Two things
1) Contributing to this thread was the main reason I finally joined after an on again/off again relationship with lurking the board
2) I’m not caught up yet so I haven’t read anything above this post. But I wanted to say that humans are “ g-g-g-good sometimes and you should give them the b-b-b-benefit of the d-d-d-doubt” and “women in $400 yoga pants are refusing to vaccinate their children” are two of my favourite lines so far this season.
I guess that was three things technically. Back to watching.
Today on the Ezra Klein Show: Mike Schur and Pam Hieronymi. Mike Schur is Mike Schur, Pam Hieronymi is a professor at UCLA and was the first moral philosophy expert he reached out to when developing The Good Place.
About an hour and forty five minute talk, I'm only a half hour in but it's great so far. Great for Good Place fans or just fans of great podcasts.
Not sure how many people listen to Ezra Klein but he's my current favorite media personality. At his core he's a policy wonk but more generally he is a very curious and thoughtful person. He has all kinds of people on, usually more of the "expert" variety but occasionally someone from entertainment and even more occasionally a politician. I think he is a great interviewer and I always learn something.
sorry for the double post just wanted to make sure Good Place fans saw this.
well friends, we made it. i'm not prepared to leave this show behind, it really is something special. wearing the eleanor& chidi& tahani& jason tshirt that my inforoo secret santa made me last year while i inevitably sob on the couch all night.

Don't miss the live thing with Seth meters and the cast after the episode ends.
I'm sad to see it go so soon but I'm happy to see it go out on top of it's game. Such a good show

assuming you meant Meyers, and good looking out didn't know that was a thing.

I loved the first two seasons of the show, but lost track of it somewhere along the way. Does it seem like it ends in a satisfying way? Should I get caught up?

I was kind of getting bored with this season because every episode felt more like a logistical hurdle to get to its conclusion....but goddamn, what an ending.

Perfect ending as far as I’m concerned. Cried a few times, laughed a few times. Just lovely. I’m sorry it’s over but I’m glad they didn’t overstretch it.
Plus I have a season and a half of Schitt’s Creek to catch up on now. So that helps.
it's the best ending to a show since at least breaking bad. maybe better.
i think it's interesting and appropriate that a show so strongly rooted in Western philosophy closed the series out with a finale heavily influenced by Eastern philosophy.
i'm assuming the wave metaphor is one used repeatedly throughout various Buddhist teachings, but here is a quote from Thich Nhat Hanh's "The Heart of The Buddha's Teachings" that sounds extremely similar to Chidi's line in the show:
When we look at the ocean, we see that each wave has a beginning and an end. A wave can be compared with other waves, and we can call it more or less beautiful, higher or lower, longer lasting or less long lasting. But if we look more deeply, we see that a wave is made of water. While living the life of a wave, it also lives the life of water. It would be sad if the wave did not know that it is water. It would think, 'Some day, I will have to die. This period of time is my life span, and when I arrive at the shore, I will return to nonbeing.' These notions will cause the wave fear and anguish. We have to help it remove the notions of self, person, living being, and life span if we want the wave to be free and happy.
Watched the last two seasons over the past couple weeks since it was only a matter of time before it was spoiled, and man was the last season good. I felt it dragged a bit in S3 but everyone talking about the ending is spot-on.
