I've got two fests to draw from in SXSW and Hangout. In less than a week Ill be doing a Umphreys > Gorillaz (w Vince Staples) > Lupe Fiasco run with ne215 which I assume all 3 should end up as best of the year sets. The Fall Fest run will probably bump almost all of these off the list.

I was going to go ahead and put the Indy show of Flaming Lips/Mac on my list because I know that's about to be an easy contender for show of the year, I cannot wait

The rest of the list could be any order, but front row for Nick Cave has to be #1. There's nothing quite like having Cave scream the lyrics to Stagger Lee in your face, bring you in for a hug during Higgs Boson Blues and witness him literally pounce on two older dudes sitting down in the second row. They were absolutely thrilled and kept yelling at him to do it again haha
1. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Bosch Center, Boston 2. Nicolas Jaar - Coachella Weekend 2 3. Erykah Badu - House of Blues, Boston 4. Moderat - Coachella Weekend 2 5. Radiohead - Coachella Weekend 2 6. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Webster Hall (New York, 2 nights), Royale (Boston), Coachella Weekend 2 7. Pond - The Echo (LA), Coachella Weekend 2, The Sinclair (Boston) 8. Feist - Sanders Theater, Boston 9. Devendra Banhart - Port City Music Hall (Maine), Coachella Weekend 2 10. Ryan Adams / Jenny Lewis - Blue Hills Pavilion, Boston
Honorable mentions: The Avalanches - Coachella Weekend 2 (Since I Left You at Coachella while the sun set might be my favorite moment of the year) Laura Marling - Paradise, Boston Air - Royale Boston and Gov Ball Spoon Blue Hills Pavillion, Boston The clusterfuck that was Kendrick vs. Justice vs. New Order at Coachella (around 30-40 min of each). I'd imagine they'd each have their own spot on the list if I saw full sets.
Panorama definitely gonna take up a few spots after this weekend!
1. Roger Waters, Staples Center 2. Moderat @ Coachella 3. Motor City Drum Ensemble @ FYF 4. Radiohead @ Coachella 5. Speedy J @ some Warehouse 6. Kendrick Lamar @ Coachella 7. Avalanches @ Coachella 16. Solomun @ Coachella 17. Frank Ocean @ FYF
Unless I win free tickets to a show or two, I'm basically done with concerts for the year. I know a lot of people here are going to D4N and those shows will probably end up on some lists, but I figured I'd put mine up now.
1.) Justice at Lollapalooza - The last set of the weekend, and it was a non stop dance party. Justice was one of the first electronic groups I ever listened to (even though that was only a couple of years ago), and I was ecstatic when it was announced they'd be there. An added bonus, one of my best friends and his girlfriend were able to come down for the weekend before he moved out west the next week for his job, and it was our last night together. Our group was double fisting bottles of wine, and the crowd was sparse so we had a lot of room to move. We stayed up and talked about this set for a couple of hours over Settlers of Catan, the perfect end to the weekend. I added a video I took.
2.) Gorillaz in Chicago - It was the first show of their US tour, and I wasn't really sure who all would be a guest and what the setlist would be like. Went with most of the group that went to Lolla (including my friend that moved away), and we had a fun time pre-gaming while playing euchre. I was a little disappointed it was one of the only stops that Vince Staples and Danny Brown wouldn't be opening for them, but all was okay by me when Vince came out at the beginning to do Ascension (apparently my face lit up and my grin was ear to ear). We didn't get Feel Good Inc, but I was beyond satisfied with the setlist and guests that we got. I hope I don't have to wait too long to see them again.
3.) Sigur Ros in Chicago - I did a fairly long write up about this show. I'll spoil it in case someone wants to read it again for some reason.
So this weekend I took my girlfriend to Sigur Ros. The only songs I knew by them were Olsen Olsen and Festival, and then some other songs on their top songs for Spotify. Plus I watched a couple of videos online. Everything I saw made it seem like it'd be a nice peaceful concert, which is something my girlfriend would really enjoy so I said hey I bought the cheapest tickets to this band I've read about and you're going. We got there, and I'm not sure if it didn't sell well or what, but they upgraded our tickets down a couple of floors in the theatre, so it started off nice.
Before we went, we ate a lot of corn, as I figured the concert would be nice and peaceful and relaxing. And that's exactly how the first two songs started, nice and calm. Then the third and fourth songs came, which looks like there were Glósóli and E-Bow according to the setlist. Holy fucking shit. I was not expecting anything that loud and intense, we both looked at each other with our jaws on the floor in amazement. My heart was beating so fast (probably because of the corn) and I was like this wasn't what I expected, I'm sorry. But she was like Perd I love this, oh my god. I felt like such a noob the whole time, people around us were going as nuts as I've ever heard a crowd just based off the first couple of notes and they could tell what song was being played and start clapping and hollering, and I was just thinking oh jeeze it's happening again. Don't even get me started on the lights/visuals. Normally I can handle strobe lights, but those were so intense I had to shut my eyes for a couple of seconds multiple times (damn corn). At the intermission I jokingly looked at her and said so have you had enough, should we go? And she laughed and said hell no, we're staying to the end. The concert was amazing. This band is amazing. I need to actually listen to them, and I definitely will be seeing them if I ever get the chance again. I just can't believe how they could make such beautiful and intense sounds in the same concert with only three people on stage. At the end of the concert I had to stay seated for a couple of minutes because my heart was racing and I couldn't believe what I just witnessed. I'm not sure if I ever clapped as loud as I did when they came out to take their bows. Holy moly
4.) LCD Soundsystem in Chicago (night 3) - I'm sure everyone here has seen LCD this year, and if not most likely the year before. They're great live, I know it, you all know it. Awesome show, just wish they would've played more new songs (Tonite kicks ass, but I was hoping for more than that, American Dream, Call The Police, and Oh Baby). I'm going to be so jealous of the people who get Other Voices and how do you sleep? first.
5.) The xx in Milwaukee - Saw this one with the Lolla crew, and we got pretty cheap tickets too. The new album sounded great live, definitely wasn't expecting Say Something Loving to work as well as it did as the opener but it was fantastic. Apparently a lot of people talked during this show, I couldn't notice because I had my ear plugs in. Pre gamed a little too long and missed Sampha as the opener unfortunately.
6.) Foo Fighters in Chicago - A secret Lolla aftershow, I wasn't even a huge FF fan before but I really like their hits and thought Run was a really fun new song, so I figured I'd give buying tickets a shot since it's not like I wanted to see The Killers or Blink 182 at Lolla anyway, and the venue is very close to my apartment. I got the tickets, left Lolla after RTJ, and was able to get 2nd row in the middle. They played the longest show they've ever played and it rocked the whole time. I have a newfound appreciation for Dave and Co. Perry Farrell came out and sounded great in the middle too. The covers they did were fun, and it was really surreal to see them in such a close environment with some of their biggest fans. I added a picture and I video I took in the spoiler.
7.) Porter Robinson at Lollapalooza - I love Porter and this was my first time seeing his solo show. Super bummed his show got shut down halfway through, I was having so much fun dancing in the rain. I need to see him again to make up for this set.
8.) Deadmau5 vs Eric Prydz at North Coast Fest - Got some pretty cheap tickets since this may not have sold well. I've seen mau5 before but haven't seen Eric, and it was a fun mashup of their hits. Ate a little too much corn and became a zombie so I couldn't really dance, but the the sound was great and the visuals were awesome too.
9.) Chance The Rapper at Lollapalooza - I liked his most recent album, and I didn't have a problem with how preachy some people thought his show may have been. The energy was great, and it felt like everyone at Lolla was at his show. Wish he would've brought some more Chicago friends other than just Vic Mensa, but it was his time to shine so I understand. I thought it was funny he had his own guest list, but we were in Chicago so it makes sense.
10.) Run The Jewels at Lollapalooza - Pretty sure everyone here has seen them at some point too. This way my first full proper show. My girlfriend is a huge RTJ fan so it was fun for us to be alone and experience it together. A not so fun story, we got there pretty early to get a good spot since there was nothing else playing before that we wanted to see. We were on the inside rail in the middle, and about 10 minutes before the show started, a bunch of guys came out with boxes of blue RTJ bandanas to pass out, didn't know if they were security or people for RTJ. They go up and down the aisle passing out bandanas to everyone on the rail and a throw a couple out to people not on the rail, and they had a lot of boxes so it seemed like basically everyone could get one. Well, when they came up to us for some reason the guy turned around and started giving them out on the other side even though there was someone already passing them out over there. My girlfriend made eye contact with him when he eventually looked over in our direction again and says he can we get some you skipped us. And he looks up for a second, laughs and then says no, and continues passing them out. Like wtf, she didn't like scream or anything, she's a soft spoken girl and politely asked. So everyone got one besides us because some fat fuck 6'4" bearded douche decided he was being funny. I was upset at the time, but my girlfriend gets annoyed by it even today. They were one of her favorite groups on the whole lineup and didn't want any of the shirts they were selling because they were ugly or something (personal problem I guess) but just wanted some small trinket to have.

Gonna wait until I finish my three December events before putting out my updated top list, curious if there will be major changes.
I'm assuming DfN will get at least 3 in my top 10. If I end up doing the NP Folk Fest Hurricane benefit I could see Yim Yames making it. Neon Indian and Ghostland Observatory would be my last two shows of the year, but I'd be surprised if they crack 10.
Some combination of Arab Strap, Arcade Fire, ATCQ, Gorillaz, Justice, Lady Gaga, PJ Harvey, Run the Jewels, Solange, Slowdive, and The xx. honorable mention to finally going to a Derrick Carter DJ set. also honorable mention to cupcakke at charli xcx's lollapalooza set.
