Hey guys,
I've been tasked with coming up with a playlist of "real music" for my 5-year-old nephew. Many of you have done this before, what do you all recommend other than just giving him a Beatles CD and calling it a day?
My favorite songs when I was 5 were "Mony Mony," "We Didn't Start the Fire," and "Dangerzone."
My list right now has stuff like Pharrell, Haim, "Hey Ya," and "Praise You." Any more ideas?

I may be late, but this is all me. Worked at a toy store for a minute.
Okee Dokee Brothers is a real 'kid' band.
If you want, try Radio Wonderground. Streaming from Minnesota Public Radio. It's a kid friendly radio station via web.
Edit: It's easy for adults to listen as well. 89.3 The Current furlyf

"When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest.” -Thoreau
I have fond memories of my mom singing Bob Marley and the Isley Brothers in the kitchen whilst making dinner.... but that's probably not what you're looking for.
also, if we're talking the Dead, Ripple. And basically anything off American Beauty.
Also, I had my little brother singing Billy Talent and Blink 182 when he was like 7. He liked singing along to the faster songs, made him feel proud of himself that he knew all the words. I don't know if it's appropriate for a 5 year old, but he liked it.
(Yes, I liked Billy Talent at one point. Leave me alone.)

Feist is going on here .... I should probably just put everything that's been in a Apple commercial on it
my 2 year old loves feist. she can't really speak, but she can sing 1234.
as a 5 year old, my detroit-born parents inundated me with motown. pretty much everything is top notch musicianship, plus its dance-able as all get out.
