Cowboy fans typically are to fan crazy they don't like to see whats right in front of them, I didn't think i said anything that was THAT crazy. We just got done with 3 consecutive 8-8 seasons and went 12-4 last year with what most perceived was a worse team than they had the previous 3 years. I don't think most logical fans are calling for a Super Bowl but we are pretty excited about the future of this team and rightfully so. But hey, hate away.
I mean, I thought this was a bit much: "The Cowboys basically got 3 chances at a 1st round selection and all 3 are going to help contribute to another NFC East Championship. " Plus, expecting what you expect out of your draft class is a sure fire way to be disappointed. I loved Jones, but not as an immediate starter. Gregory is a nut case, and went from 260 to 235 in 2 years, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of the league in 3 years with a cocaine issue, and Collins is probably going to be played out of position. I think you guys drafted well, but there's always the possibility of it blowing up in your face. You guys had a huge risk/reward draft, and I wouldn't bank on it all going perfectly right away.
-The entire division improved -You guys still have a pretty limited roster in many areas, and I'm not exactly convinced your coaching staff knows what it's doing outside of Marinelli -Your offensive line isn't as amazing as the media likes to tell you it is. It's really good, but you guys lack athleticism, which translates to issues pass blocking, and the Eagles shut down your run game twice. Again it's great, but Emmitt Smith and D-Mac aren't doing what Murray did last year. -You guys got incredibly lucky with injuries in the second half of the season -Romo's back is toast. Those aren't injuries that just get better. He'll be having these issues for the rest of his life. -You don't really have anyone who can cover anyone with any consistency, and passing is important.
I mean, I think you guys are 10-12 win team on paper again, but your depth is just awful, so if anyone important goes down, you're in deep poop. I think the scenario of Romo getting hurt, and the defense coming back to earth is entirely plausible, and probably even likely.
And as for past this year...
-You have more psycho's on your team than the rest of the league combined. And the ringleader of the circus has wanted to be the highest paid player at his position for 2 years. -You're QB might have the worst, most back-loaded contract in the history of the NFL. Combining that with the fact that he's 33, and has a back that's falling apart, I'd say that's not too good. This is the type of thing that can set a team back 5-7 years. -You have 6 offensive linemen who all think they're the best at what they do. Only 1 of them is signed to legitimate contract. Good luck trying to keep that together when Dez wants 15 mil, and Romo is on the books for 25 (whether he can play anymore or not) -You still have significant work to do on the defensive side of the ball.
So like I said, trying to figure all of this out in 2 years has been tried before, and it never works. You guys have an extremely small window to make things happen here, and if it doesn't work, I think things could get ugly.
But we DID get 3 players with 1st round grades on them, there is no doubting that. How expecting those 3 guys to contribute in the near future, is the wrong way to go about it, makes zero sense to me. How does anyone then end up excited about their draft haul? Collins really isn't a risk/reward player, he had some unfortunate shit not go his way and people were scared to touch another "Aaron Hernandez" but the second he cleared of all charges and able to sign anywhere, every team came calling but he chose the best situation for him, so he must like the "psychotic" culture the Cowboys have in that locker room. The entire division improved? I would say the eagles had a sub par draft and got worse in the off-season but hey that's just Shady McCoys and I's opinion. The offensive line isn't as good as the media makes it out to be? And the lack of athleticism hurt our passing game? You must have not watched much Cowboys football then and thats ok, but I can assure you athleticism on the line is not our issue. The simple fact that we just had a guy win the rushing title who only cracked 1000 yards once prior, and not only that but the Cowboys lead the league in rushing yards before contact so i don't know how that doesn't help my case. And issues protecting the qb? Romo was sacked less this past year than he has ever been so if they're going to have issues due to the lack of athleticism it didn't really show last year. Protection schemes is one thing, but athleticism...silly. LOL. All i heard prior to last season was how Romo was "toast" his back is "done" blah blah blah and other than the first game of the season his back was a non issue but i understand the age/contract concern but what team doesn't have a bad contract they're dealing with. We got incredibly lucky with injuries in the second half of the season? How about the first half when we lost all of our starting Lbs? I guess that doesn't count? Do we need better coverage Dbs? Yes, but we tried addressing that with the draft and Carr finally started playing to his contract the last few games of the year, he shut down Jordy Nelson in that divisional playoff game, so heres looking to next year. The defense coming back to earth? They played horrible last year and won despite them and only improved that this off-season so barring injuries and player development, that area also should be improved.
More psychos on this team than any other? WHAT, WHO?! Ring leader of the circus? Now im just done. Everything with you is if this doesn't happen, then things could turn ugly. No shit. That can be the case for every single team. lol. And having 5 guys be the best at their respective positions seems like a good problem to have if you are running a team. And as far as keeping them together, most are under contract for the next 3-4 years but again it could turn ugly...
I wish I had the time right now to go through all of this, because it is an impressively well thought out and mostly correct post for a team that isn't your own. I do want to say that 99% of Cowboys fans don't understand just how bad that contract is. Like it's actually difficult to wrap my head around any scenario that would allow us to keep him on the books next year.
I do think that you, along with everyone else in sports media, are overemphasizing the RB situation the Cowboys have in place. What kept Murray on the field all the time was his pass protection relative to Randle and Dunbar. We needed Murray on the field in 3rd downs, because the other guys would get Tony killed. Enter McFadden, you may be surprised to hear this, but he rated out as a top 5 RB in pass pro last year protecting a rookie with a middle of the road line. Now that we have our third down back it opens up Randle and Dunbar to be rotate RB duties behind a line that gave Murray a league best 1000 yards before contact.
Well you know what they say, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer . I may or may not have a football obsession that dates back to my elementary school years though.
It's not so much that I think the RB position is overly important in Dallas, it's a combination of a few things:
- As I've said, I think that O-line is slightly overrated. They came back to earth by the end of last year, and Murray's extremely underrated vision made them look fantastic at times when there really wasn't much there. - I think D-Mac is terrible, and might have some of the worst vision at the position. His knees also just don't give him that 2nd and 3rd gear that he needed to overcome this back in the day. - Murray has been extremely underrated for years. 2 years ago, when your line was rather terrible, he still averaged 5.5 yards per carry. He's been a beast since college.
And as for that Eagles jab up there, we'll just have to wait and see. We've each won once in the past 2 years and I'd say we improved more this offseason than you guys have, and injuries aside, we weren't too far apart last year. If Bradford stays healthy, I think we win the division this year. If he goes down, it'll be between you and the Giants, but I wouldn't sleep on them either. I think it's easy to forget that we won 10 games last year with a rash of offensive line injuries (ya know, that previous "best line in the NFL") and Mark Sanchez at QB with a bum shoulder.
How does losing Shady, Maclin, & and even Foles make yall better? I hope Riley Cooper can turn into a #2 WR because if not....it could turn ugly.
You better hope Bradford isnt done or get hurt because, lets face it, he gets hurt ALL of the time...or it could get ugly.

This is super homerific post, so I won't go into too much depth but here you go:
- Expect nothing out of your draft in the first 1-2 years. Nothing. That's football 101. The answer to your question is, you don't get excited about your draft. You probably got real pumped when the team draft Mo Claiborne. - Collins is a mauler, just like the rest of your line. They're athletic for their size, but showed real issues with explosiveness on the LOS. - The Eagles absolutely added more talent to their roster. There's really no argument to be had there. We'll see how it translates, but raw talent? It's not even close. - The entire division improved, absolutely. Your denial towards this fact is typical of Cowboys fans though. - I have to strongly, and I mean STRONGLY encourage never, ever agreeing with anything that comes out of Lesean McCoy's mouth. - I've already told you your line is very good, but you've clearly bought what the team and media is selling, so I won't go any further. - Yes, you got incredibly lucky with injuries in the second half of the year. Discussing LB injuries in the beginning of the year doesn't change that... Jesus. - You don't address holes in the draft. Your DB's are weak. - As horrible as they played defensively, they're actually much worse. They were protected by the fact that they saw the field less than almost any other D last year. - Yeah, your team is made up of psycho's and D bags, but if you'd like to ignore how terrible they are as human beings to feel better about your football team, that's cool. - Obviously, there are always scenarios that lead to a bad season, but if you don't see how serious your particular situation is, than idk what to tell you.
But hey, if you and your impeccable roster want to accept the pre-season division championship, go for it. Get some shirts made. Throw a party.
Well you know what they say, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer . I may or may not have a football obsession that dates back to my elementary school years though.

1 - Way to cherry pick the player's we lost and conveniently gloss over the 50 million dollars we spent on new players. Also, you've conveniently overlooked how the old and new players fit into the scheme. 2 - You are correct, which is why I don't make ridiculous claims like yours. Also, Bradford doesn't get hurt "all the time". You're free to look up his injuries, their likely causes, and how he performed while not injured though. Our QB's are equally injury prone I'd say, but yours is 33, and you can't surgically repair a person spine.
All those spinal surgeons are probably kicking themselves for going to med school, then.
You can certainly have surgery on it, but I meant repair in the sense that you fully recover from the injury, and even have the ability to come back stronger. I've never seen anyone completely come back from what Romo is dealing with, while multiple players have recently shown that ACL injuries aren't what they used to be. I probably should have explained, but I didn't really think it mattered.

WR really isn't a point of weakness for them at all. Cooper will probably be #3 wideout behind Mathews and Agholor by midseason. Do they still have Sproles? Either way, there's no shortage of weapons. It's pretty crazy to see all the talent they've added. Kiko Alonso, Demarco, etc. I mean Ryan Mathews is your back-up? That's pretty insane. Say what you will about Mathews' career and injury history so far but he's definitely worthy of being a #1 back somewhere else.

Exactly, and I think Huff surprises some people this year. He would have been a much bigger part of the offense if he didn't struggle with fumbles last year. He runs like a pissed off teenager when he has the ball in his hands. I saw him put some guys in the ground last year that really left me surprised. There's also Ertz on offense, and the large amount of players we added on defense.

You've missed almost every point I've tried to make, and the majority of this is just your usual mindless Cowboys babble, but I still can't believe you just compared Riley Cooper to some of the individuals on your team. You and the Cowboys deserve each other.
Wow. I thought he was 32 last year... life's moving too fast I guess.
And holy crap, that's much worse.
Yeah and Sam Bradford is 27 and didn't play all but 2 games last season and 7 the season before....thats not something that exactly inspires confidence.
Wow. I thought he was 32 last year... life's moving too fast I guess.

I wouldn't expect someone who can't tell the difference between a woman beater and an ignorant racist to be able to tell the difference between a 27 and 35 year old QB.
-Someone better tell the rest of the 32 teams in the draft not to expect those guys to do shit for two years because who drafts a guy and not have expectations. Just dumb. -I dont deny the division got better, i deny the Eagles are that much better when their best receiver is an aging running back coming out of the backfield or a receiver who in 6 seasons has 2000 yards. And we cant EXPECT Jordan Matthews to continue to do what he did in year 1 in year 2 because you know that whole draft thing AND yall drafted a receiver this year that isnt going to be worth a damn till 2016 when draft picks should be expected to deliver so..... -I guess getting lucky in the second half of the season with injuries makes up for being blitzed with injury in the first half but i guess you didnt get that part. -No i didnt need the team, the media, or yourself to tell me that our oline is very good. I just watched them play but same thing i guess -"you dont address holes in the draft" LOL. If you say so! And i already addressed the fact that our dbs are not that great, reason why we drafted a CB we feel could come in and give us pt either at Db or safety but hey we should expect shit from him -Psycho's and D bags? Did you forget you got hate spewing Riley Cooper on your team? LMAO -And lets not forget this is also the team that gave Mike Vick a shot but hey thats non of my business -YOU SIGNED TIM TEBOW TO BACK UP SANCHEZ WHO BACKS UP BRADFFORD....How does this not scream fucking insanity to you? -Of course i can sit here and list all the things that could happen to make this season go badly for us and dwell on it but then that would just make me a Cubs fan
You've missed almost every point I've tried to make, and the majority of this is just your usual mindless Cowboys babble, but I still can't believe you just compared Riley Cooper to some of the individuals on your team. You and the Cowboys deserve each other.
You made no points sir. You tell me that if i expect my draft picks to be good or to contribute then i should rethink that because football 101 says not to expect anything good to happen for at least 2 years. You told me my o line was very good but not as good as i think but fail to bring any facts to the table aside from they're not athletic, oh wait, they're just athletic for their size, ...OK! And me reminding you that Riley Cooper, that country music loving racist, is on your team isn't me comparing them to anyone on my team, just a reminder that your team wasn't as Dbag free as you'd like to think.

Also, the injuries are completely different.
Oh so when he wasn't injured he was a top 5, hell even a top 10 QB?
How does losing Shady, Maclin, & and even Foles make yall better? I hope Riley Cooper can turn into a #2 WR because if not....it could turn ugly.
You better hope Bradford isnt done or get hurt because, lets face it, he gets hurt ALL of the time...or it could get ugly.
Equally as injury prone? How in the hell is that even comparable. Go ahead and check how many games Romo has missed since Bradford has been in the league and then check how many Bradford has missed....yeaaaah not even close...lol

Yes, you should rethink that, because most draft picks turn into nothing, and the one's who do, usually need time to develop on the bench.
Yes, you're O line is very good, but not all world like you and the media seem to think. I say this as a person who heard similar things about his own offensive line just 2 years ago. And yeah, for a zone blocking scheme, your guys struggle a bit in space.
I never said we were D-bag free, but we're well on our way. You're the person who decided to bring up Riley in defense of your team of convicts. Call it what you will.
I made plenty of points, you just don't understand them or agree with them I guess.

I'll let you figure that out on your own. Any information I provide you with will be pointless.

That's not what injury prone means.
That's injury severity. You're really making governmint look bad over here.

I said he was hurt all the time, you are the one who said our Qbs where equally as injury prone....Injury prone means you are prone to getting hurt regardless to the severity and the reason behind it...IN college he was HURT, in the NFL he has been hurt. What isn't injury prone about him? lol

I never said Bradford wasn't injury prone. Tony Romo gets hurt quite often as well. They just aren't season ending injuries, and he's displayed admirable toughness is playing the amount of games he has.
I'm not getting into this though. This is seriously like talking to a wall. I hope every scumbag on your team has a terrible season, and joins Riley Cooper in the land of jobless d-bags.

I look forward to watching Chip Kelly's mad scientist plan all fall apart right in front of you. Best of luck.
Another angle to consider when talking suspension of Brady and/or Belichick: if the NFL had acted swiftly on suspensions it would have impacted the Pat's last game. You know, the Super Bowl that they barely won. How fired up would Seahawks fans be to find out that they weren't suspended until after that game? (I understand that it's reasonable for it to take more than two weeks to conduct the investigation but I can see why 'Hawks fans would be pisssssed.)
Suspending Brady and/or Belichick at the last minute would of ruined the Super Bowl, all but guaranteeing a Seahawks victory and causing millions to tune out. The league wouldn't do such a thing.

I don't know that it would have impacted viewership. The novelty of the situation may have even improved ratings. I don't know.
I agree that the league would never have done it. My point was just that the Seahawks fans have a right to be a bit annoyed if the punishment turns out to be missed time. It's not realistic, but I could see where they would be coming from.
Wouldn't it be interesting if the team was punished by making them ineligible for post-season play like the NCAA does for college teams that get into trouble?
As a Saints fan, I don't wish what happened to our team on anyone. But at the same time, I sure wish I could feel a little like the decks are stacked evenly. I mean, players putting in incentive money to get other players to be more physical, while simultaneously not getting flagged for illegal hits, was not cool. I get it. We ignored the league's request to stop it. Gregg Williams is a piece of shit.
But where is the consistency? We lost an entire season and still have felt the effects from it years later with all our lost draft picks. I like the Pats and don't want the hammer dropped, but I can't help but have some feels
[FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a Bills fan and we play the Pats in Week Two. I feel like I am relatively neutral on this but maybe I'm not.]
I agree that the Saints punishment needs to be considered here, even if they were over-punished. I mean, Payton was suspended even though he had no knowledge, right?

I fully agree that fines are meaningless for Brady/Belichick/Kraft. I fully expect them to just be fined, though.
Personally, I think four games and a fine for Brady, a fine for Belichick and fine and loss of a first for the Pats is reasonable. It's not about the act of doctoring the balls, though they had been warned about it back in 2004. It's really about them not cooperating with the investigation, especially after vowing to do so and claiming that they would be vindicated.
(And for God's sake, please shut up Brady's agent. His attempts to spin this is just making Brady look worse.)
I'll be looking forward to this shitshow getting thrown out on a court appeal.
It won't get thrown out but it'll be reduced. I'll predict two games for Brady, lost 1st in 2016 and $750K fine for the team.
The problem with calling the investigation inconclusive is that both Brady and the Pats did not cooperate fully which means that it is impossible for the investigation to be conclusive, leading to things being more probable than not. Refusing to cooperate with an employer's investigation does not mean that you get the benefit of the doubt if the employer is unable to fully prove allegations.
Ironically, I bet that if Brady had just owned the situation from day one, said 'yeah, we prepared our balls for the game the way I like them, I think it's a common practice and didn't think that it was a big deal at all,' that the whole thing would be in the past. Brady would've been fined $25K and that would've been the end of it. But instead Kraft, Belichick and Brady went on the offensive, demanding apologies and denying everything and made it into a big deal. Failing to turn over Brady's phone and refusing to make their employees available for all requested interview sessions made it into an even bigger deal. Just my two cents...
