I saw krissyjo post this on Facebook, and thought I'd post it here as well. Apparently different people see different colors, which absolutely fascinates me. What two colors do you see in this dress?

Ooh thank you! I was thinking about sharing it here too. I'm glad you got it up!
The fact that people see blue and black is truly astounding to me. I've passed color blind tests before, so don't think it's that on my end. Could it have to do with different monitor types/settings? I wonder if people see it differently in real life?
I've looked at it on my phone and on my computer and I still see blue and black. Both of my kids said blue and black too, and I just asked them 'what do you see?'
I see it as blue and black, but I saw a thumbnail of it online that was white and gold. Then when I clicked on it, it was back to blue and black. I tried zooming out to shrink the image, but it stayed blue and black. Enlarging the thumbnail didn't change anything either.

I just showed the image to my coworker, and he said blue and black. I still see white and gold. We're looking at it on the same screen, so that's not the difference.
And we both swear we're not color blind. I'm even more confused now.

And both my coworker and I passed this color blind test. The top middle one is the least clear to both of us, but we can both make it out.
MY BRAIN!!!
I can see 12 in the first circle. After that it's absolutely just a complete mess of colours. This makes me sad.
The 12 is the most clear to both of us, followed by top right (42), bottom left (74), bottom right (6), and then the top middle (2).
But the top middle is definitely the most obscured. I have to really look at it to see the 2, and then part of it is probably my brain just filling the rest in based on the known shape of the number.
The brain and the human body are crazy things, that's for sure.
Being colour blind just makes me wonder what I'm missing. I'll die never knowing what a rainbow really looks like.
Ouch, never really though about that
During my Big Bend trip, I got caught in a deep thought loop about how every one perceives things differently, even though they're looking at the same thing. It's your perception of what you see that forms your world view. Maybe some people are just born to perceive things differently then others. But it's those differences that should be embraced and celebrated (obvious exceptions), because they can open up your mind to other possibilities that you had never even considered before.
Okay, enough of that. Spent enough time down that rabbit hole that night!

It was white and gold for me when I initially saw it, but when I switched tabs and came back, it was black and blue and has remained black and blue since then.
I think it has something to do with how well your rods and cones function, but I don't honestly know.
FWIW, I am going to go to sleep now and look at it again in the morning and see if that has an effect; I think once your eyes catch on to what's going on, you can't "undo" it very easily
I see white and gold, there's an illusion going on, mixed with how your brain interrupts color. I've also taken tests which show my brain interrupts color properly and have scored perfectly on color tests in the past.
Regardless this is cool and I love fucking science and weird brain stuff.
I haven't been on the internet for like 6 hours.... and this is what I come back to?? my snapchat is full of it. my facebook is full of it. and now here?! wtf is happening and where did this even start??
