My boyfriend and I did the camping thing last year and discovered that camping is not my thing. So, we have a hotel this year and are doing the day parking. I'm just wondering if anybody has advice as to the best times to come and go. We were planning on getting to the hotel on Thursday but waiting until Friday to actually go into Bonnaroo. Also, we are thinking that we will spend most of the days sleeping and most of the nights onsite. Any suggestions?
Friday is the only day to worry about getting in and out easily. I'm doing the hotel thing this year too and we plan to leave the Tullahoma Executive Inn (which is about 11 miles from Bonnaroo) about 6am to get in by noon. That may be overkill, but probably not.
Last three years, Saturday and Sunday were easy to get in and out of the place, with mostly no waits at all (certainly not like the first time in).
After being forced to stay at a hotel or go to the ER last year, I learned a bit about this whole roo commute.
don't even try getting in thursday. just forget it. friday, you need to leave your hotel VERY early. I mean, we tried getting in before noon, leaving the executive inn at 9am. Yeah... right.
We had to pay to park in some lady's front yard and then walk the 2 miles to roo. not fun
day parking was converted into camping. maybe they'll change that this year? i'm staying at the KOA, so hopefully the logistics work out better.

Hi,
I had to come out of lurk mode to address this. Three years ago my husband and I did the hotel thing. (I couldn't imagine no shower for three days)
We got into line to park on Friday morning and we did not know where day parking was. We asked for help and the young man parking us said "park here... like everyone else is" So.... we parked. As I watched people around me setting up their stuff I started to realize that we were in the "regular" camping area. By luck, I realized this soon enough to move our vehicle to a place where we could get out. Thank God people around us were kind because us moving our car meant they had to take down tents, tarps, etc. We left after watching The Machine and the next day found the day parking area. It was quite a walk but much better than almost being stuck in the camping area with no gear, hardly any money, no clothes etc. fr the three days.
The moral of the story... be sure that you can get in and out of the place you park.
Oh yeah, one side note... last year we did VIP and we are doing the same this year. Never want to take that chance again.
Had a great time both years and looking forward to another great time. Can't wait for "The Word"... love those guys!
To all who have been posting, I really enjoy the conversation and the pleasant community spirit here. You guys are great!
friday it took us forever to get through traffic... THEN we had to park in a lady's front yard for 5 bucks... THEN we had to walk a good mile and a half to the roo campground.
so, i guess all in all it took about 3 hours
maybe they'll actually have enough space for the campers this year and wont make say parking into makeshift campgrounds.
I think we'll stick with my original plan of leaving Tullahoma @ 6am Friday. 6 hours should leave us some wiggle room for getting in before the start of the morning shows (hopefully).
