What bothers me most about Leo is that he wasn't even nominated for Inception a few years ago, which has basically earned a place among classics of our generation. It's one of those "must see" performances. This year there were impossible odds. What's Eating Gilbert Grape was his best shot and he was going up against movies like Schindler's List.
I know the Oscars don't matter, but did anyone else feel like The Act of Killing was totally snubbed? That film was effin' stunning.
It was, but 20 Feet From Stardom was also.
Fair point, they're both beautifully made. But I think TAOK is a more important/impactful film--I suspect that the uncomfortable subject matter had something to do with its loss. At least the 'Skarz gave Oppenheimer's work some well-deserved attention.
I damn near choked on my drink when they announced Best Picture - umm, turns out my brother's BFF of 20+ years produced 12 Years as a Slave and I had no idea? Hmm, I guess I will have to finally get around to seeing that one now.
I think Leo's worked with Scorsese so much that the Oscar elusiveness is rubbing off on him.
