I have been avoiding it. I think this is a week where your confidence points are going to be the biggest factor because so many of these games could easily go either way.
My office right now is a perfect example of a conditioned response. They have all started to accept that Tennessee sucks and have readjusted their expectations to meet that. Given the recruiting successes and beginnings of a better record at Tennessee, Butch Jones appears to be moving the program back towards success. This challenges their notion that everything is going to suck forever therefore all I have heard over the last couple of days is that Michigan is going to hire Butch Jones away from us. It's not the idea is completely ludicrous (emphasis on completely), but they are talking about it like the contract is already signed. I can't deal with these people.
Butch Jones is gonna be great. I'm excited to have him in Ann Arbor.
There aren't too many slam dunk choices that are definitely available for Michigan. Obviously both Harbaughs would be welcomed with open arms if they'd take the step down but that doesn't seem to be the case now, and Les Miles isn't an option as long as Dave Brandon has a job. I just hope they don't reach too far for an unproven coach, or *gulp* a coordinator.

I feel like Michigan is in a similar spot to Tennessee. A storied program in a major conference that is currently fucking terrible. I know the fanbase here went nuts after Dooley got fired with their expectations going through the roof as to who his replacement would be (Gruden's our only savior!), and many got pissed when they hired Jones because he wasn't a big name. Everyone loves him now though. Same thing with Kevin Sumlin at A&M. Whoever they end up hiring, you got to give them time to see how they do things. Re: the Harbaughs, Jim is the more feasible pipe dream just because of the reported rocky relationship between him and the 49ers. I don't see why John would even consider it.

Apparently the real barrier to Les Miles is Lloyd Carr, which still isn't a good sign. It seems like it should be a pretty attractive gig to someone, Michigan's recruiting classes have all been pretty solid under Earl the Dinosaur. With a year or two of competent coaching they could be right back in the mix.
I always think of this whenever a celebrity is mentioned as being a fan of a team. Or the countless times Snoop Dogg was on the USC sideline back in the Carroll era.
Good Game, but I am putting that win on the Ducks wearing uniforms that have no similarity to their school colors.
Incorrect. Deadspin says it is because of the taunting penalty in the fourth quarter. It's really one of the worst articles I have ever read on there.
Eh, I mean that taunting penalty was pretty fucking bullshit, and turned what should have been a field goal attempt into a renewed chance at the end zone from the 8 yard line. Obviously, Oregon still would have needed to go down the field and score, but that's a pretty terrible call to make and it's pretty easy to argue it had a significant impact on the game.
Also, why does a school with the Wildcat as it's logo use the slogan "bear down?"

Maybe so but it has been a point of emphasis for the Pac-12, something the coaches and players have known since May. Did you see the taunting penalty on an Arizona defender where he basically just stood up in the general direction of the Oregon player in the first half? If you want to get into officiating let's start analyzing some of the PI calls (or lack of calls) throughout the game.
At the end of the day the team that played better won, even though it seems like all anyone will talk about is the taunting penalty. Why not talk about Oregon's inability to stop our running attack on the first tackle or our ability to pressure Mariota all game? Those two things affected the outcome a lot more than the officiating.
I do have to say I am very worried about USC next week, we are quite good at the letdown game after a big win.
As I said weeks ago College Gameday had targeted Arizona for that week, I would assume thats all but guaranteed now. If USC beats ASU tomorrow it will be a top 15 matchup. It would make for a very exciting week.

Significant impact is one thing. Of course, it had that, but the writer blew it out of proportion. Arizona pulled off an upset of the #2 team in the country for the second year in a row. Give the team some credit for being in a position to where they were in the driver's seat that late in the game against many people's pick to win the NC and the de facto Heisman frontrunner.
Really, the very brief article starts with the clickbait title of "#2 Oregon Knocked Off By Pac-12 Officials, Also Arizona" and spends the remainder of it walking back the statement, so I may just be more annoyed with the structure of the article because that kind of stuff is really starting to wear on me.
In a stunning turn of events, the comments section paid off for once. Somebody actually did research and quoted from the rule book. "SECTION 2. Unsportsmanlike Conduct Fouls ... ARTICLE 1 ... a. Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include: ... (h) Going into the stands to interact with spectators, or bowing at the waist after a good play." It's still a shitty call, but it does have basis in the book.

Bacon brings up the other aspect of complaining about penalties. Most every game has shitty calls on both sides of the ball. It's just the way things are.
