Whether or not we get Dylan I've decided I really want Emmylou Harris to pre-headline Sunday. She's the last FloydFest act I'm really hoping we get. Especially because the idea of her being there while First Aid Kit sing "Emmylou" is pretty awesome
Additionally she is playing a free show in Boston on Folk Saturday, so I'm also pulling for her as well
And she is playing floydfest on Sunday, so she won't be there for FAK
Am I the only one that actually hopes Dylan doesn't get added as a headliner?
I understand the historical connection to NFF, but I can't think of a single person I know who has said they actually enjoyed a concert of his in the past few years. Some even going as far as walking out of the show because it was so unbearable. While it'd be neat to be able to say I was present for him at the anniversary, it isn't much more than a novelty to me (for lack of a better term) and would much rather see some who is still able to sing or at least be decipherable.

I've seen Dylan live around five times. The last time was in a theatre a couple of years ago and it was the best his voice has sounded and the most energetic I've seen him. He was dancing around the stage and they add some cool effects to the songs and I like hearing how the older stuff sounds once it's been rearranged. Tempest had just came out and they didn't do a single song from that. The time before that I saw him at a minor league baseball park and while his voice was not good that time the band kept me dancing in that field for the entire show. I have no plans on buying tickets to see him soon, but I'd definitely not be opposed to catching the show again somewhere.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
Wait... in New Haven the day after? I might have to do that. I did THATH in New Haven the day after a few years ago and it wasn't too bad since NFF isn't super rough on the body...
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
It looks like Lady Lamb the Beekeeper is now a possibility for Newport...
It's actually just "Lady Lamb" now but either way excellent news. I was going to say earlier that I think of Laura Marling, Courtney Barnett, Angel Olsen, and Lady Lamb as this group of fantastic alt-rock/folk women and was hoping that Newport would get them all

As long as it's ok with work, I might catch the Decembrists/Lady Lamb show in Vermont as well.

I'm with ya brother.
Exactly, he's terrible. I saw him at the Americanarama in Chicago only because MMJ and Wilco opened for him. I didn't even know what he was singing. Halfway through Watchtower is when I finally figured that one out. He sounded like he gargled glass before the show. It was awful. He never even addressed the crowd.

I've heard good and bad things about live Dylan shows. I've only experienced the bad. I'd prefer a different headliner. I know he's old and legendary but when I've seen him it was like watching a little old man struggle to get out words and barely move on stage. We thought at one point it was a mannequin behind some keyboard (that didn't seem to be plugged in).
I'd love to see a good current Dylan show but I'd prefer other names at the top.

Haha, like the gorilla at Show Biz pizza. Exactly how I felt. He kept doing this weird pelvis thrust towards his key board which alost seemed robotic, the whole show was strange.
The guy is 73 years old! Would you guys prefer that he do a few backflips and a few sprints?
Paul McCartney is 72, Mick Jagger and Roger Waters are 71. It's very possible to have high energy on stage at that age. While their music does provide more cause for energy, age is no excuse for Dylan. He's just not an exciting person

I saw Dylan when he toured with MMJ and Wilco. I was suuper disappointed with his set. That being said, I do kiiind of hope he plays this year just for the historical significance. Maybe he can "go acoustic" this time around.
On a side note, my name is Dylan. It's always been weird reading comments like "age is no excuse for Dylan", "Am I the only one that actually hopes Dylan doesn't get added","Whether or not we get Dylan" & "I think the thing with Dylan is to know what to expect." I can confirm. I will be there.
I would also pay top dollar to see RTJ at Newport!

I would just like to be able to understand what he's singing, thats all. No back flips needed. He can even sit down for all i care, i think he's the greatest song writer of all time, but I want to hear Bob Dylan, not a shell of Bob Dylan.
I think Dylan does all right for what his body/voice allows him to do. And his new albums are surprisingly good.
But he was known for singing and strumming the guitar, and he can't do either any more, so I don't really need to see him again. At this point it's more about his band and the songs he wrote. (I've seen him twice in the last 6-10 years. Once was great. Once was bad.)
