Peat was the most natural LT in this draft, and Anthony's my favorite ILB/MLB. If you guys go secondary in the second I'd say that's perfect.
My biggest beef is the Peat pick because he will not be an instant starter. We didn't have a glaring need at tackle. Guard would've made much more sense. If our picks were DeVante Parker and Anthony, I would be much, much more excited.
I expect him to be the starting RT in 1 year. I'm a big fan of grabbing potential pro-bowl OL, at any time, pretty much no matter what. Most linemen can play multiple positions, and injuries are usually of the serious variety do to how much weight gets thrown around in the trenches. Other than QB, there's nothing more important than OL.
I am not surprised that you said that, Sang, since he is from Clemson. However, after doing more research on the guy, I'm glad we got him. The team had him very highly rated and must've thought he would be gone by the 44th pick. I think he will work out well.
Believe it or not, I don't believe everyone that plays at Clemson is going to be an NFL star. CJ, Nuk, Sammy, Vic Beasley, Daquan Bowers, that's about it. Anthony is solid though, he'll play in the league for a while.
I like Anthony better than Beasley. Kids never going to be able to anchor against the run, which pretty much makes him a situation pass rusher.
I think the ___skins should have snatched up Leonard Williams when he fell into their lap, but I'm definitely fine with the Scherff pick. Not that they have a ton of talent anywhere, but OL was a greater need.

I still like Scherff despite this:
I was pretty excited to see you guys pass up on Williams, not gonna lie. You needed OL help far more than DL help, but Williams is much better player/prospect. Sherff is an Iowa OL, and they're coaching is excellent. This usually leads to Iowa OL being drafted high, and then under performing in NFL do to having already hit their ceiling. I think Scherff will be a good guard, but this seemed like a need pick to me, which almost always backfires, especially at the top of the draft.

Honestly, other than Williams, I would have rather had Scherff than anyone else available at that point. I'm not too upset. I do think it probably was a need pick, even though they claim Scherff was 3rd on their board behind only Fowler and Cooper.
I love the Cowboys picks. Byron Jones fills a huge need and is a beast and also has the world record broad jump. And then Randy Gregory slips to us in the 2nd round?? Unbelievable. The o lineman pick (Chaz Green from Florida) was kind of odd, thought we'd get a rb but i guess the guys we wanted were off the board already. Still never hurts to have depth at o line too. A- grade by me so far.
Yeah especially since the Titans need help at so many positions. They must really think highly of Mariota or really poorly of Mettenberger.
I feel like it's the latter. I mean the one plus Tennessee gets out of this pick is a QB competition in camp. HOWEVER, if Mariota doesn't start then everyone will perceive taking him at two to be a blunder. So in reality there's no competition, Mettenberger is relegated to backup and is waiting for Mariota to get hurt behind their bottom five offensive line. It's really a travesty so many teams build from QB out.
@black Dynamite: I just know what is reported. Though I had personally thrown out any chance the Eagles move up a few weeks ago. That's from Ian Rapoport and I tend to believe what he says. I also think Chip feels like the Eagles are a good QB away from being SB contenders. Getting a young one that you know fits your system is worth betting the house.
That stacked trade with PHI was a rumor. I don't think sticking with #2 pick and taking Mariota was done to create competition in camp. Titans needed a good QB prospect to carry them into the future, and Mettenberger (and everyone else) knows that his performance with the team has placed him squarely at #2. IMO, the Titans have done a great job in free agency pickups and in the draft. Are they going to be a playoff team next year? Probably not. But, I have hope that they are moving in that direction

My Bengals go with two O-lineman with their first two picks. Typical.
I'm not saying the offensive line wasn't a need, but we have bigger problems. If Geno doesn't bounce back from that tore ACL then our D-line is going to be pretty mediocre. Wished we would have pulled the trigger on Brown.

Agreed on most things you said here. The Cowboys have now managed to string together three straight solid drafts. It's a thing of beauty that I did not expect us to see in Jerry Jones' lifetime.
I am still a bit worried about Randy Gregory. The Cowboys have had a good track record with character issue players like Dez and Rolando McClain, but our defense is starting to resemble a suspect lineup. At some point this type of risk will backfire.
I think Chaz Green was a great pick. He will be expected to replace 31 year old Doug Free and the boys are comfortable identifying OL talent in the draft. There are still great RBs on the board. I had always considered Jay Ajayi to be a draft target, Karlos Williams and Trey Williams are interesting too.

I'm happy to officially hear that was fake. I know Chip is crazy, but that was edging on insanity. My point is less about the (non) competition and more about the fact that these bad teams draft QBs early without any system in place to protect them or a good enough defense to shield them as they learn the NFL game. It seems like more and more teams are going with the young QB / young WR combo. How many teams have won the SB with that blueprint?
It will be interesting to see what kind of punishment the NFL drops on Brady. A little suspension doesn't hurt since the early schedule isn't horrible (Pitt, Buffalo, Jax, Bye). In all honestly, it would be a great chance for Belichick to evaluate the QB talent on his roster. Any fine would be a huge joke to him and Gisele's $400M.
I just can't think of any punishment that would be both fair and effective. Also, I don't think most fans care. The Pats steamrolled the Colts in that AFC Championship. They could've won with frisbees.

I expect very little to be done, but they should be punished for this.
I don't care about the game against the Colts. I care about the casual attitude that organization and its players have towards cheating. They've also been caught in a lie, and have reportedly interfered with the investigation.
Roger might actually have to bring the hammer down on his bestest buddy.

Well said. That is a line of thinking I can get behind. My roommate and I were talking last night about how cheaters seem to prosper more often than not these days. It seems like the plan is cheat, reap the rewards, give back a small portion of the reward as punishment then try to act like you are sorry. (Not to get too far off topic, buuut) These Wall Street firms have turned cheating into a full on business model. How are they punished? A percentage of their ill gotten gains, no jail time.
Seems like the Pats respect that business model a great deal and they are still 4 time champions. Nobody can argue with those results.
As a Saints fan, I don't wish what happened to our team on anyone. But at the same time, I sure wish I could feel a little like the decks are stacked evenly. I mean, players putting in incentive money to get other players to be more physical, while simultaneously not getting flagged for illegal hits, was not cool. I get it. We ignored the league's request to stop it. Gregg Williams is a piece of shit.
But where is the consistency? We lost an entire season and still have felt the effects from it years later with all our lost draft picks. I like the Pats and don't want the hammer dropped, but I can't help but have some feels

Unfortunately, I think we all know what will happen.

Chaz Green will be on the o line in about 2-3 years and be a great swing tackle and the rbs available in the 3rd where guys with 4-5th round grades on them, so they stuck with their board which has worked out the last few years. Plus with La'el Collins added to the best Oline in the NFL we could get Emmitt out of retirement and have him run for 1000 yards. The Cowboys basically got 3 chances at a 1st round selection and all 3 are going to help contribute to another NFC East Championship. What makes the Collins pick up that much nicer is that if he didnt have all that drama unfold the week of the draft the Giants had him ahead of Scherff on their board (biased source) and likely would have selected him.

You Cowboys fans crack me up.
If you guys don't win a Super Bowl this year, things are gonna get real dark. And it's gonna be awesome.

[FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a Bills fan and we play the Pats in Week Two. I feel like I am relatively neutral on this but maybe I'm not.]
I agree that the Saints punishment needs to be considered here, even if they were over-punished. I mean, Payton was suspended even though he had no knowledge, right?
Another angle to consider when talking suspension of Brady and/or Belichick: if the NFL had acted swiftly on suspensions it would have impacted the Pat's last game. You know, the Super Bowl that they barely won. How fired up would Seahawks fans be to find out that they weren't suspended until after that game? (I understand that it's reasonable for it to take more than two weeks to conduct the investigation but I can see why 'Hawks fans would be pisssssed.)
I fully agree that fines are meaningless for Brady/Belichick/Kraft. I fully expect them to just be fined, though.
Personally, I think four games and a fine for Brady, a fine for Belichick and fine and loss of a first for the Pats is reasonable. It's not about the act of doctoring the balls, though they had been warned about it back in 2004. It's really about them not cooperating with the investigation, especially after vowing to do so and claiming that they would be vindicated.
(And for God's sake, please shut up Brady's agent. His attempts to spin this is just making Brady look worse.)

Cowboy fans typically are to fan crazy they don't like to see whats right in front of them, I didn't think i said anything that was THAT crazy. We just got done with 3 consecutive 8-8 seasons and went 12-4 last year with what most perceived was a worse team than they had the previous 3 years. I don't think most logical fans are calling for a Super Bowl but we are pretty excited about the future of this team and rightfully so. But hey, hate away.

I mean, I thought this was a bit much: "The Cowboys basically got 3 chances at a 1st round selection and all 3 are going to help contribute to another NFC East Championship. " Plus, expecting what you expect out of your draft class is a sure fire way to be disappointed. I loved Jones, but not as an immediate starter. Gregory is a nut case, and went from 260 to 235 in 2 years, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of the league in 3 years with a cocaine issue, and Collins is probably going to be played out of position. I think you guys drafted well, but there's always the possibility of it blowing up in your face. You guys had a huge risk/reward draft, and I wouldn't bank on it all going perfectly right away.
-The entire division improved -You guys still have a pretty limited roster in many areas, and I'm not exactly convinced your coaching staff knows what it's doing outside of Marinelli -Your offensive line isn't as amazing as the media likes to tell you it is. It's really good, but you guys lack athleticism, which translates to issues pass blocking, and the Eagles shut down your run game twice. Again it's great, but Emmitt Smith and D-Mac aren't doing what Murray did last year. -You guys got incredibly lucky with injuries in the second half of the season -Romo's back is toast. Those aren't injuries that just get better. He'll be having these issues for the rest of his life. -You don't really have anyone who can cover anyone with any consistency, and passing is important.
I mean, I think you guys are 10-12 win team on paper again, but your depth is just awful, so if anyone important goes down, you're in deep poop. I think the scenario of Romo getting hurt, and the defense coming back to earth is entirely plausible, and probably even likely.
And as for past this year...
-You have more psycho's on your team than the rest of the league combined. And the ringleader of the circus has wanted to be the highest paid player at his position for 2 years. -You're QB might have the worst, most back-loaded contract in the history of the NFL. Combining that with the fact that he's 33, and has a back that's falling apart, I'd say that's not too good. This is the type of thing that can set a team back 5-7 years. -You have 6 offensive linemen who all think they're the best at what they do. Only 1 of them is signed to legitimate contract. Good luck trying to keep that together when Dez wants 15 mil, and Romo is on the books for 25 (whether he can play anymore or not) -You still have significant work to do on the defensive side of the ball.
So like I said, trying to figure all of this out in 2 years has been tried before, and it never works. You guys have an extremely small window to make things happen here, and if it doesn't work, I think things could get ugly.

I see what you did there. We are still butthurt about that catch.
I think your first point is wrong though. There are actually two kinds of Cowboy fans. The overly optimistic ones you always hear hootin' and hollerin' about some shit. Those guys are truly the worst. Then there are fans, like myself, who over the past few years have come to realize that any shred of optimism toward the Cowboys all but guarantees a loss. I just about got into a fist fight with a friend of mine the day we played the Washington Racial Slurs on MNF last year. He would not shut up about great Dallas was and how bad Washington looked. Of course Colt McCoy beat us that night.

Last year was actually the first year in a while I heard tempered expectations from Cowboys fans and you guys had a legit Super Bowl team(I agree with your optimism theory). I only know the overly optimistic ones though since I don't live in Texas and, yes, they are the worst. There was a Cowboys fan at the bar for that playoff game and he was amazed that people gave him mountains of shit(I live in Milwaukee) before he eventually fell off of his bar stool and tried to start a fight. I did think it was crazy that Murray left a real contender for the Eagles because he said it gave him the best chance at a ring. Apparently Chip isn't the only delusional one in Philly these days.

I wish I had the time right now to go through all of this, because it is an impressively well thought out and mostly correct post for a team that isn't your own. I do want to say that 99% of Cowboys fans don't understand just how bad that contract is. Like it's actually difficult to wrap my head around any scenario that would allow us to keep him on the books next year.
I do think that you, along with everyone else in sports media, are overemphasizing the RB situation the Cowboys have in place. What kept Murray on the field all the time was his pass protection relative to Randle and Dunbar. We needed Murray on the field in 3rd downs, because the other guys would get Tony killed. Enter McFadden, you may be surprised to hear this, but he rated out as a top 5 RB in pass pro last year protecting a rookie with a middle of the road line. Now that we have our third down back it opens up Randle and Dunbar to be rotate RB duties behind a line that gave Murray a league best 1000 yards before contact.

Well you know what they say, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer . I may or may not have a football obsession that dates back to my elementary school years though.
It's not so much that I think the RB position is overly important in Dallas, it's a combination of a few things:
- As I've said, I think that O-line is slightly overrated. They came back to earth by the end of last year, and Murray's extremely underrated vision made them look fantastic at times when there really wasn't much there. - I think D-Mac is terrible, and might have some of the worst vision at the position. His knees also just don't give him that 2nd and 3rd gear that he needed to overcome this back in the day. - Murray has been extremely underrated for years. 2 years ago, when your line was rather terrible, he still averaged 5.5 yards per carry. He's been a beast since college.
And as for that Eagles jab up there, we'll just have to wait and see. We've each won once in the past 2 years and I'd say we improved more this offseason than you guys have, and injuries aside, we weren't too far apart last year. If Bradford stays healthy, I think we win the division this year. If he goes down, it'll be between you and the Giants, but I wouldn't sleep on them either. I think it's easy to forget that we won 10 games last year with a rash of offensive line injuries (ya know, that previous "best line in the NFL") and Mark Sanchez at QB with a bum shoulder.
