Surprised no one has been hype about the new Rodrigo y Gabriela. It's a little bit different from their previous works, but it's just so chill and works especially well whenever I get agitated or anxious about something.

Didn't even know they had a new album, going to listen to that tomorrow.

Seems like most of Inforoo doesn't know. It's called 9 Dead Alive. It's greatness.
I am going to start putting an asterisk by my final Top Albums list each year stating it might change. I feel like a hypocrite because I didn't like Jay-Z's Magna Carta album last year when I listened to it. This year, I would say it's my most played album. After a few listens, the album is a masterpiece in my opinion. Some of the best work he's done in his career. My least favorite (track #1) has even grown on me.
In summary, I would like to revise my list of last year to include Jay. It's my top album of 2014 that was released in 2013...

These are my favorite reissues right now. I doubt anything will knock that Spiderland from the top slot. The Unwound reissue project is just crazy. I want more.
Slint | Spiderland [Box Set] The Unicorns | Who Will Cut Our Hair When We Are Gone? Unwound | Rat Conspiracy [Box Set] Unwound | No Energy The Velvet Underground | White Light/White Heat Jackson C. Frank | Jackson C. Frank Bikini Kill | Yeah Yeah Yeah Uncle Tupelo | No Depression Songs:Ohia | Journey On: Collected Singles Lavender Country | Lavender Country
Plenty of great albums, more to come, more to learn about. For now, in alphabetical order:
Bear Hands - Distraction Beck - Morning Phase Broken Bells - After The Disco Chromeo - White Women Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots De La Soul - Smell The DA.I.S.Y. Jungle - Jungle Mø - No Mythologies To Follow Parquet Courts - Sunbathing Animal PHOX - PHOX Röyksopp & Robyn - Do It Again Spoon - They Want My Soul St. Paul & The Broken Bones - Half The City Sylvan Esso - Sylvan Esso Tame Impala - Live Versions Tomas Barfod - Love Me Tycho - Awake
This year has been a dud. Like if I were to make a top-50 composed of albums from 2013 and 2014, I doubt more than 10-12 records from this year would make it at this point.

Flying Lotus and Run the Jewels in October will be awesome. I need new Kanye, Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar to cap my year. But I'm skeptical about at least two of those being released soon.
I guess my top 15 so far is:
(Alphabetically) Against Me - Transgender Dysphoria Blues Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots FKA Twigs - LP1 Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Pinata Girl Talk & Freeway - Broken Ankles Jack White - Lazaretto Jenny Lewis - The Voyager Mac DeMarco - Salad Days Spoon - They Want My Soul St. Vincent - St. Vincent Sun Kil Moon - Benji Swans - To Be Kind Todd Terje - It's Album Time Ty Segall - Manipulator The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream
Speaking as someone who thought they listened to a lot of music, the amount of new stuff some of you listen to is ridiculous. I'm looking at you .
Even if you don't like it, you have to at least acknowledge how good of tracks Heavenly Father and Solioquy are.
But that album does have it's ups and it's downs. Like RIP Kevin Miller, that song is awful
This sounds suspiciously like what you said 8 months ago when you were attempting to defend Wolf as one of your top-15 albums of the year.
But we should really move this talk to a more general 2014 thread, I suppose.
I like Wolf more than I like Civilia Demo. I'm not arguing the album is great, I think it's like a solid 7/10. I'm just saying I don't think it's fair to completely dismiss the album as all garbage when it has tracks like those.
Was that only 8 months ago? Sheesh seems like that was an eternity ago. And if you'll remember correctly, I had only listened to about 25 albums when I made that first list

Wait, you would rate Cilvia Demo as a 7 out of 10, and you think Wolf is BETTER than that?

On topic, things I've liked this year, in order of how quickly they come to mind:
Warpaint - Warpaint Bear In Heaven - Time Is Over One Day Old Mastodon - Once More 'Round the Sun Behemoth - the Satanist How To Dress Well - What Is This Heart? Caribou - Our Love Jungle - Jungle Basement Jaxx - Junto DJ Dodger Stadium - Friend of Mine Spoon - They Want My Soul Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots Statik Selektah - #Whatgoesaround Thou - Heathen Mogwai - Rave Tapes Beck - Morning Phase New Pornographers - Brill Bruisers The Antlers - Familiars S. Carey - Range of Light the Hotelier - Home, Like Noplace Is There Duck Sauce - Quack The Flashbulb - Nothing is Real
There's also stuff I didn't include because I'm not counting singles releases or EPs. I've really enjoyed the following non-album stuff:
Robyn & Royksopp - Do It Again Jamie xx - Girl/Sleep Sound/All Under One Roof Raving Percussions - Ascii Boy/Blatant Water Cannon/KHLKI/Sext Darkside - What They Say/Gone Too Soon
How on Earth do you guys find the time to listen to all these albums? I fee like it's been a down year for the kind of musics I enjoy, but I haven't listened to most of the bands on your lists. I'd say my favorite so far is Jungle.

There's always stuff I find late. I didn't give Darkside or Chance the Rapper a proper listen until 2014 and they definitely would have made my favorites list if I had.

I guess it hasn't dawned on you that we are all a bunch of obsessive nerds, huh?

Haha, I guess not. What are your preffered methods of hearing new music? I buy albums and cds so it would be crazy expensive to try to keep up with you guys, although I do catch NPR streams and full albums on youtube from time to time. I also like listening to music in the car in order to figure out how much I like it. I tend to like things more when I listen to then inside a building, but I'm a lot more choosy in the car.
And I agree with you , I find a lot of great stuff on here after you guys post about it. For instance, I discovered Jungle on here and now I've turned nearly everyone I know on to it and they all love it, except for Phyre Fest somehow. C'mon Phi, listen to Busy Earnin just one more time .
