I don't believe Dawes. I'm betting there's some tomfoolery afoot. I'm expecting them to be announced tomorrow.
I could see them hosting a late night and maybe showing up at the fest but not being a band scheduled on any of the days. New Basement Tapes (if that gets put together) would be good if they are around.
Agreed! With the after show idea. But the basement tapes has fallen apart
I had an interview with a booking agency last week and we were discussing Newport and they mentioned Sufjan would be there. I wasn't sure if it was a prediction or actual knowledge, but it's the reason I asked about whether or not he'd be a headliner. Glad to see him on the lineup. I love his new album but for some reason have never taken the time to dig into his discography. Recommendations on where to start?

Illinois is a classic, but I'm partial to Seven Swans myself - and given that he's doing the folk thing again, I expect we're more likely to get songs from that, rather than the grand productions.
A little surprised he's not headliner-level. I wonder if it has to do with him doing something stripped down. Even solo acoustic perhaps?

He's not a headliner at Eaux Claire is he? I mean, the bands putting the festival on are the headliners, but that's kind of like it is in this situation too.

They could also back Blake Mills again.
Kind of weird that they didn't answer the question that way though ("No, but we'll be behind the scenes." "Not playing unfortunately but hanging out." Etc)
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Sufjan announced and then going to go see Neutral Milk tonight... Today is wonderful!
I'm seeing NMH tonight too!
Also, super excited about Sufjan. I believe he's doing his whole new album live, with a couple other fan-favs towards the end. Not sure how this will differ in a festival setting though.
As a side not to the question that I asked Dawes. I only asked if "they" were playing the festival. I didn't ask if "middle brother" was playing....
I thought I saw several other questions about Middle Brother in the Q&A, and Taylor made no indication that there was anything on the horizon because they were all pursuing their own projects.
James Bay new show added at the Hammerstein Ballroom NY on 7/23 available on 7/24 and 7/25
Gah. The downside of having all these artists in the area around NFF, is that NFF is also going on. I'll already be in RI or I would've tried to make the Hammerstein show. Also, he's big enough for the Hammerstein?

Yeah he does seem a little small. I imagine it'll be like First Aid Kit's show there in October which wasn't quite full, but they're bigger than he is, right? I don't listen to much radio so maybe he's getting some of the same attention that Hozier got

He is selling all of his shows out, I bet that he could sell it out. He sold out 4 shows at the O2 Glasgow in the UK. Granted that is his home.
Brand new Spirit Family Reunion single and album out today. Newport seems to love these guys. They were there last year as guests if I'm not mistaken (so were Joe Pug and Langhorne Slim who are both already on this year's lineup)
