to be a pain in the ass. I dont know how many fests you or your girl have been to but, EVERYONE goes without a shower. Tens of thousands of us will be DIRTY and we will love it, and you should convince your girl to love it too. Im coming straight from wakarusa by bus i could be looking at 2 weeks without a shower. Bring baby wipes, wash your hair at the water stations set up a comfy camp where you can chill when you need to. Its almost futile to drive to a hotel who knows how far away, shower and pass out only to want to get up and run back to the roo only to get sweaty, muddy and pie eyed for another day.... IMO
I've been to quite a few fests, but this is my girlfriend's first, so it's going to be worse for her. We've got a hotel reserved in Murfreesboro, which is right down the interstate about 20-30mins away. As far as I can tell, we won't be at the hotel much. We'll come in at noon everyday and stay till 4am every night, so the back-and-forth between the hotel won't be too bad. Next year, however, come hell or high water, I'm camping.

Yah i wouldnt expect traffic to be bad throughout the weekend, just the rush in and the rush out. If you got it all set up then go for it, bring a tent in the car just in case and keep buggin her about it, she might go for one night hehe... You gotta camp to get the full experience im sure you know that.
My girlfriend declined to go with me again this year but i think its mostly because im taking two weeks off and doing Wakarusa too... she also jokingly said that she likes it when i leave for weeks at a time Last year i came back and she had bought me a nice record player, receiver and a gift certificate to the vinyl shop, talk about a woman...
Yeah, I figure the interstate will be pretty clear considering most people are camping. I figure I might bring a tent Saturday or Sunday night and force her to stay that night at least.
See, you've got it lucky. I love my girl to death, don't get me wrong, but she turned it into 'she goes or I don't' situation once she saw the band lineup, pretty much dropping a bomb on my camping out plans. I guess I could try to bribe a nice record player/gift certificates to a vinyl shop to make up for it. ;D

Im just thinking if its your girls first fest she's gunna get tired, she gunna be wiped out. Now hotels are nice and all but its going to add to the hiking around factor i assume. But ultimately you guys should bend for each other, she could do one night campout, maybe the day where you guys want to see the most bands and you can do the hotel gig whenever...
