I might be crazy here, but is anyone else not in love with Ghettoville the same way they were with R.I.P. or Splazsh this far into them? It was around the second or third listen of those albums that I really started to love them, but it isn't clicking with Ghettoville for some reason. Warpaint is far and away in first for me so far, but I'm about to give the Damien Jurado and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra a listen.
I was worried this was going to be a weak month. here's where I've traveled so far. Actress - Ghettoville Alcest - Shelter Andy Stott - Luxury Problems East India Youth - Total Strife Forever James Vincent McMorrow - Post Tropical Mogwai - Rave Tapes Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks - Wig Out at Jagbags Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band - Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything Warpaint - Warpaint Young the Giant - Mind Over Mater (I enjoyed this much more than i expected to on the first listen through)
Gonna be a tough one to call. Warpaint, James Vincent McMorrow and East India Youth have gotten the most attention so far.
I'm not voting until the end of the month, but I highly doubt anything can top Indian.
I need to spend more time with that album.
Better have your big boy pants on. I think my brain permanently shifted where it sits inside my skull after my first listen. I mean that in a good way.

Excellent January list. That Andy Stott is 2012 though.

Is it Doom metal? I will give it a shot tonight, but if it's doom, I'm probably not going to like it.

I'm not as good at classifying metal bands as some others here, but I'd call it a faster, more intense doom/sludge metal combination. GL or PD can probably define it better than I can.

I'm not either. I pretty much classify all of the mid-tempo, riffy, sludgy stuff as Doom. No other type of music gives me such a large swing in satisfaction. I go from "hell yeah!", devil horns, and air guitars to "I can't listen to another second of this" in about 3 songs.

The sludge/doom is just a jumping off point for some fucked up riffing. You like The Body, so you will probably like Indian.
This is my favorite thread on the internet. I haven't participated because I don't digest enough music on time but I have found so much great music from lurking here. Very excited to see it back.

Right now that James Vincent McMorrow is hitting all the right spots. I really like Warpaint, Mogwai, Actress thus far as well, though I need to spend a lot more time with a lot of records.
Agreed. I still have a couple more albums to get to, but Post Tropical is the front-runner.
Damien Jurado - Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son (1) (mr.moss) Warpaint - Warpaint (1) (Sang)
Remember that voting closes Feb 4th.
I've heard 9 albums from this month so far and none come close, so I went ahead and voted. this Indian album is pretty serious though, first listen. and now Alcest is my #2.

Throwing my hat in the ring for James Vincent McMorrow -Post Tropical. That Damien Jurado album made a strong push, but the soundscapes on Post Tropical are just so pleasant.
