Pennsylvania has some very odd laws when it comes to buying/selling beer. You can only purchase beer at restaurants, bars, licensed beer stores, or beer distributors. If you only want a six pack and not an entire case, your best option is actually walking into a bar and requesting a six pack from one of the bartenders. Very strange.
I found this out when I went through Pennsylvania after Lock'n Festival. Stopped at a random hotel off the interstate. I'm used to getting beer at Wal-Mart or gas station and there wasn't any to my surprise. Luckily we found a bar that had carry out, just an odd experience.
To be fair to Pennsylvania I'm from Indiana and we still don't allow alcohol sales on Sunday.

Connecticut didn't either until about two years ago.
You can't buy beer at Walmart/Target or gas stations either. Some, but not all, grocery stores sell it. And it's only available between 8 am and 9 pm.

don't get me started on minnesota's idiotic alcohol laws.
you can only buy booze (beer, wine, and liquor) at liquor stores, no alcohol sales on sundays, and the only beer you can buy at the grocery store is 3-2 beer. I've had to drive to wisconsin on multiple occasions to get alcohol on a sunday.
You can't buy liquor on a Sunday here, but you can get beer/wine. Our Walmart also sells some vodkas and "light" liquors. When I took 1karen1 to get her vodka before Summerdance she was amazed that we could get it at Walmart. Apparently you can't do that in New York? I guess it was also substantially cheaper here too. A few Krogers here have full selection liquor stores inside them too, but they're kinda like their own little section of the store and you have to pay inside that section.
This is true. No liquor at the Walmarts. And it was almost half as much as it would be at my local booze shop.
NY(Buffalo) isn't all bad. Last call is at 4am and you can start buying beer at the gas stations at 8am. Liquor stores are open on Sunday. And the Sunoco's have craft beer on tap.
I could care less about fancy beer. Beer snobbery makes me laugh and laugh and laugh....but I like the 8%.
All these things make me glad I live here in Nola. Even if I'm not really a big drinker. Plus...drive-thru daiquiri shops and liquor stores. Oh and no open container laws. Get a go cup and go.

Coming from an alcohol enthusiast....when I was visiting my sister in Puerto Rico was when I decided I needed to live in a place where drinking while driving is a completely acceptable activity.

Ha! It's not "acceptable" here but people do it. I really think I need to live in Colorado. They have my leisure activity.
The only place other than bars and restaurants to buy ANY alcohol in Massachusetts is a liquor store/package store (New England term). No grocery stores/pharmacies/ gas stations, and that includes beer. I believe there's a handful of exceptions due to special town specific permits.
Drink specials/discounts/happy hour is also illegal.

open container has always been the dumbest law in my mind. why the fuck can't I drink a beer while going on a nice little jaunt around the block?!

Yeah...I need to be in Puerto Rico. For many more reasons than driving down a dirt road with a Medalla in the cup holder. Hell...I'd even switch to Newports if it meant living on the beach for the rest of my days.

I have lots of family in Puerto Rico. I should really go visit...

Lame.
BUT! we have decriminalized cannabis, so alcohol is really just an afterthought.
Meh...I feel like that's going to be happening everywhere(as it should) at rapid pace.
And I much prefer the Hemmingway method to creativity whereas when I'm stoned all I want to do is make a pillow fort and watch Always Sunny.
I drink to the point of drunk maybe 4 times a year. Just doesn't do much for me.
I don't even drink to the point of drunk, just to a buzz. I apparently am, sorta, kinda, little bit of a control freak, and I really don't like being drunk. Plus, I was a bartender, in New Orleans, for like 16 yrs... either you become a ragin alcoholic or you are sober mcsober. I am a big ole weed head though. I seriously might have a problem.

I believe with grocery stores, only three locations are allowed to sell alcohol under the same ownership. I know Market Basket doesn't sell beer in Mass., never seen it at Stop n' Shop or Big Y either. Park n' Shop, with only three stores, has beer and wine at all three. And I've only seen two Price Choppers (Webster and Cambridge St. Worcester) sell it.
Another dumb Mass. alcohol law: It's apparently illegal to buy alcohol from a package store in Worcester, if you don't have Massachusetts ID or a passport. Three years ago, I got denied at a packie (even though I was 26) because I have a Connecticut drivers license.

I don't think it's just Worcester. Someone warned me about that year's ago when going up for a show or something in college- luckily I have always had a passport!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Hmmmm. Maybe there's a handful of towns which have that rule.
Then again, there's a few other packies in Worcester I've bought alcohol and had no problems.

Was there for one of them once upon a time. Not Pretty.
RI is like Mass.. no known exceptions - all alcohol including beer and wine must be purchased at the 'packy' (package store) other than bar/restaurant. They did lift the Sunday 'Blue law' finally so at least that's not an issue anymore. Blew my mind the first time i bought beer at a gas station in NH at 9 in the morning on a Sunday on the way to a 5yr olds bd party. (It wasn't the 5 yr old that caused the need for beer that early. )
