I convinced her to at least watch the Lemonade movie. We'll definitely watch it together before Friday.
She does know the Lemonade movie is the entire album (sans Formation), right?
Yup. She has this thing where she doesn't like to listen to new music from an artist she likes for a while that I don't understand at all, but I've managed to sway her with some help from you fine folk.

I like the album, a lot. But, one glaring fault is an album supposedly mostly devoted to telling it from the woman (more specifically, the black woman) perspective, where are the female collabs? I would have loved to hear some prominent female artists on this (hey, Santigold, how about sister Solange, hell, Rhiannon Giddens could have shot this album to the moon with Bey on Daddy Lessons). The Weeknd, Kendrick, Jack White: They're all great. But, c'mon! I want to hear some other women here, if you're aiming to bring a strong feminist message along with everything else.

That would've been nice! My first thought is that maybe she brought in male artists for the parts she can't sing herself?
Also, JAMES BLAKE. I didn't look at the collabs/track listing before my first listen and thought I had died and gone to heaven hearing James Blake on a Beyonce album.
I still don't think it's about Jay-Z... I think she just created an album about a woman's perspective of overcoming the discovery of her man cheating on her. It's probably a hodgepodge of her parents, her own history, and women in general. On the flip-side... Solange sure was throwing some mean kicks in that elevator, so I may be wrong.

I was kinda bummed there wasn't a Nicki Minaj feature, they work so so well together.
Just watched Lemonade. I may be a little biased since almost that whole damn thing was filmed either here in New Orleans or in other areas of Louisiana, but that was amazing. Holy shit.

Am I the only one who would find it hilarious if Jay Z didn't do anything since everyone think the album is all about him?
I've been saying since I saw the NYT review of the album yesterday that I think it's an incredibly passive-aggressive (and perhaps unintentional) way of diminishing Beyonce's talents as a songwriter to presume that the album is entirely or almost entirely biographical. It's such a surface level reading of the album to take it in that direction. She's as capable as anyone, if not more, of telling a story with her words that isn't her own.

C'mon. Yeah it's possible the album isn't about Jay-Z at all but people think it may be about them because it fits her life (the little we know about it anyways) perfectly. If it's not about Jay it's a calculated move to make everyone think it is.

Actually I'm pretty sure it means Beyoncé and Jack White are getting married.
How integral is watching Lemonade as opposed to just listening to it?
I imagine that the album probably can stand alone without having to watch it, but Lemonade's visuals are so so good. It's not a matter of "can I appreciate the album without the visuals" as much as it's "watch the visuals because it is amazing art"
I listened to the album first. Then I saw the HBO special. The visuals enhanced my enjoyment of the album 100%. It made me realize that it is so much more than just a bunch of songs about a man doing a woman wrong.
