I feel like I've taken this month the most seriously this year, probably because it's been the strongest so far. I have my final list down to the top six, just trying to finalize the order. I should be done by this afternoon.
Isn't it weird that this kind of stuff means so much to me/us?
Anyone know where I can listen to AMSP legit? I know it's not on Spotify.
Apple Music.
Also, my vote
HMs: Chance The Rapper - Coloring Book Day of the Dead James Blake - The Colour In Anything Kaytranada - 99.9% Twin Peaks - Down In Heaven Seratones - Get Gone Anohni - Hopelessness

Great month all around.
my vote as well. HM: Chance the Rapper Day of the Dead Thrice Flume
I haven't had a chance to listen to Radiohead nor James Blake yet, so I'm not voting this month.
Enjoyed Kaytranada, but not enough to give it an AotM nod, definitely HM worthy though.
And didn't realize Pantha du Prince put out an album as well, will need to give that a listen too.
Just been all around slacking on new music.
Yeah. I really have to listen to Pantha and Twin Peaks before I can vote with confidence. If I can before Friday, I'll put out a vote but will skip this month if I can't.
James Blake has great songs but is too long. Weird complaint for an album is that they gave me too much music. But it definitely sags in the middle. Chance I've already said that it could be better but the highs are high. Kaytranada Death Grips
Kaytranada - 99.9% This album couldn't be anymore up my alley. Hip-hop, electronic, and super production-oriented. It's just so goddamn fun and I can't stop biking to it. My appreciation for the following honorable mentions will likely be far different as the year goes on. HM: Radiohead Chance Operators
1. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool I knew this album would win before it was ever even announced, but I'm glad it truly earned this vote. It's just beautiful. 2. Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman I can be a sucker for well produced female vocalist pop. Typically, I lean towards more dream pop, synth pop, or art pop type stuff, but this is straight up pop. But really, really well produced. And her voice is great, of course. 3. Kaytranada - 99.9% It's not perfect but it's a smooth album to dance and chill to. 4. James Blake - The Colour in Anything If this album was about 6 songs shorter, it could be very close to Radiohead. But those six or so songs really just draw out the album and make it very difficult to listen all at once. The songs that really hit for me are amazing, but the ones that don't are miserable. 5. Jessy Lanza - Oh No Here is my synch pop itch getting scratched. Enjoyable stuff.
Edit: I feel like I should also throw in my other honorable mentions.
Chance the Rapper - Coloring Book Holy Fuck - Congrats Gold Panda - Good Luck and Do Your Best Big Thief - Masterpiece

I listened to A Moon Shaped Pool while walking in the park yesterday and took in all the nuances. Is was my first listen with earbuds. I kinda want to change my vote now. The string arrangements are so good.
2. Teens of Denial - Car Seat Headrest (this one snuck into 2nd place just in the past 48 hours. Wow. What a fucking good album. And it was rather unexpected, my love for it, which gives the album a slight edge over my #3 and 4, which I'd been excited about ahead of time and anticipating greatness.) 3. Coloring Book - Chance (some people have expressed disappointment with this album, but I really really enjoy it and have returned to it quite a bit in the past few weeks) 4. Radiohead - very beautiful but so far not really sticking with me, not as a cohesive album anyway; there are a few select tracks I have revisited a lot 5. Kaytranada 6. Ariana Grande
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
CoS put Chance as the best album of the year so far. I like a lot of tracks on there but it isn't even the second best album of May.
Its a good album, dont get me wrong, but it seems like people are getting a little carried away with it. I saw a guy on twitter say that it might be his favorite album of all-time. I mean really? It hasnt even been out a month yet.

Honestly, I think Coloring Book is excellent. I'm just really not a fan of absurd over-use of high hats and those ayyy rhythmic triplets a la Young Thug, Future, etc. Mixtape and parts of Smoke Break make that album drop significantly in my mind. I love the entire rest of that album. I don't even really mind the Bieb. Also Same Drugs, All Night, No Problem and Blessings are all excellent. I just have no interest in that ever-present trap rap.

Mixtape is probably the worst Chance/Chance-featured song I've heard, but I'm surprised you don't like Smoke Break. It uses the hihat rolls and such and Future sounds like Future on it, but I still think it's a pretty decent song.

I like the message coming thru on Smoke Break, and I do enjoy parts of it, but Future kinda fucks with it for me. But yeah, Mixtape is straight-up bad.

I like it. It's meant to be a fun song, and it is. One of Chance's catchiest. Thugger and Yachty have decent guest spots on it.
