First off, FloydFest is a great festival--great music, food, vendors, arts (healing, performing, visual, etc) and an exceptional crowd vibe! This year there was an Act of Mother Nature (mucho rain in the Saturday AM) heaped upon Floyd.
The Alpha Quagmire: Yes, that's Alpha meant as in position #1 plus referring to the Alpha lot (GA parking for most of the festival goers).
Saturday night my wife & I decided to leave after hearing Bombino (woot woot!!!) so we broke camp and caught the shuttle bus to the Alpha/Delta offload (we had arrived on Thursday). With backpacks, a cooler, and two camp chairs, we made our way from the Delta drop off to the Alpha lot and somehow slid and slogged our way across the lot and then somehow found our car in the dark... probably and hour and a half after we had originally boarded the bus. We then somehow slid, slogged, and spun our way to the exit (the Alpha entrance gate when going in) and finally got our four wheels on some terra firma! Thing is, we were the ONLY car doing this at that particular time! It was about then that I gave a sigh of relief, popped the top on a Red Bull, and headed for North Georgia.
But after our solo effort and on the drive back, this thought kept replaying in my mind: How in the world were people going to escape the "Alpha Quagmire" when they came there en masse and carrying more baggage than us? One just wasn't going to pull a loaded Radio Flyer across the Great Alpha Suck and a bunch of cars just weren't going to leave that mud pit at the same time!
It's now a bit after 12PM on Sunday and I suspect this harrowing exodus is happening as I type this. So, stories my friends....

It's good to see you made it out okay. We headed out to Alpha first thing this AM with our stuff. (we planned to drop it off and just return back to the fest). After seeing how bad the mud was, we decided to try and get the car out and move it to the day parking which was at the high school. Worked perfectly - but we definitely felt bad for everyone still in the Alpha/Delta lot lines at 7:30pm.
Great Fest, Great Location, People were awesome and laid back, Music was fantastic -- logistics and contingency were below par for that many people and the fact it's their 12th yr. Also, took 7 hrs from parking to camp site for us on Thursday (way before the rain came)
Bought a Sunday only ticket right after Roo. Wasn't a fan of the structure of the festival, for the people not camping at least. Having to wait a half hour to get on the bus, then ride on a bus for 20 minutes to get to the festival, then had to wait 40 minutes to get back on the bus, and another 20 minute ride back to the jeep. Has to be a better way.
That being said, being born and raised in the mountains and going to college so close to Floyd makes the festival special. It's in a beautiful setting, with a great crowd. Trampled by Turtles and Old Crow Medicine Show were both great today.
Also heard that Floydfest would be paying for all towing that is needed to leave the fest, as long as you had a parking pass.
