"Sunday Morning" off the Velvet Underground's 1st LP. It's just so beautiful to me how Reed can write about such dark subject matter on that record but open with such an optimistic and bright track. Genius.

How has this thread gone 3 pages with nary a mention of Prince? "Let's Go Crazy" kicks off the best album of the 80s/last 30 years. It has to be in the conversation.
Though, it's not my personal favorite from Prince. Dirty Mind is the perfect funky beginning to the album by the same name that really crystallized the Prince/Minneapolis sound. Eminently danceable.
The first track off of Here's Little Richard is Tutti Fruitti, which is probably his most recognizable song and is a great piano rocker with somewhat unintelligible lyrics.
"You Are the Sunshine of My Life"/Talking Book/Stevie Wonder another great opener.

Some of my favorites that I didn't see mentioned...
Dry the Rain - The Beta Band (The 3 E.P.s) Planet Telex - Radiohead (The Bends) I Have Seen - Zero 7 (Simple Things) Protection - Massive Attack (Protection) 2+2=5 - Radiohead (Hail to the Thief) Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve (Urban Hymns) Liquid Swords - GZA (Liquid Swords) So What - Miles Davis (Kind of Blue) Chameleon - Herbie Hancock (Head Hunters) Somewhat Damaged - NIN (The Fragile) Hallogallo - Neu! (Neu!) One Of These Days - Pink Floyd (Meddle)
Shit, there are a lot when you start thinking about it.
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit David Bowie - Five Years Rage Against The Machine - Bombtrack T-Rex - Mambo Sun Beck - Loser Beastie Boys - Sure Shot Led Zeppelin - Black Dog The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice Damned - Neat Neat Neat Death From Above 1979 - Turn It Out Rush - Tom Sawyer
I have to second RATM - Bombtrack. That track just smacked you in the face immediately. Set the tone for their whole sound, and is still one of my favorite tracks of theirs to this day.
Edit: And I'll throw out an obvious personal favorite of my own that I've discussed before:

I really hope you're serious about this. So effing good!
I'm always, mostly serious, about half of the things I say on here. But in this instance, i really love this song. I was just singing it, minutes ago, to my dog, lol.
