I just went through all the stuff I've liked that has come out this year and to figure out my rough top 25 as of today, this is what I'm coming up with:
25. Missing Link EP - Nick Murphy (only 25 because it's an EP, but it is one of my absolute favorite releases this year. Forget About Me is an amazing song) 24. My top ones are FJM, DJ Seinfeld, Sampha, Kendrick, LCD, Bicep, Four Tet. Also would throw Rhapsody, Playboi Carti, HNDRXX, Carl Craig's Versus, Octo Octa. Forgetting some but this is a short list.
In no order: Tyler, Kendrick, St. Vincent, BROCKHAMPTON, Aminé, The National, MUTEMATH, Zola Jesus. I slept on Planetarium and only listened to it once, and haven't finished listening to Bjork yet but those will probably be up there. My favorite "new to me" albums though are High Violet and The Downward Spiral; the former would be in my top twenty for sure. Time to get a'listenin and a'listin.
5.5/four tet, daphni b2b floating points, avalon emerson 5.12/neil young 5.19/mannequin pussy 5.21/serpentwithfeet 5.25/hozier 6.12-16/bonnaroo 6.28/goose 6.29/goose 9.17/the national + the war on drugs 9.23/sigur ros 9.27-29/making time 10.17/air
Finally got 100 done. Now I spend the next 4 weeks trying to make that 50.
12 metal 8 hip hop 3 pop 25 folk 2 country 49 indie-rock/pop 1 tribute
This is gonna be rough.
No electronic or experimental?
Counted inside the indie. I am bummed about the lack of jazz this year though. Either it was an off year or I couldn’t find anything I liked. Probably the latter more than the former though. I just don’t have the time these days to find new stuff.

Oh, that explains 49 albums then.
This is the first year I have tried to listen to most of the albums that are being released. I am tired though (and I'm sure there are plenty of other good stuff I'm missing), and don't know how I'm going to do this list. Gotta start working on it.

Idk where to put soundtracks for motion pictures but Dean Hurley (idk if I can count him in), Hans Zimmer (Dunkirk) and Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein (Stranger Things) are litteraly the best things I've heard this year in that category. garageland why can't you make a top 100, then? Out of 205 records, 75 got a 7 or more in my google docs.. so that's gonna be brutal choosing lmao + I still need to catch up on some and december might still have something up it's sleeve

Throw those scores in anywhere you deem them worthy on your list.
I'm currently working with a list of 150, but it's been growing not shrinking. I've listened to more new music this year than any other year in my life by a longshot

same, no question. maybe not 'new/never heard before' artists, but 100% new albums within the month they are released. i kind of tried to throw together a top 10 so i could see what vinyls i'd want to buy from this year, but theres just so many to do a huge list justice. I put together a playlist from songs/singles from this year, 1 per artist release, and there's close to 200 and i definitely forgot/left people off.

Same thing, last year I had 123 albums, now 205 lmao.. Safe to say Sampha, Tyler The Creator , Amenra and Mount Eerie are my top 4

I’m sure I’ll post one soon. I still need to let this Neil Young sink in before I get all willy-nilly with albums I like.
@jonesjupiter that's an almost perfect list but no love for Tyler? I thought that was stronger than all other hip-hop except for Kendrick and Vince
I let that one get lost in the shuffle and only revisited it after the Melt lineup came out. With the little time I spent with it I could already tell it was his best yet.
