1. Freddie Gibbs + Madlib - Piñata 2. Perfect Pussy - Say Yes to Love 3. The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream 4. The Men - Tomorrow's Hits 5. Nothing - Guilty of Everything 6. Real Estate - Atlas 7. Liars - Mess 8. Tokyo Police Club - Forcefield
ranking unclear: Future Islands - Singles, Black Lips - Under the Rainbow, YG - My Krazy Life
this is of course subject to change by the time ALBUM OF THE YEAR comes around. >_>
also, for the sake of interesting trivia: Artists so far have had both albums and tracks from that album get BNMed by Pitchfork - Sun Kil Moon, Angel Olsen, St. Vincent, The War on Drugs, Real Estate, Perfect Pussy and Cloud Nothings.
Perfect Pussy and St. Vincent are the only ones with two Best New Tracks.
(I'll try to update this at the end of each month)
For me, part of the toughness is that a lot of the really good albums are not what you might call "easy" to get into. The stuff with primo pop chops - G I R L and Forcefield in particular - doesn't really hold up to any intense scrutiny.
Even Piñata is a little overwhelming at first blush, but it hits you more and more with each listen, and I think is the biggest grower of anything that came out in March.

Yea, I definitely agree with this. I've listened to most of the albums in contention for this month, but don't really feel comfortable ranking quite a few of them yet.
Going with this one, I really do wish I had a couple more weeks to spend with these albums before making a pick though. It will definitely be interesting how my year-end list evolves.

Hot Dreams by Timber Timbre is sounding really good to me this month. I have listened to it at least 10 times in the past few weeks and it still sounds refreshing. It totally puts me into a weird David Lynch movie set in a desert town.
This was really tough, great month (hardest month since we started doing this, possibly) which makes it super lulzy that nothing grabbed Sang. It was between Singles and Piñata for me. Ughhhhh don't hate me Freddie....
Seeing them in a week swayed me, it was that close.

I was all set to vote for Cloud Nothings, then I found out it was coming out in Apr. The Men probably would be next, but I only got to listen to it once. That's the real problem, I haven't had time to listen to anything more than once. But nothing really grabbed me enough on one listen.
