Hey everyone, me and a friend are flying down to bonnaroo this year. Last year 11 of us drove a big purple school bus, and packing all the food/water we needed was no problem. This year we're flying down though, and can't pack as much. Water wasn't terribly expensive last year, but I'd rather be able to bring all the food and water we need into the event. Anyone have any suggestions? I can't really remember how far the nearest store was from the 'roo. If it isn't far i wouldn't mind the walk at all. Thanks

The closest store to the concert site is still several miles away. A lot more than you'd want to walk. Remember one gallon of water = 8 pounds. Assuming you'll be renting a car, I'd just stop along the way from the airport and buy a few cases. Even if you have to drink it warm, staying hydrated is the secret to survival (you remember how friggin' hot it was on fri last year...)
wasn't planning on renting a car, trying to budget here. would you say it's worth it? i was thinking about it last night, & wondering how cheap i could get one for. we're both under 25 too, so that'd up the cost of a rental.

How are you planning on getting from the airplane to the farm? Whoever is driving you should be able to make a pitstop at a store shouldn't they? Take water, buy food from Shakedown.

still working that out as well.... was thinking about the bonnaroo shuttle, but i don't think thatll stop anywhere.

If i'm correct, the roo shuttle is only for people who signed up for the package through roo.
Renting a car isn't that expensive. Yes, you are under 25, but if you're planning on flying in the first place you NEED to have a car. Where are you going to lock your valuables during the day? How will you get around? How on earth do you plan on getting all of your stuff there?
I'm flying as well, staying at the KOA. We're stopping somewhere in nashville for stuff before we head to roo. It's the best thing to do!
ps. ginger ale is like, non-existent down there!!!
You should be able to find ginger ale. I've lived in Tennessee my whole life and never had a problem. It will either be in the soft drink aisle or with drink mixers.
I too am flying in and I plan on taking the shuttle from the airport to the farm. I think we are gunna try to get a couple of cases of water on the plane to load up the camelbaks with but im dreading having to spend the money to buy food for two people 2-3 times per day at those prices. im already unsure as to how we're gunna get our tent, canopy, the water, clothes and all the other shit we're bringing like camping chairs/sleeping bags and whatnot all on the plane. dont they have limitations on that kind of stuff? we're flying US airways and i dunno what their policy is regarding the amount of things you can check but I know its usually only 2 carry-ons a person. what i guess im asking is does anyone have any suggestions as to what i can bring in regards to food and anyone that has flown there before know the situation with getting all that crap on the plane? also how expensive is the food on average for 2 people a day? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Last year we took a ton of food with us, and brought 75% back with us. As long as you resist the urge to eat in Centeroo (way pricey) you should be able to eat for $10 a day each. In my opinion it would be worth it to not have to haul a bunch of stuff in with you. But dude... I don't know how on earth how you'll get all of that equipment onto a plane, then to a shuttle, and into the farm?! That's nuts!

Beef jerky is small and temperature stable and 98% fat free to boot!
I'd check out any of the many backpacking sites for menus. They have to cart the stuff in on their back too. They've already done the leg-work on lightweight and small meals that will fill you up. I wouldn't get the pre-packaged stuff though. It's more expensive than Centeroo!
I checked with the airline and it says we can check 2 bags each and carry 2 bags on so im figuring we each carry on a case of water and a backpack full of small shit and check the tent and 2 bags of clothing/other supplies and then have room for one more checked bag possibly a canopy for the tent or some other random stuff.
one thing you might want to look at - this is how im doing it, is a camping backpack. If you have one... use it. You can easily store all the clothes you need for the weekend in it, as well as your sleeping bag and tent. if 2 people are going, you can store clothes and food in the other... then you still have 2 more check-in's and 4 carry-ons. that seems like the best option to me.
I seem to remember reading about someone flying in and packing their camping gear in a cooler. One of those five day coolers with wheels would be perfect for that. They just used duct tape to seal it up. There is a convenience store at the intersection of Brushy Branch Rd and hwy. 55. When we were in line, there were many people packing in cases of beer and water. It is certainly doable. You could set up camp, and then head out to the store and load up with provisions.
there are two of us and we are both planning on bringing a case of bottled water each. you know those 1 liter bottles. do you think that will be enough water or should we consider bringing more? keep in mind we are flying and there are limitations.
