This year will be my first Bonnaroo, a friend (who went last year) and I were volunteering and going together, but now my friend has backed out at the last minute (I'm leaving exactly a week from today) and left me all by myself. I don't even have a tent now (he was bringing the tent) and I have no camping experience whatsoever in my life. No idea how I would even set up a tent or anything. I really don't know what to expect either when I arrive as a volunteer on Tuesday, it seems like volunteer camping is for those with a car. I'm taking a bus to Tennessee so I will not have a car.
I'm also kind of bummed about having to go by myself.

Wal-Mart tent is cheap and very simple to setup. Go get one now and practice a few times. There are alot of folks on the board that volunteer as well and I am sure are willing to get to know ya and lend a hand. Make sure you have some scratch for food, stay positive, and have a blast Oh yea, drink water...lots of water.

Don't worry, you're still going to have an amazing time. Going to Bonnaroo alone can be intimidating at first, but it is also extremely liberating and rewarding. It's actually kind of nice, not having to worry about anyone else, or missing a show because you want to stick with someone going to another show. Bonnaroo is what you make it, and you can make it into a fantastic time.
Where city is your bus going to? That might be your biggest hurdle, especially since you're getting there early on Tuesday for volunteer. Hopefully someone else has some advice there.
If you need help setting up your tent, don't be afraid to ask your neighbors. They're there to have a good time too, and more then likely, will be willing to help you out. There's been numerous times when I've either helped someone, or they've helped me.

Was going to suggest this - he owes you a favor, I'd say! Super lame that he bailed But as others have said, you'll still have a blast going solo, and by going as a volunteer, you'll get an extra day in to make some friends and get to know the area, etc.

The bus is going to Manchester, so I'll have to take a cab I guess to the high school to check in, then maybe a cab to the camp site. But it seems like volunteer camping is for people with cars so I don't know how this is gonna work out. And my friend's away right now so I can't get his tent.

Can you camp in non-tent only without a car? I also kinda feel like someone might just steal my stuff with no way to lock it up.

I don't know if it's any different, but I'm a Clean Vibes volunteer. Do you think I will have time to move to tent-only? It seems like we don't get the chance to go until Thursday.

I don't think you can camp in normal GA without a car. But I think when you get there early for volunteers, they have you in a separate area. I doubt it would be an issue then. When the festival actually starts, follow the above suggestion and move your stuff to Tent Only. Just get to know your neighbors, and people sort of look out for each other. Theft is certainly a possibility, but I believe it to be a very low one. Thankfully I've never had it happen to me, and hopefully it stays that way. The better you get to know your neighbors, the less chance of it happening imo. When they see someone in your stuff you isn't you, they can call them out immediately.

I think you will make friends in the days before you tent only opens and it is really just up to you. If you feel comfortable and like where you are at..stay.. but tent only is by far the most convenient location. Personally I hunker down out in volunteer camping and just try to set up like I will be there for a week, because I will. There seems to be a large number of people on Inforoo who make an "Inforoo section" of tent only... should be pretty easy to make friends there? It would definitely make it hard to miss the brunch as well!
Damn, Sorry to hear that :/ The amazing thing about Bonnaroo is that you go alone but leave with a lifetime of friendships! Don't worry, you'll make friends and people will help! Don't be afraid to ask for help. Anyone not willing to help at roo is not following the code. Good luck to you!
Man. I hate to hear the situation. You may also want to contact clean vibes and tell them about your vehicle situation. I do believe there are shuttles from the high school. I volunteer for a vendor so I camp in the vendor area. It's right next to volunteer. As for moving, they lock pod 1 until midnight or so on Wednesday so we can't get to tent only. Plus you may have to move back after the show as I believe volunteers stay longer. I have personally seen many volunteers camping without a vehicle.
Anyways a few other notes. 1, find easzman here on inforoo. He is a volunteer supervisor I believe. Or was last year. He can help point you in the right direction. I'll be on the farm starting Wednesday afternoon and have space and shade to spare.
I also got bailed on this year. But it's all good. I'll be trucking over to tent only with a tent and 2 canopies. And I will happily be creeping around Camp Inforoo. I have no doubt I'll have a ton of new friends before I fall asleep Wednesday night, some of whom already feel like friends on these very forums.
